Very very sad to see they have closed. There's so much I could say about this place but all I regret is not showing it love on here earlier. Let's review the places we frequent and show them as much love as possible. My family had been coming since the late 80's. I was an infant in the 90's when they started bringing me here. It almost...almost felt like a third space for my family. We probably came at least 200+ times, if not substantially more. The service was always quick, even on their busiest days they really tried to get you taken care of. The inside was quite quaint, and the food was pretty consistent. We went so much that we definitely had off days but never had a legit bad experience there. Never got sick off their food, and never got sick of seeing Bernard. I hope they open something else for us or relocate, and if not I manifest success in their future. Sad to see this place is closed. We've been coming here for 25 plus years. Many people in the comments complain about the staff and how rude they are. Put yourself in their shoes. Weekends are insanely busy and you have so many guests telling you this and that. They barely get any traffic during the weekdays. And they barely get days off or take vacation time off. Bernard is the best owner. He will remember everything about you down to your ex boyfriends. I really hope they have another location opening. I heard this spot is already being used as a banquet. My kids have high standards when it comes to dim sum and we haven't really broken the news to them yet. My family has been coming to Seafood House/Seafood Harbor for over 20 years. Seriously. it's been generations. I've been coming since I was a child, I brought my family, my kids. etc. We've spent countless Christmas', Easter's, Graduations, Family Reunions, Anniversaries, etc. But today. Today was fucking ridiculous. We put in an order for 1pm on Christmas Day and I'm sure they didn't even start our order until after we showed. Our food wasn't ready until 2:15. Came here last night to have dinner with a friend who had never experienced Dim Sum. I was so excited. But when I stepped in the lobby where my friend was waiting, I noticed it was super quiet ...nothing like the other times I had been here. That's when they told us they only do dim sum until 3:00 every day. I was SO bummed! I had been craving dim sum! We had to order off the menu. It's been years since we last dined here, and we recently celebrated a family birthday. This is one of the few local places (without traveling far) that serves chicken feet, a favorite of the celebrant. That was one reason we decided to give it another try. We dropped in for a weekday lunch with no wait and plenty of tables available. Service was attentive, although a bit overwhelming, as expected. Once seated, you're swarmed with servers pushing carts and plates, asking if you'd like to take their items, with little chance to even glance at a menu or request drink orders. We had to slow down and get a menu to order items not available on the carts. Plenty of "no, thank you" were spoken during our lunch. Since lunch wasn't too busy, many staff members were standing around, hoping to sell more items. Overall, the experience this time was okay, and it was a little rushed. The chicken feet were good, but most of the dim sum items were bland, although they were warm. We ordered the House Special Lo Mein, enough for a party of five or more, and it was hot and decent. Most items didn't exceed expectations. I've had better dim sum in other places. When you are done with your meal, they still ask if you would like to order more for takeout before bringing the check. They aren't shy at all about getting you to buy more. On the plus side, this place can accommodate large parties, and the food may taste better when there are more patrons, as it doesn't sit in the carts for too long. Came back here last month and boy has it changed. The food is still good, but the service is horrendous in its own way. As soon as we were seated, we were mobbed by cart ladies trying to forcefully put stuff on our table. After we fended them all off, we tried to order regular water, but the waiter said that they only offer bottle water. This was a first for me, and a ridiculous one at that. Seriously? Mind blown. Fortunately food items were easy to get but having the cart ladies be so aggressive and vulture like, it doesn't make for good ambience. Also, they have started to unethically put two orders of any item you request on your table, when you only ask for one! Had to correct them about this, and they stopped doing it. When it comes out fresh, make sure you cut it in half to cool it before eating. DESSERT: -Egg tarts -Sesame balls DRINKS: Their hot tea is very refreshing. They have Jasmine and Chrysanthemum ***Bring your own reusable water bottles. They do not offer water for free. They will charge you for bottled water. SERVICE: When you order dim sum they are very aggressive. ****They do not give you a menu to look at. Therefore there is a lack of transparency on the prices. I wish they could give each table a menu so you are aware of the quantity of pieces and the price. They have their cart and will put the plate on your table if you do not firmly say NO! Make sure you make eye contact, shake your head vigorously, and say NO loudly if you do not want a dish. If it is on your table they will stamp your bill and charge you. ***I would assign one person to hold the bill and after they place the item on the table give it to the server to stamp, so you know you are getting charged for that plate. This place has been around forever and you can see how it might've been nice in its hey day. (the chandeliers have star shapes ooh~). We used to come here occasionally for lunch but haven't been back since the pre-pandemic. We decided to give it a try for a weekend lunch. Wow it's bad. They don't offer cups of water w/ice (like a standard restaurant), they only offer bottled water for $2 each. Costco Kirkland brand no less. When they gave us 4 bottles we tried to tell them we only need 2 (since we also had tea) but they refused because it was already written down on the tab. Ugh. Nothing we ordered seemed fresh. Shrimp har gow was stuck to each other, xiao long bao was also stuck to each other like har gow and when we picked it up the filling came out but it was so dry there was no soup inside. 