We're a military family without relatives nearby, and this school has truly become our extended family. We've been part of this community since my kids were just a few months old, and I can't say enough amazing things about the school. We recently transferred our youngest son to Brave Christian Schools as a sophomore this year, and I cannot say enough good things about the experience. Transferring high schools mid-stream can be daunting, but the transition here has been seamless and incredibly positive. From day one, the community has been welcoming and nurturing, making him feel right at home. It is such a relief as a parent to see him thriving in an environment that genuinely balances academic excellence with strong faith-based values. We have attended Brave Church for the past five years, so we already knew and loved the heart of this community. Seeing those same values--integrity, kindness, and a focus on purpose--woven into the daily fabric of the school has been a blessing. Both of our kids started in Brave Christian's preschool and have been here ever since -- now in 7th and 4th grade -- and we couldn't imagine them anywhere else. The teachers don't just teach; they go above and beyond every single day. They know our kids, encourage them, challenge them, and somehow make learning feel like something they choose to do. That alone deserves a medal... or at least a parade. We also appreciate how the school stays grounded in Christian values and Bible-based learning. It's woven into the school day in a way that feels authentic, uplifting, and genuinely meaningful for our kids. The wide range of athletic opportunities is another huge plus -- for both boys and especially girls. The school truly invests in girls' sports, and it shows. Our daughter feels supported, confident, and excited to compete. And the campus? Stunning. Set up on a hill with a beautiful hillside view, it feels peaceful, safe, and inspiring -- the kind of place you actually want your kids spending their days. Just sharing some more information for those looking at my review: 1. In terms of race and gender, they are quite diverse. But they are very faith-focused at many points. Please note that on their website they do endorse items like marriage being only between one woman and one man and even their class examining different religions has a Christian bias. That does not mean that non-Christians or people who may go against these values will 100% be treated bad(although I can't speak for any new changes or LGB people), but it is something to note if you are looking at this school. 2. Adding onto the diversity part, I had teachers that were more conservative, others that were a bit more nuanced, some I have no idea about, teachers who care about social justice. But all the teachers I had were very much nice to me in some way, even as a non-Christian. In other words, the teachers very much care about their job and ensuring your child will be well-rounded enough and good at thinking. I found that I was much better at thinking about the world as a whole, though that may be more about me than the school. But just note that there might be a diversity of views, some you might find uncomfortable, but none that I would call concerning or enough to tell you to not enroll. 3. They seem to really be investing more in sports again, and it's clearly working. Can't speak more about that, but if sports is a priority for you, that might be something to look at. 4. Please note that this review speaks about experiences for this school under its original title as Valley Christian. I can't speak for any new changes under Brave Christian, and they may result in a very different experience than my review has given. Personally, I didn't like what I heard about where the school was heading near the end of my experience there, but that is my opinion and I can be a bit pessimistic. Please do your research before making the decision about whether you would like your child to attend this school! In summary: Unless you just really do not like Christianity, it's worth having a look at this school. But be sure to have a deep look at the school before you make your choice. read more

This is the best kid school ever for my grandson to attend school since he was two! I wanted to thank Darren Law who runs the school after taking it over a few years ago and turning it around to become a school with a long waiting list. Would not recommend school if you are an LGBTQ family. My son was actively pursued to attend the school to play in their sports program but the day before interview was told they would not be moving forward with his admission. Reason was that our family didnt align with their Christian values and they would lose supporters if son would have attend due to our family being of same sex marriage. My son should have been able to explore and been accepted of Christian faith, however with the mission of the school and administrators they do not follow the meaning of Christianity. Would advise to look for private schools who are more inclusive and embrace diversity!! read more

