There have been four student deaths during this school's four-year existence, but I am only going to speak about the three friends and fellow students we lost within the span of eight months, throughout which I received little to no meaningful support. When the first student passed away, people were shocked. Some teachers genuinely tried to empathize with us. Others seemed to have difficulty recognizing the magnitude of what had happened, especially if they did not personally teach the student. Tests and assignments continued almost immediately, even while students were trying to process that someone they knew had died. The second student's passing happened over winter break, and returning to school was incredibly difficult. Once again, we heard the same things: "We care about you," "Call 988," and "Go to the Wellness Center." I have not been to the Wellness Center this year, but last year, my experience with it felt about as useful as going into an empty room and talking to an AI agent. This year, a few of my friends told me that when they went seeking support during the first week of school, they were told that this suicide was essentially a short dip in the road ahead. Are you serious? Is that seriously what you tell a grieving teenager who is actively looking for support? Resources like the Wellness Center and 988 matter, but simply having resources does not automatically make students feel supported. Grief does not disappear because someone gives us a phone number or because a day has passed. There is an immediate response, and then everything returns to normal. Classes continue. Tests continue. Expectations continue. We are not robots. We cannot grieve for one day and be completely fine the next. The third death occurred during the first week of this school year. This time, I have seen teachers genuinely trying to understand what keeps happening. Some teachers themselves have been deeply affected. I want to make it clear that this is not an attack on our teachers. The overwhelming majority care. Some are incredible at showing it, while others care but struggle to know what to say or do. My frustration is with the larger environment we have created. The academic pressure at this school is on another level. Anything short of a 4.0 GPA can feel like failure. Students feel pressure to take as many AP classes as possible, participate in extracurriculars, build the perfect résumé, get into the perfect college, and somehow balance everything else. I have personally intervened with three different students who were in crisis after doing poorly on tests. That should tell us something. And the pressure does not only come from school. Parents need to be part of this conversation too. It is easy to say mental health matters after a tragedy. It is much harder to live by those words when your own child comes home with a grade lower than expected. Students should not be made to feel like failures because of a test, a B, a C, or because they did not meet somebody else's definition of success. Bullying and student culture also need to be addressed. We cannot demand kindness and compassion after someone dies while ignoring cruelty, exclusion, harassment, and pressure while students are still here. Then there is the school's infrastructure. Emerald is a beautiful campus, and I am genuinely fond of the building and its resources. But its population appears to have been severely underestimated. Even during the first year, with fewer than 1,000 students, parts of campus felt crowded. Now, with four grade levels, passing periods can become so packed that students are regularly pushed around while trying to get to class within eight minutes. Emerald has good teachers, strong resources, and a beautiful campus. But those things mean very little if students are suffering underneath the surface. Four deaths in four years should concern everyone. Three deaths within eight months should force us to ask difficult questions. We need to seriously examine academic pressure, bullying, parent expectations, student culture, meaningful mental-health support, and how our school responds to grief. We cannot keep responding for a few days and then waiting until something happens again. Students should not have to lose another friend before adults decide something needs to change. Emerald and DUSD, we expect more. Please listen to us. Please take this seriously. Please do better. And to the teachers who truly care: thank you. You have helped and saved more students than you realize.

The business owner told me when signing up to give my sons email. Days before -- no email on what to bring. I messaged Anshika, the business owner and asked her what to bring. She said no need to bring anything -- and that the class is now 9:30-11:30. So class is cut down 1 hour. This weeks class is only 4 days - which would mean it's 8 hours of instruction. She explained that most kids can not sit that long and that her teachers are highly qualified and that we are paying a cheap price for what we are getting. She said she would give us the extra hour for free-- even though our receipt indicates the class is 9-12. $335 is not cheap for a 4 day class. First day of class- we are the only participants in this class. We are told that my son has huge gaps and that his writing is messy. 2nd day - I mention that he does have adhd but he has ok grades. He is not disruptive and he is willing to learn. 30- 45 mins later - I get a call that because I am unsatisfied with the program that she will credit me and that I can pick up my son at anytime. She said they are not equipped to teach someone who has adhd and to mention it on Yelp. I was credited my full amount for both classes that I signed up. I do not recommend this business. They have highly qualified teachers that are not willing to teach someone who has learning gaps per the owner. The owner should not be in customer service.