1/4th of the foods we ordered was cold. Egg tart is supposed to have a flaky crust but it looks almost like it was deep fried instead of baked. When we took a bite it was cold; cold like it came out of the fridge wtf. We expected 3 but they gave us 6? So it's more cold food. The turnip cake was like room temp cold. I don't even understand how this could have happened. They usually fry it up before serving it. We had 2 orders of rice noodle w/shrimp, that was as expected. Deep fried shrimp dumplings with chives. That was good, nice and hot as expected. The tea was hot but drinkable out of the teapot (so not scalding). Sesame balls seemed ok (I didn't eat it but the kids did). Like everywhere else, prices have gone up but at least the serving size remains generous. We also appreciate the fact that they still have the dim sum carts and an extensive variety of dim sum dishes. We enjoyed most of the items they offer, particularly the dishes with shrimp and/or scallops as the seafood are tasty, tender and plump. I don't recommend the soup dumpling as the dumpling skin is too thick and the meat tends to be pretty dry as if the soup had leaked out long before it got to the table. The cart servers will actively try to convince you to accept every variety of dim sum plates on their carts and some can be a bit pushy about it. After you get seated, there are servers walking around with carts of dim sum, offering a wide variety of dishes. They're all freshly steamed or pan fried, and it always satisfies my cravings. I go here with my family pretty often, and we always have a good time enjoying some good food. It feels so lively inside. It can feel a little chaotic at times with so many people asking if you want something from their cart. However, I love that the food is freshly made and ready to serve right when you get there. Food There are a variety of classic dim sum choices to pick from with the dim sum cart ladies going around. The usual choices of siomai and har gow were good and can't really go wrong with them. Most of the steamed choices tasted good and I would definitely come back if I'm craving dim sum. The fried choices were okay but a bit dry. Overall i'd say not the best place for dim sum but definitely a safe choice to satisfy cravings. Service/Ambiance Now these dim sum aren't really known for amazing service but it was pretty okay this time around. Haven't been here in years. The food tastes great but the prices skyrocketed. The fried pot stickers were overpriced ($10) same price as the walnut shrimp which is odd imo. The aggressive way they want you to buy everything is kind of annoying. A lot of the staff there doesn't understand english because I kept repeating what I wanted and they brought me the wrong thing I felt I had to pay for. The stamps with no prices is still very annoying and honestly is always a little sketchy imo because they don't use a calculator and what not. They were mighty pushy today-slinging them dim sum bites, whoa! It's peak lunch hours & the place looked very lonely, with just 4 other tables occupied. Sign of the times, folks. The usual: shiu mai, pea sprouts, calamari, fried tofu, chicken feet, shrimp in rice noodle, seaweed wrapped shrimp. The tofu & calamari needed some freshening up-so they offered to reheat those. I requested a table where we could bring our service animal, and to their credit, they accommodated us. The restaurant was nearly empty during lunch, and it quickly became clear why. I arrived at the table ahead of my husband and mom. I wasn't even seated yet when three cart ladies rushed over and began offering food and forcibly putting food on my table, all at the same time. I was bombarded with dishes before I had a chance to settle in. I asked them to stop multiple times, but they kept piling food onto the table. I was able to stop them and ended with 11 trays. When my husband and mom finally joined me, we were immediately approached by more pushy staff trying to offer more food. It was overwhelming and uncomfortable. To make matters worse, the food was cold and some of it dry. When I counted our dishes, I noticed that the cart ladies had sneakily double-stacked trays, resulting in extra food I didn't agree to take. I approached and politely brought this up to the short-haired older woman wearing glasses, but she was dismissive and rude--I was explaining to her what happened and she freaking shushed me!!!! She removed the 2 extra trays and adjusted the stamp count and walked away. But not once did she apologize. Obviously this is nothing new to her and she didn't care. I barely ate anything because I completely lost my appetite. My mom wanted a few more items, so we added three more to the table. In total, we had 12 dishes (she removed 2 earlier) but at the front, we were charged for 13. When I tried to dispute it, the same woman was once again rude and insisted on the charge. At that point, I just paid to avoid further confrontation. To summarize: * The cart staff were overly aggressive and deceptive. They need to wait for people to settle in before approaching. * The food was cold and subpar. This is not what I remembered the last time we visited. * Prices are steep -- $104 before tax and tip -- for mediocre food. And over charged an extra tray. * The customer service was one of the worst I've experienced. I later checked online and saw numerous similar complaints. Clearly, this is a pattern. I've been eating here for over 30 years. Food is consistently good. Service is quick for as long as you're positioned in the middle. Carts are moving the entire time. I'm usually here on the weekends and if you don't show up at the time it opens then you will have to be quick in getting the servers attention. My family lovingly calls this place "chaos". Over the years I've seen the prices go up significantly. Party of 7 with 2 of them under 6 is now costing