My daughter was in the 2s class this year and she loved it. Her vocabulary and other skills blossomed significantly. I love that they teach prayers and songs. Our class had a great team of teachers (Ms. Sarah and Ms. Claudia in the morning, and Ms. Felicia and Ms. Rose in the afternoon). The class size started at 10 kids and had 12 by the end of the year (6 kids per adult). There's great diversity in the students. Valley Christian has many enriching programs like arts&crafts, Spanish, music, gardening, and other activities. The respectful and friendly staff are a huge plus. Ms. Rina, the director is awesome, and she knows the kids by name! They use the brightwheel app for updates, messages from/to staff, and pictures. If you're looking for a private Christian school, this is the school to choose. read more

All my 3 kids go to VCS since kindergarten. My oldest is in high school now and my other two are in middle school. VCS is the second home of my kids where they not only get education, but also found their value, their support and comfort at this place. Valley Christian school has blessed our 3 kids and our family in so many ways for the past 9-10 years that honestly we wouldn't be where we are today if it wasn't for this wonderful school and its awesome team of kindhearted and committed teachers/staff who always go above and beyond supporting our family and accommodating our special needs. Although it takes our special need son quite a few years to catch up coming from zero ability to grasp concepts (plus other challenges..dyslexia, autism, etc), his progress is a true miracle and just beyond any expectations or explanation!! Brave Christian Preschool and Elementary has been a literal saving grace. I had so much anxiety about enrolling my kids somewhere that was safe, inviting, had a faith based curriculum was just an added bonus, but to also have staff that truly cares about the well being of the children and their development was what drew us to enroll our kids. Rina in the preschool is phenomenal. She embraces families, and takes the time to really get to know them as individuals. The teachers are incredible. Passionate, caring, loving, and truly special educators. In elementary Tara the principal is truly amazing. We have been at Valley Christian Schools for the past few years and have absolutely loved our experience. The school is beautiful and extremely welcoming. The administration and teachers are approachable, responsive and innovative. When a challenge arises, they are quick to respond and resolve. The school events are well planned out, fun and effective at building an amazing school community. We love that the school has a spiritual foundation, but welcomes everyone, no matter what your religious affiliation is. The small environment has been a safe place for my children to grow, learn, make mistakes and get the academic attention and focus they need. In addition, my children love the school's athletic program. While they both play a club sport, they are still able to enjoy trying new things at school. The curriculum for this school is great but the school is so small that kids can't expand their friends group. Kids at this school are over privileged brats. extreme bullying. I have encountered a lot of these kids and even as an adult I'm disgused by their behavior. Valley Christian will do nothing to protect your child. I'd give Valley Christian Preschool 6 stars if I could. Here are some highlights from our son's 4 year old preschool experience: -Our son is extremely shy and takes a long time to warm up. But all the staff, and his teacher in particular (Ms. Olivas), made him feel so loved and comfortable that eventually he started talking, making friends and even looking forward to heading back to school on Mondays! -He made great friends there, as it's loaded with awesome families. -They prioritize teaching them about God's love. -The admin's (and entire staff) are super kind and very responsive via messaging. -The Brightwheel app makes check in and check out, as well as all correspondence extremely easy. They even post pictures of your child throughout the day sometimes. -the campus is very secluded, safe, and beautiful I can't find one fault with this school. Choosing Valley Christian High School has been one of the best decisions our family has ever made. Our son moved to Valley Christian for high school and has flourished with the smaller class sizes and the personalized attention from teachers. Valley Christian High School has been a wonderful place for our son who had a horrible time in public school with their intimate class sizes. He is getting more help, more direction and is immersed in classes he actually likes. The teachers are all amazing, strict but structured so the kids are learning to be independent thinkers. He is also enjoying the sports and PE options. I really wish we had enrolled him here in elementary so he could have had a much more pleasant experience with school and have more self confidence. On the down side, there is no library, no music classes or cafeteria onsite for HS at least but they DO have an amazing performing arts department, computer and graphic design lab and science labs..oh and a beautiful, new turf field. They are working to update the school so hopefully we'll see these upgrades soon. We're positively thrilled with VCS and its so rewarding seeing him smile everyday. read more

