We traveled to Rome and Sicily on a tour. The tour operator didn't do his job properly. Example: he would sleep on the bus instead of teaching us history. Or when someone. Had to go to the restroom, he told her to hold it but she couldn't. It took a fellow traveler to tell him "isn't that Peto?, wouldn't there be a restroom there" as we were approaching it. He did stop the bus. Just two of many examples of a poor tour guide. But the tour itself was great and the accommodations were great as well. Also, I wouldn't recommend taking the boat from Rome to Sicily. read more

Absolutely fantastic travel company! They made it so easy and completely customizable. My daughter and I traveled to Eastern Europe last fall for a birthday trip. We were able to choose our flights, hotels, even the times of our trains and transfers. Also we were able to add excursions in the cities we wanted. And then all of our tickets and travel info was in one spot. And best of all, they included a local contact person for each stop of our trip in case we ran into any snags- which thankfully we did not! It was the most fun planning the trip; and the least stressful trip I've ever taken. And I was pretty nervous traveling by ourselves. Everything was just as promised and scheduled. I used Great Value Vacation back in 2022 for my honeymoon to Malta! Everything was fantastic! First, I have to say the price was incredible! If I tried to book flights, hotel, and airport/hotel transfers myself, it would have been way more! Second, the hotel and airport/hotel transfer was amazing! I even called customer support the day before our flight home because I was unsure when our airport transfer would be getting us from the hotel. I wasn't on hold for more than 15 minutes, which was amazing as I didn't want to waste my last day of vacation on hold. Likewise, they told me they would call the hotel back and leave a message for us when they figured out what time our transfer would be getting us. Sure enough, when we got back to the hotel later that evening, there was a message telling us exactly what time to be in the lobby and who/what car to look/wait for for our earlyyyy morning transfer! Last, I love how great value vacations gives you ideas of what to do each day in your destination. Overall, Malta was the perfect honeymoon destination that had European charm and the romantic beachy feel, and Great Value Vacations made it so easy to book and enjoy our honeymoon at a great price! read more

I have used this company for a few tips: The Galapagos Islands, The Baltics, and Colombia. They really take the stress out of traveling. I have not had any issues with any of the trips. They have a lot of really great deals depending on the airport that you fly out of. I like to do some research on the rooms and make sure I'm aware of the schedule. The only downside is that they never have any last minute trips available-- you need to book months in advance. read more

We are back from the Norway trip. It was excellent overall. The first hotel was definitely not newly renovated but it was not dirty. Location was doable but with bus & metro. Breakfast was wonderful! Bait and Switch. We booked the heavily advertised Tuscan Castle Experience 10 months in advance. Paid for the trip at that time and received confirmation of our stay at the castle. Two months before the trip, out of nowhere, GVV tells us we can't stay at the castle due to "operational reasons" and will explain that no further. To be sure, the castle is up and running and GVV continues to book the vacations. (When i checked with the hotel they said they made a mistake and sold our room to someone else). GVV forced us into an airbnb more than an hour away from the Castle, and an hour and a half away from the "suggested add ons" for the trip, which take place in Florence. As far as i can tell, they advertise the Castle and then move you to an underperforming property, and they do so too late for you to do anything about it. When i complained about the alternative accommodation choices, one of which involved sleeping on a sofa bed, they offered a refund of $580 dollars, with which we were apparently supposed to book accommodations for four people for six nights. Maybe if they had told us ten months ago that our confirmed stay wasn't real we could have tried to find alternatives, but now there is nothing, and certainly not for four people for six nights. The customer service manager was hostile, acting like i was unreasonable for wanting the stay i booked and paid for which they confirmed 10 months before the trip. read more

