Named after the founder of the New York Tribune, this is a great park to rest but it's loud and isn't meant as a peaceful retreat. It's a highly trafficked thoroughfare, since it's right in the center of the city where all the action is. It's still tastefully decorated at the entrances with holiday decor as of early January. There is some foliage and planters of green life that doesn't die in the winter, and there are benches where you can sit. read more

Greeley Square Park is a NYC Parks property of a triangle plaza. It is named to celebrated editor and political leader Horace Greeley (1811-1872) who launched the American newspaper, New York Tribune in 1841. There is a bronze statue of Quincy granite. I walked through this triangle plaza. There are limited tables and benches. There are also many food street vendors or food kiosk occupying public plaza space. Hubs and I sat here on a large rock that they have that surrounds the park while we ate our coin pastries from Speedy Korean Grill. The park has a few vendors setup that sells food. They also have some table seating areas and a public restroom. read more

My mom and I took some bagels to Greeley Square last weekend when we were staying in the area (the bagel shop had no available seating). The park has plenty of seating, and it was a great place to sit and enjoy our breakfast and coffee on a pretty morning. One of the best things about the city are its outdoor spaces where you can enjoy a meal or read. Greeley Square is one of those spaces for the midtown area. A small park right in the heart of the city ! It is awesome just to sit there and sip a coffee . Perfect spot for visitors to take rest amidst their busy schedule walking through the streets of NY .. there are eateries close by too. Good views from here . Well, we don't know Greeley today (1811-1872) but he launched the New York Tribune in 1841. In his heyday, he had an enormous influence on American popular opinion. Greeley's famous advice, "Go West, young man, go West," So he definitely was an Influencer and gets a small park in his name. What I like about the park is that if you ever been down here on the crossroads of 34th street, Macy's, K-Town you know the sidewalk and street corners are mobed by shoppers and tourist and Greeley Square gives you an escape and some space to relax. This place is cute for a quick bite if your hungry as they have a few interesting vendors from icecream to Mexican food and burgers. If you've been to Smorgasburg you probably will not be impressed. There's a lot of people.. and very little areas of shade. This means that people will hawk to steal your chair and table. I went to Domos tacos it was really good and I recommend it for nachos. Meh. Overcrowded. Touristic. Overrated. Waiting in line for food that is poorly prepared, rushed and overpriced is not my cup of tea. In addition, you're surrounded on all sides by congested traffic... hard to enjoy a meal in such settings. Do yourself a favor and get a decent meal elsewhere, even if you're in a hurry. You won't have problems finding better options. read more

This is a great section of Broadway. I like to go to the square and sit for a while. Lots of people watching goes on here. It's just a convenient small space in a busy area. You can find a lot of great dining. Get something to go in the summer and sit in the Square to have lunch. It seams to me there is always something fun going on in the area. A green market, an art exhibit, sculptures on display. It's close to Macy's, Penn Station, the garment district and much more. It's a mixed up combination of high end stores side by side with junk stores. Literally something for everyone!! I like to hang out in the Urban Outfitters Flagship Store nearby. If you rush through the area you may miss the statue. I don't always stop at this spot. I'm glad to know it's there if I want to sit down a while!! read more

Go West Young Man, Go West! A quick Google and Wiki review of Mr. Horace Greeley, reveals some interesting tid-bits about this mega newspaper man from the 1800's. The name and the park are lost in significance in the shadow of the worlds largest department store, but I like to grab a quick lunch or people watch here. The pedestrian area that they added in recent years lets you sit in the street with the feeling that you are part of the roadway, as cabs, buses and bikers go zooming by, only separated by a small metal fence. It's like an oasis of tranquility in a sea of surrounding madness that is Midtown. This small triangular park area is always buzzing with locals, people who work in the area, and tons of tourists. Shopping enthusiasts flock the Herald Square area for Macy's and all the name brand stores right up the street, and great eating for those craving some Asian is also close by in Korea Town. Over the years they have spruced this park area up to make it more pedestrian and visitor friendly. Plenty of tables with umbrellas, benches, shrubbery, and flowers make this a welcome spot to relax for a bit. It's actually very clean and well kept. Even the statue of Horace Greeley, who launched the New York tribune and said the famous quote "Go West, young man, go West" which overlooks the park, is pristine and well cared for. It's a nice park to take a break with a cup of coffee or snack from the nearby coffee kiosk during good weather days. Great for people watching but beware some of the crazies that seem to wander through and camp out here. Public transportation is close by with the Path train, subway lines, taxis, and Penn Station all within walking distance for a quick escape if needed. read more