My son attended this school when he was 1 and left when he was 2.5 years old. They are not a school that caters to every child. The new teacher that was assigned to him Sarah Munekawa was quick to label my child eventhough she had just met him for 2 months. The school director Rina Jarin was not helpful and refused to work with us and refused to offer any other solutions for my son. I chose this school because I wanted a religion centered community for my son but instead got a judgemental toxic school environment. My son cried going to school everyday and I assume that he was going through separation anxiety. Now I realize it was not normal behavior. He is now in a nurturing and judgement free school environment and he loves it. He happily goes to school everyday and is showing immense progress in all areas. Valley Christian preschool needs to infused their Christian teachings to their staff before thinking about teaching it to the kids. read more

Writing a second review, since my first one was removed due to lack of specifics. We spent 2 months at the elementary school, and left due to safety and health concerns, as well as shady practice by the finance and admin staff at the elementary school. Here are the specifics: - SAFETY concerns: Day 1 of elementary school, the after school staff refused to stay 15-20 more mins passed 6pm for my husband to pick up my kid's car seat, even if we offered to pay more. They let my kid go buckled as a grown up in the back seat without a care in the world. - HEALTH concerns: My kid fell in the playground and came home with a bleeding belly, and scrapes all over his hands. We were not notified by the school. They also give gummy bears to students in the after school in lieu of their healthy snacks we send from home without the parents permission. The Kinder kids do not eat lunch properly due to lack of proper supervision and education to eat their lunch. All the healthy snacks we sent in bags for after school were untouched, and the teachers refused to give my kid his snacks several times. Why? - SHADY FINANCE practice: They took $8k out of my bank account without warning for the second half of the school year, without my permission. They knew we had plans to pull our kid out of school since day 1, but they went ahead anyways and charged for it. When we asked the office, they acted very passive aggressive, and treated us with disdain. One week after we left, they kept on depositing checks for activities that my kid was not part of, like a field trip, and his bday sign on the Electronic board. Why? This shows lack of integrity, lack of organization, and lack of respect. They refuse to return the extra activities money alleging that they did us a "favor" by returning us the tuition money and letting us go. Why this treatment? Am I being forced to donate the extra money to the school? Lastly, just for the record, we are Latinos, and we were never treated well at this school since the day we went in person. Black Lives Matter! PS: The Kinder teachers are okay, and also the Librarian Mr Reed. The issue was solely with the admin staff more precisely Jessica, Jacque, Tuesdae, and Lopez. Hopefully this review does not get removed by the school this time since it has a lot of specifics. The school needs major improvement, customer service classes, finance classes, organizational skills classes, multi-cultural classes, inter-personal skills classes. Sad to say but this school is an embarrassment to the Christian community. read more