I've been a loyal customer of Great Value Vacations for years, booking around 5-6 trips with them. Sadly, after my most recent experience, this will be the last. I paid around $12,000 for a trip to Europe that included an "upgraded" hotel package. However, the first hotel we arrived at was anything but upgraded. The exterior was boarded up, the interior was worn, outdated, and the room was unacceptable: Stains on the carpet, a shower drain that didn't function, old, damaged furniture. It was so bad we refused to stay there and immediately booked another hotel out of our own pocket. When we returned, I reached out to Great Value Vacations to explain the situation and request a reasonable refund for that portion of the trip. At first, they responded quickly -- but after that initial exchange, I reached out three more times and have been completely ignored. No updates, no resolution, no follow-through. This experience is not only disappointing -- it's disrespectful to loyal customers. I gave them multiple chances to address the issue privately and fairly. Instead, I'm now left with a significant expense and zero accountability on their part. I'm writing this review to help others make an informed decision. If you're considering booking with Great Value Vacations, be aware: the "upgrades" may not match expectations, and if something goes wrong, you may be on your own. read more

I have used Great Value Vacations for a few amazing trips. The Northern Lights in Iceland, the Eiffel Tower in Paris as well as the Parthenon in Athens to name a few. They are super easy to use, very helpful if any trouble arise and a great value!!! During one of our trips, a flight was cancelled and they reached out immediately to get us re-booked and told us if we had any costs because of it to use our trip insurance(which we had) would reimburse us and they did! The packages are pretty fantastic! In Iceland we did so many adventures that we may not have booked on our own. They make it so easy to see so much, if you want, or not!!! Very poor value. I could have booked the same hotels for half the price using any hotel booking site. I also would of had a better hotel had I booked myself. THe airfare was even worse. They do not tell you that your flights require a connection and are basic economy. Therefore no assigned seats. An easy 6 or 7 hour flight to Europe is routed through Canada. That makes the flight time terrible and makes the flight take TWICE as long. I could have flown non stop for the same price, and paid less for the hotel. BAD VALUE for anyone that has any prior travel experience. read more

We're off to a rocky start. I booked my vacation package to Hawaii just a few days ago and today noticed that my credit card was charged a higher amount than the quoted package. It was only by 1 cent, but it's still an overcharge, it's deceptive and it's against the law. If they are doing this to everyone, that adds up to a lot of money. Check your receipts! The person I initially spoke to on the phone was dismissive and incredulous that I wanted my penny refunded. You bet I do. I worked in consumer protection my entire career, so this really irks me. We'll see if they refund me. Update, I was refunded very quickly and notified by phone. We're really looking forward to our vacation! read more

I booked a 10-day trip to Ireland for my husband and myself in 2019. The trip included airfare, car rental, one-night at a hotel in Waterford, and a voucher for bed and breakfasts that we could schedule on our own for the rest of the trip. At the time, there were roughly 5 or 6 flight options to choose from. Coming from San Diego, it was going to be a long journey regardless, so we found a flight that would get us to Ireland at a reasonable hour. One downfall of the itinerary is that the first night HAD to be in Waterford, meaning that after a really long day of travel, we needed to rent a car and make the 2 hour drive South to Waterford. We were able to forfeit the first night's stay and book another place out of pocket, but we were trying to save some money and went straight to the required location. Ultimately I'm so glad we did because one of the highlights of my entire trip was renting a bike and cruising down the Waterford Greenway - it was gorgeous and gave us the opportunity for some exercise and enjoy the beautiful day. The bed and breakfast voucher was held through another third party which made it pretty easy to schedule and reserve. There were tons of options and this package let us set our own itinerary (minus the first night in Waterford). Overall, Ireland was a FANTASTIC trip and my husband and I still talk about it often. I never had to interact with Great Value Vacations once the package was purchased so I don't have much to input regarding their customer service, insurance claims, or any other issues. Given the experience I had, I would book with them again and I definitely prefer bundles that give us a flexibility so that we can make it the vacation that we truly want and not compromise to fit the company's schedule. **Side Note - We had some hiccups with the auto insurance; the travel insurance policy I purchased didn't specifically say "The Republic of Ireland", so the rental company wouldn't accept it. Due to the time zone change, it was tough to get a rep on the phone and even when they did, they weren't able to change the verbiage to match what the rental company wanted so in the end we needed to add the auto insurance policy to our rental fees which was an additional $250. This wasn't GVV's fault since we went with an outside company, but please make sure you ask your travel insurance company if you will be covered before you buy!!** read more