me about $200. There you order through a menu. So it really is do you want the Eastern vs Western experience on dim-sum. Now on to the food, our usuals: * Football (the football shape one, that has chewy breading and meat inside). This is very good. * Hargow (shrimp in a transparent like rice paper) * Shrimp rice noodle (this is the flat white noodle, rice paper that has shrimp in between the folds and topped with sweet soy sauce). The beef is also a good one. But shrimp taste better * shrimp roll (looks like egg roll but it's all shrimp, deep fried) great but recently they cut down the size and portion given. * pork spare ribs * snow peas (comes in vegetables cart steamed and added with sweet soy sauce) * beef broccoli (similar to the snow peas) * Puto (you can't go wrong with this!) * Egg tart always made fresh and a nice way to end the meal * Shomai is shomai, nothing wrong with it but not for me * Congee (Rice Porridge with the small eggs and topped with wonton) This is the best after a night of partying and drinking or on a cold day. This has been my family's go-to dim sum spot for a long time. Whether it be for a celebration or introducing someone to dim sum for the first time. We love coming here for the consistency. Food - always pretty good. You get what you see. They almost always have what you're craving. Sometime quality lacks depending on what kind of day it is, but overall, I still love the place. The other day, The siomai was all steamed into one big piece, not separate. So trying to grab one was difficult. But that's me nitpicking for something to critique. Also, they do not do water glasses. They give you water bottles. Do they charge for it, I unfortunately do not know that. Also, sometimes food can be on a cart for a while and get cold when you get it. It's really a gamble. Service - Again, it's not fancy where you have a waiter. It's a Chinese restaurant where the staff yells to each other from across the room. It can get pretty loud. And the cart ladies either give you more attention than you'd like, or no attention at all and it takes for you to flag someone down to ask if they have what you're looking for. It's part of the experience. This is no Din Tai Fung. The restaurant itself is a bit dated, but I don't go in there expecting a Michelin star. Been here two different times and both times definitely hit the spot. Quickly too. Both times I went around opening with a couple family members so we were seated right away. And as quickly as we were seated, we were swarmed by carts full of delicious food. Not complaining since I come hungry. They have all the usual suspects, such as shrimp har gow, pork siu mai, congee, Chinese broccoli, turnip cake, fried shrimp balls, egg tarts, rice cakes, sesame balls, etc. I've tried a large amount of items from here and everything has been delicious. And we've ordered so much both times that I've had to bring a bunch of food home. My only thumbs down for this place is they only have bottled water as opposed to just free water in a glass. Food: SO GOOD. My family loves to go to dim sum and I want to say that lots of times I feel food coma really hard and it's really heavy. but here??? I felt so good and energized afterwards. But once we got everything we wanted we were left to enjoy our meal with occasional stop ins to check in and make sure we were doing well and if we needed anything else. 10/10 Ambiance: I love that this space was large and useful for all size parties. After hearing out a few suggestions we decided to give Great Seafood Harbor a try, and... it was not bad! Food: When it comes to dim sum, I will try (almost anything), and everything we did try was tasty! We had deep fried shrimp roll, Chinese broccoli in oyster sauce, salt and pepper crispy tofu, fried shrimp seaweed roll, baked BBQ pork buns, etc. It felt like it was a never ending parade of food, and we ate and ate until we could no more. Overall it was good, nothing that really stood out, but for sure was a nice solid dim sum meal. We also ordered some pan fried noodles, broccoli beef, and house fried rice, which were all good, but weren't needed with the variety of small plates that there is to be had. Restaurant: Inside it is quite spacious, and can accommodate larger groups. We have about 15 people so we were split into two different tables. Came here on a late Sunday morning and there was no wait which is always a plus when going for dimsum. The staff were pretty attentive and didn't feel like I was looking for staff. As for the food, I thought it was just alright. I felt like a lot of the steamed food was overcooked and baked food was too sweet for my taste. We went here for Mother's Day for dim sum and we walked in on workers yelling & a loud kitchen. Then as we were seated at our table, you could tell this place has been around forever as the Lazy Susan is very old and I even got a splinter spinning the Lazy Susan. Later on, we got our plates and my mother got a dirty plate. We tried ordering more food and the worker went straight up ignored us! We also asked for more sweet and sour sauce and the waiter just waved us off saying, "yeah yeah" but never came back! I finished my drink before our Lo Mein could even come! Do not go to this place! Dim sum noon time on a Wednesday. We got there around 1pm. I called the restaurant prior to going to the restaurant. The person I spoke with said dim sum ends at 3pm everyday. The last time I went there to ask for pricing, they said they do get a very large crowd on weekends. We went on a midweek and there were about 5 table when got there and few more tables after we got seated. Service was great. They do wheel carts for dim sum but one weird thing is that they will reheat the dim sum for you. The only thing I enjoy is the fried fish. The rest was mediocre. Shui Mai isn't chef made, it frozen bought from Chinese markets. You don't get to pick your flavor of tea. They just give whatever on the house. Charge $1 tea/person. $5-6 for basic dim sum and $7-10 for premium dim sum. It's not your typical dim sum like in the 626. But if you want your dim sum craving fix, come here. read more