The administration across all schools (preschool to highschool) is heavily governed by the church. How does this impact childcare and education? As COVID was in full force with school closures across the east bay and trivalley, VCP enforced full tuition to all parents. They claimed, "Since there is no subsidized funding for private childcare centers, we must rely on our families to continue to stand with us during this crisis. It's the only way we'll be able to retain the stability and continuity of care required to launch full-time, unrestricted care to your children with their beloved teachers when the shelter-in-place order lifts." Though they enforced and collected full tuition from parents, they gave our beloved teachers 2 options: 1) unpaid leave of absence 2) reduced work hours. I have contacted 11 other preschools in the bay area including joy preschool in Dublin, school of imagination (just up the block), and they gave all their teachers full pay and reduced tuition. I also contacted 84 mothers in the easy bay and they have also confirmed they were given the option of reduced tuition and teachers were provided full pay. All preschools qualified for PPP federal loan, including other church affiliated preschools. Additional policy updates or addendums addressing COVID were not made. Parents affected by COVID such as, unemployment, reduced work hours, relocation, were still enforced to pay tuition in FULL. I know firsthand of 2 parents who were under this category. They are REFUSING/DENYING refunds to families who have chosen not to send their children in the fall due to COVID and enforced them as "non-refundable". Teachers were only compensated for 6-weeks from a "generous donation." This is not from the full tuition all parents were paying from the months of April-May. The "executive pastor/COO" contacted me to enforce tuition. She gave petty claims of -- you partook in the zoom sessions, you picked up packets, the teachers went to deliver you your artwork. Despite an email (attached image) with the director that clearly states it was okay for me to do especially since the administration/Church did not give me a definitive answer if I officially withdrew from the school. Then she did the most EGREGIOUS act of privilege. She told me if I didn't pay within 5-days of the email, she would put it through COLLECTIONS. To use a structurally discriminatory system to threaten me especially during these times of civil unrest. They recently sent an email in how their church held a time of prayer for the families of George Floyd, but in the same breath throw me under collections. They CLEARLY do not understand the underlying cause of racial discrimination is from policies, laws, systems that oppress black and brown communities specifically, but also all people of color. To use that SAME system against me (!) demonstrates they have a long way to go in understanding systematic racism and the white evangelical church's role (silent, complicit, or monopolizing) When I addressed these points, they didn't respond. Including the head pastor, associate pastor, senior pastor, and head of schools. Lastly, there are some yelp reviews talking about diversity. Let me be VERY clear. Diversity is not predominately White and Asian, then under 5 black/brown children all within the same upper middle class. They do NOT offer FULL scholarship programs to promote diversity. In my daughter's 4 year old class there were, 3 asian students, 3 white, 4 asian/white mixed raced. I am truly disgusted in the way a church can handle their own staff and families. Neither showing grace nor mercy to either parties. Where did all the money go? Is this embezzlement? Did the pastoral staff including "executive" pastor pay themselves in full while the teacher's did not? Give me some answers! read more

All 3 of my kids go to Valley and started in preschool. My oldest is currently in Middle School. We have loved every stage. The teachers and office staff are amazing along with the leaders. We have seen such positive things since Brave and Valley Christian a church merged. God for sure is working on the hill! The small class sizes you just can't beat! Can't imagine sending my kids anywhere else! The elementary now offers a athletics program for the upper elementary. Middle school allows kids to explore all the sports while also getting the kids into the newly remodeled weight room and are guided on how to become athletes. My oldest is having the best experience in middle school! read more

Valley Christian schools bought out Brave preschool in San Ramon. Once Valley took ownership, I've seen a decline from Valley and Brave leadership in terms of compassion, customer service/care, and feel treated as a second-class citizen. Leadership has given our school a 20-day notice (during Teacher Appreciation week and 2 days prior to Mother's Day) of permanent closure due to "renovations". There were no other options provided and when we contacted Valley Christians other campus (Dublin), we were told there is no room for their Summer program and that classes were full for Fall as well. Not only are the 35 families from Brave preschool being affected, but the staff were essentially let go and have to re-apply to the Dublin campus with no assurances. This rash decision was provided with late notice, no sympathy/empathy for the families/staff, and no potential solutions provided. Renovations take months to plan, get permits, etc so a 20-day notice of closure this close to Summer (where these programs book weeks or months in advance) is irresponsible and careless. I hope Valley Christian hires our staff and provides our school with a room on their campus in the meantime or at least Summer so everyone has time to plan and find other options, but in speaking with Valley, that doesn't sound like it's going to happen or even a priority for them. Very sad and frustrating especially coming from a Christian-based school/program. Their actions reflect poorly on our faith and will undoubtedly turn many off from the church/Christianity. I have two children who have been attending Valley Christian for the past 7+ years with both starting in the toddler program. I can't say enough about the school and what a wonderful experience it has been! They have truly loving teachers who care for the kids and invest in them and their education. The class sizes are manageable so the teachers can give attention to each of the students. The kids have fun with the various events, the playgrounds and activities! The preschool offers a great pre and after school program as well as an interactive summer camp. Lastly the level of communication from the administration, the teachers and through the school app helps to stay informed! Highly recommended! read more

Great community of families from ages 2 months to 12th grade! Everyone is welcomed and feels like family!

