We moved into town recently and I started looking for a men's haircut. I made a few calls and was getting prices of $40 and $50, plus. By chance, I walked into Great Clips without calling. They took me in immediately, even though the place was busy. That's always a good sign. I met a confident, veteran Hairstylist named Sandy, who did a terrific job. We had a great conversation. She made suggestions and she listened to what I was looking for. When she was finished, I was very happy. Frankly, she did a better job than where I had been going. And, she did a better job than one other place in town that I had tried a few weeks ago. When we went to the register, she immediately rang up a Seniors Discount, from $27 to $20 dollars. That was appreciated. I asked for her hours, looking ahead to the future and left a nice tip. The place looked great, clean, fresh smelling and well lit. Of course, there's plenty of free parking. She told me I could "either get the haircut or not" and refused to check the code first. Went to get a cut on Sunday and was rudely greeted saying there is a 2 hour wait. I decided to sit and wait. Right after a white lady with granddaughter came in and were told the same thing and provided their information to come back in 2 hours, but the employee told them to sit and wait. In 5 minutes a chair opened up and the customer who came in after me was called. When I asked why I'm being skipped she replied you didn't tell me you are waiting! I went here about a week or so ago, and I have mixed feelings about my experience. The location was clean, bright, well-lit, and quite inviting. The staff people I encountered were friendly and upbeat. The prices were reasonable. I wound up with a fade-style haircut that was, to be honest, well done. The problem was that I didn't want a fade. I didn't ask for a fade. When asked how I did my hair, I didn't describe a fade. And I would have thought that anyone (especially a professional) should have been able to look at my hair and realize that I don't wear a fade. It felt like the stylist had a preconceived notion of how my hair should be, and just did that, no matter what I said. So I wound up with a cut I'm not fond of. As a father of five, It was the worst place I have ever taken one of my children. Never again, everyone in that place looks and acts very angry as if they were doing you a favor by cutting your hair. Woman with short hair and more masculine style of dress cut my sons hair. She was very curt. My son was very upset because the clippers were not sharp and were pulling his hair near his skull scarring from surgery. He cried due to the pain. Rather than problem solve or even ask if he was okay, she angrily walked to my husband in the waiting area and loudly complained to everyone that he couldn't sit still. I know my child and he is pleasant and isn't a fidgety kid. (I teach young children, so I know the difference.). Apparently my husband said he got her once before and she was rude then also. I came in looking to get a "Jennifer Lawrence" inspired pixie, but the girl who cut my hair did NOT deliver. The result was very choppy and uneven. I had to ask for the awkwardly too short bangs to be cut shorter (using a photo of Mia Farrow" as inspiration as J. Law hair was clearly not going to happen). I walked out, still not satisfied. I returned a few minutes later when I saw some very uneven spots. The other hairdresser "fixed" it, but when I got home, I saw spots that were still choppy and uneven. (I was told it was just an illusion based on my hair color) I had to go somewhere else to get it fixed, but even after getting it fixed, there are bald spots and chunks of hair missing. Do not use this location. Staff is extremely rude.. They will not take customers in order even if you did an online check-in. Not enough people working. We tried to check in at at 9:00 on a Saturdayand no one was there. We could not check in online because online check-in was down. We checked in when we arrived, but we were told ot was a three hour wait. My father and I got haircuts but they wanted my wife to wait for a wak-in. We tried to return and were very courteous but because my wife complained but the manager refused to serve us. read more

Good price for a decent hair cut, quick I have been going to this Great Clips since it was in Morris Plains, on Rt. 10. It moved to Denville in the Walgreens plaza, right near downtown. Nothing fancy about what they do, they are really not stylists nor do you book appointments way in advance for simple haircuts. They make their money on volume, not overpriced individual customer sessions. There is always lots of parking at this location. Personally I don't like planning getting a haircut a week or two in advance, I'm more impulsive, it depends on when I have time. So I use the online check-in feature which tells you what the wait is and lets you get on the waiting list when you leave your house. I used to think this was a marketing gimmick and maybe it is but today online check-in said there was a 10 minute wait, so I checked in. When I arrived, about 10 minutes later, there were lots of people waiting but my name was at the top of the list so I was called next. While I was having my hair cut someone walked in and was told the wait was at least an hour. Yikes, I guess there is value in checking in online! Great Clips keeps notes on the length you like, whether you prefer scissor or clipper cut and other details that one might not remember. They also have a reduced senior rate and often provide coupons for your next visit. All in all they do a decent job for a fair price and are convenient so I am sure to be back many times. read more

I signed up for a haircut 74 minute wait. When I checked 60 mins later it said 40 minute wait. I show up 40 mins later and they said "your spot must have timed out", we'll add you back to the list. The lobby was empty but someone else arrived after me, apparently their spot wasn't timed out and they got to go ahead of me, as would 90 minutes of people that weren't there. great clips should fix that messed up time out function otherwise they will keep losing customers. read more

