Admission was $5 per person, and kids 5 and under were free. The volunteers were friendly and shared a brief but interesting history of the lighthouse and how it's been used over the years. Once inside, be ready for a bit of a climb as there are 77 narrow spiral steps leading up to an outdoor observation area. The view is worth it to see beautiful sights of Lake Erie. Even if it's not that clear of a day, you can still see Cedar Point and the Lake Erie islands in the distance. The park itself is very well maintained and offers easy access to the shoreline while still feeling safe and family-friendly. It's a peaceful place to sit, relax, and enjoy the lake breeze and sounds. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area.

However, they have added some nice bathrooms and more picnic tables. The giftshop and ability to climb up to the top of the tower is open seasonal. Check before you go if this is important to you. We like to stop at one of the 2 ice cream places close by and take a treat with us to sit and relax. It's a great place to people watch! I have witnessed quite a few wedding pictures being taken there over the years.

The paved trail makes it super easy for anyone to enjoy--perfect for a peaceful walk, birdwatching, or just soaking in some fresh air. It's quiet, full of wildlife, and there's always something new to catch your eye. One of my favorite parts is when the path opens up to the beach. You get this wide view of Lake Erie, and if you look out far enough, you'll spot the Cedar Point coasters in the distance. It's a cool little reminder of home--nature in front of you, thrill rides in the background. If you're up for a bit of a longer walk, you can follow the beach all the way down to the Point Retreat condos and back. It's a beautiful stretch along the water and gives you even more time to enjoy the lake breeze. And if you're a golf fan, the newly updated Sawmill Creek Golf Course runs right alongside the preserve. You might catch a few swings and even spot a bird or two between shots. Whether I'm home with family or just need a place to reset, Sheldon Marsh is always worth the visit. One of the best spots in Ohio, hands down.

These wetlands are remnants of the Great Black Swamp, which once covered an area 120 miles long and 30-40 miles wide. Nature enthusiasts enjoy viewing an abundance of waterfowl and shorebirds in the park's scenic wetlands, as well as from the swimming beach and picnic areas along the lake. Our family and Apache camper began a series of visits in 1967, and East Harbor has remained a favorite. Greatly enjoyed the beaches, which now have a three-foot stone barrier to prevent erosion. We visit year round. The surrounding area has become somewhat commercialized. Lots of campers and fisher folks. In our early visits, we discussed a holiday at the State Park rather than a trip to the Outer Banks or to Hilton Head... My dear wife observed that an annual Atlantic Ocean Beach holiday was elemental to our life style.

We came here with a group to hangout and enjoy some of what's one of the warmer nights here recently this was my first time coming here and I was surprised how big it was so much so I didn't even venture through all of it as there's a bunch of places to go here. They have 2 playgrounds from what I can see as well as some huge open grass areas for you to play some games on as well as run free to do whatever you like. There were also numerous covered areas for those group picnics everyone wants to have when it warms up a bit which is always awesome in its own fun way of summer living when it's that easy! The park was awesome in it's own way it's for that I'm sure I'll come back again at some point because who doesn't love a good park visit!

Osborn Park is a Sandusky/ Erie County staple. Last summer, my high school class held a 15 year reunion and the first place I suggested for a family picnic was Osborn Park. Shelter rental is really easy----and available online. The website shows availability for a month for all shelters, afternoon or evening slots. Prices remain unbelievably affordable---$33 for county residents, $43 for out-of-county (more for the enclosed shelter). It's nearly effortless to set up a picnic. The one drawback is that the fee is non-refundable if you cancel your event, though it might be transferable to another date. Nevertheless, if you are looking for to host a reunion (class or family), graduation party, etc., then I'd recommend Osborn Park. Plenty of seating in shelters, fields for games, courts for basketball or tennis and playgrounds. I can't imagine a Sandusky resident who hasn't been to Osborn Park. It's part of the community.