From the perspective of a former student of the high school: Valley Christian was a very "safe" experience, but not one I would recommend to anyone. Academically the school really struggles especially when compared to schools in the area. They offer very few AP classes, and the teachers that used to teach them have all left, so they found people who don't actually understand the material to teach the classes. There was a very large shift a few years ago where Valley hired a director to change the direction of the school into becoming more academically oriented. I talked with him as a student about the vision of the school frequently, and none of it came to fruition because the leader of the church, Pastor Valci, decided it would be best to fire him because they seem to only care about the spiritual aspects of the school rather than anything else. The low salaries of the teachers were so well known that multiple teachers talked to me in my final year about the low salaries they were making. The teachers I did like were amazing, and I won't ever forget them, but if you care about your child having a fulfilling high school experience, you should not send them to this school. I mean why would you, the public schools are some of the best in the nation in this area. If you are looking at private schools, there are an amazing amount of different options in the area, where half the people in my junior class left the school halfway. Ask yourself how bad a school needs to be to see half its student's leave before graduating. read more

I can't say enough of about the middle school staff and principal at Valley Christian. We took a tour last March with my son who wasn't sure he wanted to switch out of public school... after 10 minutes of being there he asked if he could start that Monday. Since he started there we have been impressed over and over, not only by the teaching, but by the caring of the teachers and staff, and the culture of the school. It has been the most positive year in my child's education and I am only sad that we hadn't started here sooner. read more

My son is in the infant program here at Valley Christian. We also attend the church. The teachers are caring and easy to talk to, and most places have a 4-1 ratio, but VCPS infant care has 3-1 which really helps give each child the attention they need. It has a very safe feel and they're very organized! Preschool for your infant is a hard pill to swallow for a new mom, but VCPS makes it easier. The school had a profound, positive impact on both our girls. We brought them here because we trusted their values. It was the right thing to do. In general, the teachers were very good. That's not to say that they were perfect, but in general they were excellent. I cringe thinking of what our girls would have been like had they not got here. We have been a part of Valley Christian/Brave since the 2 merged in January of 2022. Ever since, the preschool has gone down hill and not due to the love and care of the Brave Beginnings team. The Valley team came in and immediately wanted to change the school schedule without any input from the preschools director, teachers, or parents. They are strictly looking at $$$ and not the human side. Which brings me to the preschool shut down. At the end of teacher appreciation week and 2 days before mothers day, the heartless email sent by Larry was delivered to parents. It was a slap in the face. They are shutting down the preschool, firing a director and 4 teachers, and 40+ families having to scramble to find new places for their children. All this with on 20 days notice. Multiple emails have gone unanswered and no one can give a straight answer. From members of Brave congregation, it sounds like Brave leadership was just waiting for Valley Christian $$$ so they could shut down the preschool and build a mega church. I find it very unprofessional that many of my questions to Larry Lopez ( Chief School Administrator) have gone unanswered. For someone in such a high position, to have emails go unanswered for weeks in concerning. If I had a child at Valley Christian I would be very concerned with Larry and what has happened recently. If Valley is willing to shut down a preschool with such short notice, whats to say they wont be engaging in shady practices with your child's school? Also the heartless letter sent out by Larry touched on the topic of teachers at Valley Christian. He stated that all 109 teachers/staff at Valley have to reapply for their jobs each year. As an educator I am shocked any teacher would be willing to reapply every year. If I were a parent I would worry about retaining the best teachers for my child's education. Our family has been part of the VCS community for 5 years now; since our twins started first grade. We have been extremely happy with the education they have received at Valley. The class sizes are small and there is no chance of your child being lost in the shuffle. The elementary school principle knows every single child and family. The teachers are invested in the success of your child and will work with you to ensure it. Our third child started in the infant care at 6 months and has now been at the preschool for 2 years. As a working mom it is hard to send a little one off that early but I knew he was in loving hands. He loves it there and adores his teachers. Our family is thankful to have found this community and been welcomed here. While I do feel they are all getting a great education, the most important aspect for me personally is that I feel they are part of a safe and caring environment.
