I have been to many sales held by this company and the owners have always been so helpful and attentive to details. if you ever have a chance to go to one of their sales, do not miss it. I went to the sale last weekend on a very narrow road with many driveways. There was a helpful young man ensuring folks didn't park on the narrow road and let me know the organizers had a shuttle running for those of us unable to make the walk to the sale. This house was packed with so many wonderful items! They were organized and displayed beautifully. I bought too much and did use the shuttle to haul my treasures back to my car. While I was inside the sale I heard a woman was upset about the efforts to reduce traffic. Another woman, who claimed to live in the street, was saying that she appreciated the efforts made to keep nonresidents off the narrow drive. read more

I have been a long time Estate Sale junky and have followed these guys since they started. I'm a looong time customer and try to get to every sale. My first purchase from Selena was a Vintage Aluminum Christmas Tree. A unicorn for a vintage Christmas nut, like myself. It was beautiful and a great price! IYKYK! I wait, every year for Green and Cate's pre Christmas warehouse sale. (They save up their Christmas items and have a big sale every year, just before the holidays) And every year, without fail, I find some vintage Christmas treasure. Ungique and inexpensive. 2 years ago I found a Dachshund Dream Pet that I've been hunting for, for years. Even their Shiny Brite ornaments (which have gotten way over priced) are priced reasonably. I also found a non Christmas treasure, last year, that I cherish. A Victorian glass cloche filled with hand made wool flowers. I bought it for a great price. Besides being reasonably priced I appreciate the kind customer service I always receive when I'm there. I am a "regular" of their sales and wouldn't miss them! For unique finds that are reasonably priced, their sales are the best. read more

I think they should rate estate sale companies like restaurants as far as pricing. I love going to estate sales to find a special treasure. These guys are one of the highest price companies doing estate sales. While I have seen things I would like to purchase I haven't because of their high prices. I saw a sale of theirs coming up with stuff that looks interesting. I am not going to go and look for a more reasonably priced sale. I give them $$$ for prices. read more

I can't say enough about this thoughtful company. Selena gave me spread sheets regarding items sold the first day. David and I had telephone calls regarding furniture and other items that we needed to sell. And Nick located a priceless genealogy book that I thought was lost in 2015. They worked tirelessly. Respectful of our belonging s and kindness was endless. Always available. Signage was excellent as were website advertizements. I thought we needed to hurry and I hired another company, first. They gave away my clothes all top quality from Macy, Talbot, Chico. And about 20 pairs of Birkenstock shoes, all good qualitiy. I asked them for a receipt for items donated, but they did not reply. I will not post their name here. Green+Cate did a 3 day sale, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. I tried to stay out of their way. When I went over after the end of the sale, they were still there, because people were still buying. My grandfather's desk (1910) sold while i was still there. Monday they had a Recycling sale, which netted us more money. Then they cleanup everything. Gave me a check plus several donation receipts from Sutter Hospice. They still have the legal bookcase, multiple shelves with glass fronts that need some repairs. They think it can be repaired and sold. They treated me like family. Selena and David are angels. I'm a Real Estate agent who hired Green and Cate to handle the liquidation of an estate in Healdsburg for a client. We were extremely pleased with the entire process. They spent two weeks sorting, organizing, researching, and pricing in advance of what was a 4 day sale. They stayed in close contact with us through out the entire process, and provided detailed daily updates during the sale. After the sale was over they spent two days systematically disposing of the leftover items, and turned the house over to us empty and clean! I went to an estate sale this past weekend and many many things were not marked. When the woman said the price of something i told her i didn't want it at that price (after being at many estate sales as well as their) i went to put the item aside and she grabbed it out of my hand and accused me of being gruff and unkind. I thought she was very unreasonable in her attitude and her pricing and she was very very nasty. I hadn't seen her at other sales, don't know who she was, i should have gotten her name and has really put a sour taste in my mouth for going to anything that these people do because i do NOT want to encounter this woman again. I know we all have good days and bad days, but i AM a customer, it doesn't mean i am always right, and i know this, but i do need to be treated respectfully - so WATCH OUT for this woman!!!!!! read more

