My friends and I love to come to Main Street Beach to search for beach glass. We were trying to think of something to do since it's been a while since we have hung out. We decided to go one more time before the weather starts to get too cold for the year. I love walking the beach. It's so peaceful and enjoyable. Sometimes this beach gets pretty crowded over the summer. I have never stayed for a while to lay out and work on my tan. Occasionally there are some gross dead fish laying around and they smell really bad. All in all this is a go to place over the summer to search for beach glass.

After years of knowing about this spot, we finally got the chance to do a low-impact kayak rental…read more You pay and complete your waiver online ahead of time so you're ready to go when you arrive. I believe the young guys that helped us were named Jonah and Sam. Very helpful, strong and a good sense of humor for my cousin who wasn't the happiest camper in the entire world about the experience (kayaking was my idea). The prices are reasonable and they offer one or two hour rentals. We chose two hours because we knew we wanted to go slowly and take our time. If you can catch your rental at 4pm while pre-booking online, snag it! The river is fairly calm at that hour and it's an easy time to just float while out of the heat of the day. As a tall person, the kayak was comfortable enough for me and I appreciated the cup holder for my swell water bottle. I also recommend bringing a floating protector pouch for your phone and keys because you'll have the room for it in the kayak. Overall, a fun experience that everyone should try at least once! The Vermilion River is great people watching and has fun vantage points from the kayak.

We got kayaks for an hour and enjoyed our time on them. The river was busy with lots of fishing boats, but we were fine. The worker helped her out kayaks in and out of the water.

VYC is one of the oldest clubs in the area, I think its even pushing 80! Thankfully, it still looks great. The clubhouse is beautifully maintained and is a gorgeous event space. Some important things to note: there's no private pool or private restaurant at VYC, like most local area clubs. VYC is all about the quiet atmosphere, and its better that way. The indoor/outdoor seating areas of the clubhouse are great places to read, have a glass of wine and just enjoy the boats on the channel. VYC remains untouched by rowdy guests and excessive noise, which is a gem in itself. VYC embraces the vintage Commodore classiness of old-school Yacht Clubs. For guest docking, you can spend time at the VYC if your vessel is under 80 feet drawing 10 feet or less. Guests can have dock spots on the river wall or in temporarily vacant slips. If you're not a member, but looking for a charming town to dock and visit, definitely keep VYC on your shortlist!
