I love the smaller salon feeling that Jonathan's has, while still offering all the amenities of a larger salon. When the hair salons reopened, the salon Cate was originally working, really wasn't following the recommendations of the CDC and St Louis County guidelines. She wanted a safe place to work and a safe place for her clients to return too. So, she found Jonathan's. Let me repeat, I am so glad that she did. First off, I love how she cuts my hair. I prefer scissor cuts to a clipper with a snap comb attached, which so many use for a mans hair-cut. She takes the time to totally scissor my hair and only uses a clipper to trim up my neckline. We've had a professional relationship/friendship going on 15 years. Now, why I am so glad she moved. Jonathan's is really protective of their staff and clients. When you arrive, outside they have a table where you are required to spray the bottoms of your shoes with a sanitizer. Once you enter, if you don't have your own personal mask, they'll provide you one. They also, provide gloves for the clients to wear while in the salon. In addition to these protective measures, they sanitize the chairs and workstations in between each client. I feel totally safe! A bonus of coming here, is the other staff members. Second, I came in to get a bad color fixed from another salon and believe me when I say that she went above and beyond. I didn't expect much since it was in pretty bad shape coming in, but she blended it so well and did exactly what I wanted. Going back to the relaxing environment, at the shampoo bowl, I nodded off THREE times because I was so relaxed. THREE TIMES! That's never happened with uncomfortable shampoo bowls being at odd angles, but the bowl was what all shampoo bowls everywhere need to be! He listened to exactly what I wanted with cut and color, asked questions to make sure he and I both knew exactly what I was asking for, offered tips and recommendations, and taught me how to take best care of my hair. He truly knows what he is doing and he is extremely talented at bringing to life his art. I also really enjoy the atmosphere at the hair lab, as it's very moody and elegant and clean. The staff are extremely kind and helpful and it was pretty easy to make my appointment. The price is well worth the service as well. She actually understands the chemistry of color and how to take the color you have and make it the color you want. I can tell you from my experience with my last hair stylist that not everyone has this knowledge! She makes an effort to get continuing education to stay on top of new trends and techniques. I've been with her for over 15 years, so why not follow her. The reason I like Cate so much, is that she hand scissors my hair and only uses a clipper to trim up my neck line. So many stylist use clippers with attachments when doing a mans hair and I do not like that. To get a quality cut, my hair has to be cut with scissors. Why I said it was a primo location, it is located next to Louie and Sasha's, so you can have lunch or go to a relaxing Happy Hour. On the other side, you've got Kaldi's for a good cup of coffee.