B-O-R-I-N-G! Seriously, unless Broadway Bites by Urban Space sets up it's neat little shops in this park it really isn't anything grand. You have seats where you can enjoy lunch if you're lucky enough to find a seat. Considering it's adjacent to the Manhattan Mall, many people come across the street to take a load off so seating availability in moderate to summer months is dismal. On the plus it does have a nice bathroom. read more

Definitely a cool place to stop by for quick bites and drinks after work. Even though it's very crowded cuz it's a thoroughfare to Penn Station, and sometimes you get to play musical chairs if you really want to sit down and enjoy your food. Another neat little green spot in the heart of the Big Apple, Greeley Square is named after the founder of the New York Tribune, which was later merged into the New York Herald Tribune. Sadly, that newspaper stopped printing before I was born but the statue of Horace Greeley is still here, looking out at the city and this little bit of comfort amongst the steel and glass canyons. Signs are clearly posted that smoking is NOT permitted and I'm a huge fan of that. The park is very well maintained and I spotted zero litter. Chairs and tables for grabbing a seat to eat your lunch or to surf some wi-fi, there is excellent walking scenery going past at all hours of the day and into the evening. I have stopped here a couple of times because it's right next to the 33rd Street PATH station. read more

I pass by this cute little area about once a week. Though I typically don't have time to stop, I love to walk through the area to check out all the little food huts. There are a lot of different options from snacks to meals and desserts. The smell is a tasty mix of everything. The vendors always seem happy to help their customers. Greeley Square is the perfect FREE meeting place for friends/lovers/concubines without the hassle of entering Manhattan Mall. It's easy to find, clean, and not too big or too small. I do not consider Greeley square a park by any means. There are a few tables with chairs that are set up. Every time I have passed Greeley Square I have never seen anybody sitting at the tables. The park is very small I guarantee you 90% of the people pass this every day and has no idea that this area is actually called the Greeley square park. Greeley Square is located on Greeley and 32nd W. Street. The location itself gets a lot of pedestrian traffic it's a very busy area. There are a lot of cool food truck type of options around. The park itself is very small you can fit the entire location into 1 photo. Every once in a while I see a cop standing in the middle of the park with the Whistle. I've never seen them blow the whistle before. It's a cool little spot if you're passing by I don't know if you'd want to sit at the table with the amount of people traffic that comes by. But if you're a Tourist are you feeling adventurous try the food area. Let me know how it is I've never stopped here for food. read more

Greeley Square is one of those semi-hidden gems you can't wait to get to come summer time in New York City. Located between 32nd and 33rd (in between Broadway and 6th Ave) it's a small park with plenty of tables and chairs available for seating. Tourists, shoppers, and people (who work in the area) alike come to this spot to enjoy either a bite to eat, some sun, or just to people watch. Oh, and there are plenty of people to watch. The tiniest patch of land where K-Town meets Macy's shoppers meets Penn Station commuters. It barely qualifies as a park but the city has done a lot to make /keep it nice. Wandered past here last week and there was a Quiet Clubbing party to celebrate the kickoff of BroadwayBites (http://urbanspacenyc.com/broadway-bites/) We grabbed some headphones and a margarita and danced the night away under the stars. I'd love if there were more events here the way there are at Madison Sq. Park. read more

Good spot for a quick sit down and relax. Does get busy due to location right next to Macy's but have been here several times in our trips to NYC and always managed to get a seat easily - have not been in summer though. Head west on 32nd street towards Broadway. Step over that rat. Ignore that homeless person. Hop Skip and Jump over that pothole filled with cloudy swill-water. If you can avoid these three obstacles, you may make it to Greeley Square. It's on the smaller side, compared to Madison Square Park, or Union Square, but it is one of those nice places in the city where you can sit down and have a your lunch or read a book. Tough traffic situation, yes, but Broadway crossing over 6th really makes the neighborhood, so we deal with it. read more

Meh, I've been to better parks. I have even been to better 'parks'. This is New York City, so I'll be real about it, and Greenly Sq park does qualify as a park in the eyes of natives. My real problem with the park is there are so many mice and a few rats too. They definitely out number the people in the park at any given time. read more
