5+ One heads up -…read morethe Google maps address is incorrect for the park. I've submitted a location change request, but be aware that if you go to the Google maps location (as of 17 September 2020), you'll be beside the park rather than at the parking entrance. This is a beautiful farm park we happened upon while driving through Ohio on I-80. We highly recommend a stop and walk. There's Hügelkultur gardening! Nigerian goats! Beautiful trails! A stream! There are even bees! The bees are kept in a delightfully colorful apiary. So cute. I posted a photo. The bees were happily buzzing away on the chilly Fall day at happened in. We also took a trail to walk to the creek bank. It's a small, easy stream. The view of it from the balcony near the restrooms was relaxing and peaceful. As a bonus, if you're traveling through on the Interstate, it's a short detour and the bathrooms are impeccably clean. The nature center wasn't open (not sure why), but we didn't care. It was such a delight to find such a beautifully kept park that we didn't need to go inside a building.

This is another great National Parks site, and it has a wonderful location right in Put-in-Bay…read more There's a nice visitor's center with a great little exhibit space and a room where you can watch the site's 15 minute film that explains what happened in Perry's famous battle, the Battle of Lake Erie during the War of 1812, and why it was so important. The memorial is a nice walk from the center and requires paid timed tickets to enter and go to the top. It's open air once you get up there and, on a clear day, you can see miles around and get great views. The memorial itself is the largest Doric column in the world, and they had binoculars available to borrow at the top - with wipes to clean between uses. The rangers were friendly and very informative. We were also fortunate to see some costumed performers demonstrate how to use historic weapons - I think next time we'd ask in advance for the schedule, but the weapons are not quiet and caught our attention pretty quickly! "Don't give up the ship!"

Perry's monument is a giant 300-foot tall dangus that sticks up out of the middle of Put In Bay island. It's a memorial to a bunch of stuff from the war of 1812, but it's really just a nice location to feel the breeze and look at the lake and sit in the shade of the giant concrete dongus. If it were open, one could ride up and down in it, but it's still a peaceful area. There is a visitors center too for those of you into reading and learning about stuff.

These are in a circle around a chain statue, circled with a path, and are surrounded by beautiful landscaping. The gazebo is off to one side. There is a miniature lighthouse out by the street, and the park is fairly close to the waterfront. Restaurants and other businesses are nearby, and a free city parking lot across the street. We visited on a beautiful day, and enjoyed the park and memorial, reflecting on the history.