I have had several dealings with Green & Cate and have been very happy with all of them. I have purchased at estate sales off site and at their cute spot in Sebastopol. I find their pricing is very fair, and much more reasonable then some of their competition. And I have also sold a big lot of items to them. Genuinely good people. Highly recommended. read more

I'v been going around to yard sales and estate sales for a while now trying to find good quality items at a pretty good price and this company really sticks to that. At all of their sales, they put up very clear signs, and directions, and pictures a few days before, which is appreciated! I'v talked to them about liquidating one of my grandparents home and they came for a free consolation and told me what it could all be worth and how we would do it which was super helpful! They gave a list of clients and established buys so it's nice to know my grandparents old antiques will be bought and taken care of. Honestly there are so many estate sale companies and companies that liquidate your house but I felt I could really trust them which was super awesome! Thanks so much!! read more

Woman immediately became rude and told me she was"insulted" when I asked if they would bargain, as I also found their prices high, and she said I was very rude for asking because she had worked so hard pricing for over 2 days. Absolutely no customer service skills. The man was no better- wanted me to apologize to her because I hurt her feelings. Huh? No posting of their absolute refusal to bargain on Fridays, by the way, which they cited as the reason I was being so rude- as if I was supposed to know that. Whenever you see this truck in the driveway, I suggest you turn around. read more

I have been to hundreds of estate sales and I have seen how impeccably this company from start to finish does an amazing job. They are full of compassion and it shows. They run a very tight ship and you could tell they work very hard to make sure that they do their best for whomever hires them. Well, if your situation is anything like mine then you definitely need to read this review.  I left my wife and three young children on Christmas day and flew 3000 miles to California because my sister was dying. I was grateful to get there for her last few days but after she passed I was suddenly thrust into a situation I had never faced before. I was standing in a three-bedroom home stuffed with things. Some of them were clearly valuable others were not. Some I had no idea as to their worth. So I did what most of you are likely doing right now, I turned to the Internet and began researching estate sale companies. After interviewing several experts in this field it became obvious to me that Whitcomb and Cate were different from the rest. What set them apart, constitutes the entirety of this review.  To put it in a sentence though, I would say that some folks stand apart from others by their willingness to be helpful and Tim Whitcomb and Selena Cate are clearly dominated by the spirit of loving service.  How do I know this?  Well, here's what they did for me. 1. Whitcomb and Cate clearly recognized the difficulty of my situation and the grief I was experiencing. We all know that real empathy can be felt.  I experienced it through their eye contact and communication style.  They seemed more interested in me and my well-being than they did in getting the job. They demonstrated genuine sympathy and compassion throughout our entire relationship.  This compassion even extended to the point where they humbly expressed confusion after I wrote them an email that failed to recognize a significant aspect of our contract. They could have pointed out my gross error easily but instead they asked me to clear up their confusion thus helping me realize my mistake on my own.  Not once did I feel like I was just another job for them. 2. They offered a service that was far superior to their competitors. Not only do they have extensive experience, but they also have a network of experts for determining the value of many different objects.  In my case, there was one object that was looked at by three independent experts before a price was put on it. Ironically, I ended up keeping it because it was so special and they had no problem with that. 3.  Whitcomb and Cate are very negotiable on what can be excluded from the sale, are willing to set reserves on certain items, and even negotiated their commission down for certain high-value items. I was very impressed by this because no other company was willing to do that. 4.  Whitcomb and Cate will tell you the truth even if it's hard to hear.  In my case, learning that my sister's beloved mink and sable coats were almost worthless was a tough one given that I know she paid thousands for them. 5.  Whitcomb and Cate are educators too.  They helped me understand many of the difficulties associated with settling an estate.  For example, I was worried about the tax repercussions associated with the income derived from the sale of all these items. Tim explain to me that this is usually in non-issue due to the fact of depreciation. For the most part items sold at estate sales are sold for significantly less than fair market value. Thus, if you document this, it is easy to demonstrate a capital loss for the IRS. 6. And speaking of documentation, Whitcomb and Cate offer a level of services that none of the others I interviewed do. First of all, they except credit cards. This is a huge advantage as people tend to want to impulse buy at these sales and often do not have enough cash in their pocket. Secondly, they use software that tracks every detail of the sale. At the end of each day I received an itemized report of items sold, for how much they sold, and whether or not they were discounted. I also received a final report at the end of the sale with all categories listed and every item accounted for. Remarkable! 7. Finally, it needs to be said that Whitcomb and Cate went the extra mile at every possible opportunity. They referred me experts for areas outside the scope of the sale, they offered to set up an alter in honor of my sister as part of the sale, they left the house clean and completely empty--ready to be sold.  They donated many of the leftover items to charity. They sorted through rubbish and recycled what should be recycled. They took hazardous chemicals to the appropriate disposal facility on my behalf. They even delivered heavy furniture to people who purchased from the estate sale who did not have the means or ability to get it themselves, and they did this out of the goodness of their hearts. I believe, as did my sister, that we live in a world where the kind and good people should prevail.  So, if you're like my sister and I, please consider giving your business to Whitcomb and Cate and discover the power of the spirit of loving service and what it can do for you during the challenging times associated with end-of-life. read more

