I ate at the original location 40+ years ago, before moving to the west side. The pizza is pretty much as I remember - very good. We added pepperoni and onion. Good pepperoni! The onions were very finely chopped and added zero texture and taste - would not order onions again. The pizza arrived very well done. Not overcooked, but damn close. The guy taking our order was knowledgeable and patient as I struggled to find my military ID. The dining room is spacious and clean. The only problem ... napkins. The dining room dispenser was empty. The front counter dispenser was almost empty and the few napkins remaining were loaded backwards, requiring me to dig them out in a clump larger than I needed. It was never corrected and neither was refilled while we ate. The WiFi is free and fast and the network password is prominently posted. IIRC: bestpizza Will I return? Yabbut, my wife prefers Jets. I prefer GL. And I am looking forward to trying their Reuben. It looks promising. read more

I was excited to see a Green Lantern Pizza moving into my neighborhood. I've driven past it several times during construction and happily anticipated its opening. Although I had never had a Green Lantern's slice before, I knew its reputation and was excited to expand my pizza education. However, I never made it out to the closest locations, Berkley or Royal Oak as they were still too far to drive for pizza. After a long week, I decided to reward myself with pizza. However, everyone else seemed to have the same idea since the online order system was temporarily shut down. Peak hours, I should have realized. Sigh. The next day, before the dinner rush, I ordered a large (14") pizza topped with my favorites: pepperoni, Italian sausage, diced tomatoes, and pineapples. The pizza was hot, and the crust was pleasantly chewy. I loved how much pepperoni and pineapples were added - not sure about the tomatoes and sausage though. Ok so the pizza here is pretty good but not amazing! We often pick up from this location at my work and it's always the same quality. The round bbq chicken is a real highlight but the square pizza is very low quality, it's bland and overly greasy, if you're doing square in Michigan you must do it right! Yes, checkmark, sign me up please! Green lantern's menu features specialty pizzas and a build your own option. I opt to go classic with a half pepperoni, and the other half of the pizza being BBQ chicken. Pepperoni and cheese: Technically speaking, it's a beautiful slice. The dough is chick and chewy, with your corner pieces probably all the crispy crunch you can want. The cheese is extra melty. The only reproach, the pepperoni. Not only can it is use, but the pepperoni itself is lacking in flavor. A pepperory or spicy version would have totally put this over the top. A great pizza nonetheless. BBQ chicken: another beautiful chewy crispy crust. The pizza itself is loaded...chicken, red onion, and bacon. The chicken is marinated and nicely tender. The BBQ sauce catches you off guard, sweet and tangy. But the sauce is entirely too much, overpowering the entire pizza. There was absolutely no way to tell bacon ever made its way onto this pizza with the BBQ sauce taking no prisoners. Green Lantern is a worthy contender. One of the better Detroit styles in the area. I have been waiting to try this while it seemed to take forever to open. One evening after work I ordered a take out order and was told it would be 45 minutes. When I got there, the line was out the door and the parking lot was full. I guess I wasn't the only one waiting. I was in and out in about 10 minutes. It was still hot when I got home and enjoyed some. I got 4 meals out of it and it warmed up great. I ordered a delivery a few days before New Year and once they got my address correct so they understood I was in their delivery zone (south of 10 mile road and west of Middlebelt) it was easy. I used a coupon for 2 large pizzas with 2 toppings and extra sauce on both. I was having our annual Holiday friends gathering. Normally I have had pizza leftover when I ordered from Cottage but not this time. My friends had eaten it before in the original locations but told me how hard it was to even get a seat. That is for a good reason. A little more pricey but well worth it. I wanted to update my review for Green Lantern, because on my first visit, I wasn't all that impressed. On that visit, I had picked up the pie on my way home, and we ate it nearly 30 minutes later. This time, I got exactly the same pizza, but this time we ate it in house, and that seemed to make all the difference. The crispy edges of the Octopie, and the roasted garlic, were my favorite parts of the experience. I'm still on the fence about their sauce. Adding some hot pepper flakes helped. read more

I love the irony leading up to Green Lantern opening in this particular space. Once upon a time, this spot was a Secretary of State...ah, the Michigan SOS of yesteryear. A superior model of slow-moving and inefficient bureaucratic processes. Next, it opened as a Jazzercise and inspired masses of health minded people to dance to the music... it was the very antithesis of the SOS, and anything but slow moving. Jazzercise has since closed in that location and, in its place, opened a mecca of Michigan pizza. Which is kinda the antithesis of Jazzercise, right?! Green Lantern is easily in my top 5 pizza spots in Michigan (maybe anywhere), but Madison Heights is a little out of the way for a quick fix. Imagine my delight when I read on Yelp that one had opened next to one of my top 5 favorite shawarma spots (ahem, Green Cedar, and now Green Lantern in the same strip mall). Do you know what one of the best pizza toppings is?...those spicy tiny pepperonis. You know the ones. They curl and crisp and create golden pools of yum. The Lantern is famous for many reasons, but their mini pepperonis are one of those reasons and why I love their pizza so much. Their round crust has a touch of sweetness and little more crunch on the edges from caramelization than their competitors, but it's still soft in the middle, albeit thoroughly cooked...(doughy pizza crust is offensive). Their Lantern Bread, same deal...perfection. Their ranch is solid! And their pizza sauce hits all the right notes. Closer to water than cheese. It slid off the crust. The taste was essentially non-existent. That surprised me. Disappointed.
