I fully accept that this is chinese food in Germany, but after a week of meat and potatoes I was craving something hot spicy and soupy with vegetables and lucky me I came across Great Wall which was a stones throw from my hotel and from the cathedral. I ordered the pork and bokchoy in chili sauce and hot and sour soup with rice and the combination knocked it out of the ball park. The pork was tender and perfectly cooked with the spice and heat from the mala pepper corns it was everything I was hoping for and more. I ended up coming here twice in the span of two days. The second night I got the dan dan noodles and even those were spectacular and really reasonably priced for such a satisfying meal. I would highly recommend if you are in the area and looking for authentic Szechuan food, you will see Chinese folks in the booths. It is that good. read more

Chinese restaurant in Germany. Right next to the biggest tourist attraction in town. Named "great wall". Literally everything pointed towards this being a terrible choice but yet we tried based on recommendations from yelp and we were very very impressed. My girlfriend being picky with food AND coming from sichuan China was very sceptical but after having finished several dishes she agree with me that this was not only a really good Chinese authentic place,but the best she has tried in recent years here. We got to know this place by the recommendation from one of our friend. The restaurant isn't difficult to find, it actually just couple mins on foot from Kölner Dom. Well, and the name of the restaurant quite hard to miss. The place isn't so big, but quite cosy. Not a bad place to hang out with friends at all. I came here also friends, we all like it. I struggled between 3 to 4 stars... let me point it this way: this is the best authentic Chinese food (specifically Taiwanese food) that I've had in Germany! But why not 5 stars then? Because I'm comparing it to my standards of Chinese food, not just in Germany. -Mapo tofu: spicy, good flavor, a bit on the runny and oily side. -Pi Dan tofu: a simple dish that'd hard to mess up. Refreshing and light! -Spiced chili crab: chunks of perfectly cooked crab, lightly deep fried then tossed in peppers, garlic and spices!! tasty!! -Dan Dan mein: definitely good flavor but a major disappointment as they serve it more like a soup. As vegans we weren't interested in "Frogs' legs à la Sichuan" or "Pig blood with prawns, squid and mushrooms" but found very authentic and tasty food non the less. The restaurant offers a good range of vegetables and we shared "Water spinach with garlic" and "House special aubergine" which both were very tasty. Worth going if you're hankering for spicy food cooked by Chinese people in Germany. The place was easy to find from Burgmauer...the issue was the entrance was on the street below. The handwritten note indicating the new entrance was in German, which does not help this Asian American... When I did find it, it was very small, but tastefully decorated in vaguely Asian décor. However, there was 3 flights to the restaurant, all of which was accessible by a small, tight spiral staircase. The staff all spoke Mandarin, German and some English. The menu was in German and English, with pictures of the food. It was interesting to note that the meat and vegetable dishes were similarly priced. Is this because it's hard to get other vegetables (beside cabbage)? Or is this frequented by vegetarians? Or both? I opted for the dry noodles with sesame paste, beef with chili (3 peppers) and pu erh tea. The noodles and beef tasted very good together, although both were rather greasy. The other thing that bothered me was the use of pickled chili rather than the dried red Thai chili which would be easy to procure. The final grouse is the cost--the meal came close to 30 euros. All of which knocked the potential 3 star down to 2 star. However, this may be the best Chinese food you can get in the area, as when I was there, there were a few Asian diners, most of whom spoke Mandarin. read more

On a blistering rain i found this restaurant. The main door is full of awards and recognition prizes. So, i think .... perfect location. I was so wrong. I didn't have a reservation, I admit that. But the personnel is very rude and they prove a serious lack of education. They yell at me that no reservation, this is full and to wait outside .... in heavy rain. They don't allow me to wait inside. I left the location with a bitter taste in my mouth. This is a disgrace behavior and I think those guys are a shame for entire people of China.
