Update: The business responded after my original review and asked me to bring the vehicle back in. However, I had already given them multiple opportunities to address the issue. The vehicle was in their possession for over three weeks, and when it was returned, several of the same issues remained unresolved. I even brought it back the following day for an oil leak that was still not corrected. I have since obtained an independent inspection indicating that some of the services I was charged for were not performed or could not be verified, along with additional concerns identified after their repair. At this point, I am no longer comfortable returning the vehicle to the same shop and am pursuing formal complaints and small claims. Update: The business responded publicly asking me to reach out, however I have already contacted them multiple times (including emails sent on April 7 and April 10) and received no response. I am still waiting for a resolution. paid $3,087.65 for repairs that, according to a licensed mechanic's written inspection, were not completed. My vehicle was in the shop for over three weeks, and I was charged for a CV axle replacement, tire replacement, and tire services that were not actually performed. The vehicle is still leaking oil. They also missed repairs like the serpentine belt and wheel bearings. If said work was actually done they wouldn't have missed the wheel bearings, and serpentine belt while they had the engine apart and while apparently replacing the left front CV/axel. Which I would have happily paid for. I have reached out to the business to resolve this and have received no response. This has been an extremely frustrating and costly experience. When you walk into the waiting room, the smell of fresh coffee and cookies greets you. The lounge area has newspapers, reading material and a TV. As you glance around you notice a container of free snacks, fresh cookies and the password to their WiFi connection. A play area for children and a frig of soda and water for customers. It seems hard to believe you have come to Grease Monkey in Ruskin for an oil change or other car service they provide. Owners Joe and Mellisa Canfield set the standard for customer service and fair prices. From Kurt Beachler who greets you as you enter to the mechanic who will explain the service they provided you will join the list of satisfied customers who keep coming back. This location has been recognized for the service they provide as a wall of accolades and certificates of merit will attest to. I'm really disappointed to be writing this, because I used to think Grease Monkey was different and recommended them often. Unfortunately, this experience showed the same poor communication and shady practices I've seen at other auto shops. I originally brought my car in for an oil change and told them ahead of time that it was leaking oil. I was assured on the phone that they would look into it. After the oil change was completed, no one mentioned the leak until I asked while paying. Only then was I told it was the oil pan and that it could be fixed with sealant. I was quoted $292 (mostly labor) and specifically asked whether I would be charged for oil again since I had *just* paid for an oil change. I was told clearly that I would not be charged for additional oil. I called the next day and scheduled the repair. At no point was I told it would take more than the quoted two hours. However, when I dropped my car off at 8am for my scheduled appointment, I was suddenly told they needed to keep it overnight because they wouldn't get to it until the afternoon and the sealant wouldn't have enough time to set. This was never communicated in advance. I only agreed because I was assured the shuttle would pick me up at 9am the next morning and that my car would be ready. The next morning, the shuttle didn't arrive until 10am, and when I got to the shop, my car was not finished. When I voiced my frustration about the lack of communication, Kurt was dismissive. Then I was told my bill would be **over $500**, even though the original quote was $292 after tax. Kurt claimed the higher price was due to the oil change and attempted to charge me **labor for another oil change**, despite the fact that I had already paid for one and had specifically discussed this during the quote. Only after I pushed back did he remove the labor charge for the oil change, but the total was still more than $100 over the quoted amount. It was only *after* I challenged the price that I was told they had replaced the oil pan entirely because it was bent. I was never called to approve this change, my husband was not told when he called the night before, and I was never shown the old part or any photos. At that point, I was completely done and just paid the bill. Think twice before trusting this location. Poor communication, surprise charges, and dismissive customer service made this a frustrating and stressful experience. read more

The owner and employees are all very nice which makes me sad to write a bad review. I originally wrote a good review after visiting this location many times. However, after my last visit (oil change and overall inspection) i started driving and immediately noticed a weird sound. Eventually i just decided maybe it had always been there/ would go away. I decided to go to a different mechanic. After looking at my car they found that multiple parts were left loose under my hood and even a tool that was dropped and just left there. Unfortunately I thought I found a trustworthy place to take my car and I was wrong. Maybe I just had a bad mechanic that day but I don't think I'll be taking another chance on this place. read more

Took my car for an oil change, cost 152$ for synthetic with new air filter....left the take 5 and as we pulled out the check engine light came on. My husband said after a few minutes maybe it will go out. Nope! So I called them and they said it has nothing to do with the oil change! My engine light only came on after they changed the oil !!! After taking my car to another nearby franchise mechanic, I soon realized not all are created equal nor do they rarely look out for you. grease monkey is a place you can trust and count on. they fixed a problem caused by that other mechanic and were very quick. I don't remember his name but the front desk guy with the glasses hooked me up and made sure I got what I needed without any extra charge. he didn't try to upsell me on anything and didn't install a more expensive piece because "it was better". when they fixed my tire, the center cap for my wheel went missing and when I noticed it I mentioned it and it was lost. 30 mins after I left I get a call from him saying they found it. the honesty goes a long way in my book. Wow, just wow! The best customer service hands down! My car had an oil leak which we took to another shop. They said repaired and we paid $650, then had to return it two more times that week, so 3 in total. After the last time they said sorry it needs to go to the dealership otherwise it can't be fixed. Even after paying for repairs! After asking for recommendations we decided to take the chance on Grease Monkey vs the high cost at the dealership. Grease Monkey US Hwy 41, Ruskin, FL Grease Monkey of Ruskin, FL bought out and replaced "At Home Auto Care" of which I was a client. I am happy to report that the same professional service, automotive care, honesty, and Customer Centered Attitude/CCA is in place and functional at Grease Monkey, Ruskin, FL. I got to meet the Managing Owner/Joseph Canfield who took care of checking me in as I was the first customer of the day. My reason for their service was an oil change and I had a "soft" break pedal. Prior to going to the appointment, I checked on Google as to the time frame that brakes should last for my type of vehicle and found out that the working range was 30,000 -to- 70,000 miles as a rule of thumb. Given my wife said she thought the brakes were simply fine I advised Mr. Canfield that I would skip the brake inspection. Much to my surprise Mr. Canfield said there would be no charge to inspect the brakes and report their findings. Don, who is the Sr. Mechanic with the previous owner stayed with the new owner to the benefit of the clients. Dan has always been a straight shooter, besides providing the client what he found, he offers to physically show the client the problem and as all great mechanics do, advised if there are any safety issues and what it will take to fix the problem. It turned out that three of the four brakes were fine, but the right rear brake had an issue, which would not prevent us from using the vehicle but would become a problem down the road, as it were. We have an appointment to correct the brake issue and the parts are on order. The other item to note is the Courtesy Inspection that is done which covers over thirty checklist items and you are provided a URL so that you can view and download/print the inspection results. The "family" relaxed atmosphere remains in the waiting area and Ms. Patti who is the new receptionist continues the professionalism and friendliness that has always been demonstrated when checking in and when checking out.