Last weekend (12/14/17). I was at an Estate Sale in Sebastopol. Having been to hundreds of sales over the last 7 years, I felt very lucky to have found Tim and Selena's company, Whitcomb + Cate Liquidation Services. What great people to deal with! I had a wonderful experience and wanted to write a review. I choose Yelp to share my review. I want to encourage anyone looking for an Estate Company that Whitcomb + Cate did a fantastic job! This estate had many antiques and valuables items that were clearly marked and very reasonably priced. This sale was one of the best I had ever been to. The best one was the one they ran in Petaluma a couple of months ago. I was able to see pictures on their web site before the sale, which was a great help. Seriously, they were very organized, had great pricing. I felt they went the extra mile to help all the customers, and were doing a great job for their Client. After paying for my purchases, I got an itemized list of everything I bought emailed to me. Please be aware that Yelp does not verify, or stop people from saying things that just are not true. I don't think that's right so I am posting my honest opinion of my experience at this sale. Having lived in this county over 37 years on a small one lane dirt lane, I definitely understand how it is! Some people will follow the signs to go slow, and others just don't care. Not much we can do except post signs asking them to slow down, or put speed bumps in. Tim and Selena clearly posted many signs stating "not to park in neighbor's drive ways, respect the neighbors, and to drive slow". Caution tape surrounded the parking area which was clearly marked. The road looked just fine as I left and no damage had happened. What I don't understand, is the mentality of a few neighbors surrounding the estate sale who were waiving sticks and trying to stop people from entering. Another review I saw said that the owners of the home were "wonderful neighbors." Why then, were they so rude (Rude is a mild term). Just to clarify, not all the neighbors were upset. I actually met many neighbors who loved the sale and were very saddened by those few who were out of control. Just for the record, you don't have to pass away to have an estate sale. Downsizing or moving are just a couple of other reasons to have an estate sale. I would give this company a 5 Star review based on my experience with estate sale companies. Selena & Tim helped me with an estate sale in Santa Rosa after my mom's death. They were professional, kind, & efficient with handling the prep, sale, & aftermath and left the house clean & neat. They also were kind enough to offer help on tangential issues, which was highly appreciated given my emotionally fragile state. I stayed away during the actual sale, but neighbors told me they were on top of things. I also appreciated their focus on being "green" by donating/disposing of sale leftovers in as environmentally-friendly a manner as possible. I would definitely recommend them to others. read more