I can't justify spending a fortune on a haircut. I've felt this way for awhile now. It's hair, it needs to be cut and I don't require anything fancy- just a clean salon, a sharp pair of scissors, and someone who knows how to use them. In my entire time on this earth thus far, I've really only had one nightmarish hair salon experience and that's when the stylist took it upon herself to dispose of my request for bangs "like the photo," and instead indulge her unsolicited creative whim to give me Cleopatra bangs. That was bad. Really bad. So so bad. Many tears, many weeks of growth to regain composure. Anyway, I had put off a haircut for an obscene amount of weeks and finally was left with no choice but to get those raggedy dead ends chopped off. I decided to try Great Clips. Good choice. Despite the client load, I was seen quickly by a sweet stylist, Christina, who got the job done for an excellent price. This salon is clean, they have a nice array of hair products, and they have a promo going on for Veterans as well, which I think is awesome. If you are searching for a no frills, clean salon with a pleasant staff, I recommend this place. I don't have the stomach for pretentious salons with pretentious stylists who charge an arm and a leg for a cut, so I am glad I found Great Clips in Denville. Plenty of parking and you can grab a bite at Moe's after your haircut if you fancy, since it's located in the same shopping plaza. Walgreens is there too! Convenient! read more

Horrible experience not just with the cut but subsequent customer service. My hair was cut uneven and they have not taken responsibility adequately and have made me work very hard to get any kind of compensation for it. Beware that stylists at the chairs may be very new and incompetent. I asked for the most basic of trims, 2-3 inches, and left with 6 inches off and uneven hair. read more

Don't suggest for anyone who has curly hair. I've come here two times in the past and both times I've been pretty disappointed by the results. It's nothing personal against the stylists, but I don't think the ones I've had have really understood curly hair. I've always been pretty specific about the length I want my hair to be when it's dry, and both times they've cut my hair to that length but without understanding that my curly hair shrinks when it dries so when I get home it ends up looking even shorter than what I had originally wanted. Again, while this is nothing personal against the stylists, I really suggest that curly-haired girls go get their hair cut somewhere else, or at least know what you're in for. read more

Went in to get my sons haircut yesterday. I was extremely disappointed by not only the cut but by the "stylist" Emma. She was very rude and even though she mentioned several times how long she has been cutting hair I feel she was inexperienced and wasn't even able to do an even buzz cut around his neck line and ears. We brought our boys (7 and 11) to get them a haircut. Not kid friendly at all. Attitude was negative. One of the stylists could not understand instructions and was rude. She was very uncooperative. I have always received a great haircut at this location. I've been going for the past 5 years or more. I keep my hair short so I am there often. Recently Sam has been my barber and now I get great haircuts and great conversation. Something something, great hair, great conversation, great clips. I could probably do a great slogan for them. My girlfriend and I needed haircuts she suggested this place saying Jennifer did a great job last time. I guess she changed locations but decided to get cut there anyway. I have been growing out my hair for over a year it's the 1st time I grew my hair. I told the woman there I still wanted it long but cleaned up a little. She said she'd take about an inch off. She took almost half the length of my hair away. Staff was curtious which is why I didn't give it a 1 star review. The same woman butchered my girlfriend's hair. This place is top notch. I come in every 3-4 weeks and I'm always taken care of. I've had Stacey and Jen handle my cuts a few times but this last time Kate was the one that helped me. She cleaned up my messy head of hair and made my beard look very professional. Her conversation skills and customer service were what you expect when you get something like your hair done. My boyfriend and I decided to get our hair trimmed so we came here. Now when we walked in and sat down we weren't greeted right away. Took about 5 minutes before this hairdresser named Nicole noticed us. So I checked in online under my name and she was just rude the entire time she was checking us in. And so we waited. And when it was finally our turn my boyfriend got Nicole and I got someone super nice and helpful (I didn't get her name I'm sorry). Now when my boyfriend was getting his hair cut I couldn't see what Nicole was actually doing to his hair. I over heard my boyfriend asking her if she took an inch off. She replied saying yes I took an inch off all around to make it even. So he was "done" and she walked into the back and was talking very loud and rudely about my boyfriend to her coworker. Really bad experience today. If there was a zero star option I would've checked it. I have been to his location before and unfortunately after today I will never go back. I checked in online, walked in and waited about 5 minutes before anyone acknowledged me. There were two stylists who were free and neither of them got up. Another stylist was checking someone in and i thought she could've said that someone would be right with me. Finally another stylist who was in the middle of cutting someone's hair checked me in. Then Emma who was free came up and took me back to her chair. She wasn't friendly, barely wet my hair and cut my long thick hair in about 5 minutes. Not sure if all of it was even cut. She didnt even check to make sure my face frame was even. She even practically yelled at me to keep my head straight. When she asked me to look in the mirror i still had all my hair in my face. I am sorry i left her a tip. She truly did not deserve it. Again, sadly i will never go back as i usually like great clips because they do exactly what i ask for. I felt very unwelcome today; almost like i was intruding on them. Emma was clearly annoyed.
