I was disappointment with my experience at the Orthopedic Walk In practice on Ensign Drive in Avon…read more After a clear shoulder injury and severe pain, conclusions were quickly jumped to and comparisons made to patients who are decades older than me, rather than on my actual history and symptoms. When I later had the follow up with the Orthopedic Physician, my concerns were again not fully heard, and the evaluation relied heavily on the PA's initial ( and incorrect) assumption, instead of reassessing my condition. Advanced imaging was initially refused, and I was sent to Physical Therapy. After months of limited improvement, imagining was finally ordered and showed that the initial assumption was wrong. Patients deserve to be listened to, have their concerns taken seriously, and to receive thoughtful, individualized care. Relying on age based comparisons and repeating unexamined assumptions can lead to delayed diagnosis, prolonged pain, and unnecessarily/ incorrect treatment.

I have been working with Dr. Martone since a bad car accident in 1997. After many problems with, at…read morethe time, a broken foot, but was never corrected by the acting Dr, martone explained that to fix a major problem would require surgery along with an exterior casing to hold the foot in place. This I underwent and as was promised, I encountered zero pain while having this casing in place for three months. Now in 2014, that foot still is in great shape and he was able to offer me the quality of life that all would expect. Because of this experience, I found myself here again to address a different issue that has now required the use of orthotics for my shoes. Dr martone is one of the best in the area and would hands down recommend him for any foot related issues.

However, when you need to go to one - it's good to know there are physician's like Dr. Steven Selden, an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in sports medicine, who are willing and able to put you back together and keep you moving forward. As an athlete himself, he knows that injuries however big or small can be earth shattering to his patients - whether they are sports enthusiasts or not. I have been seeking treatment with him for several years for various ailments - from several bouts of tendinitis to a more recent stress injury - and he has always been very caring and compassionate - answering all of my questions and concerns and taking the time to make sure I understate my diagnosis and treatment options. I have never felt rushed and always feel that I have received a thorough examination. Additionally, the staff at Orthopedic Associates of Central Connecticut, where he practices, have always worked at a level of professionalism that has not wavered even on my worse days. They see a variety of pain and suffering daily but have always been pleasant to me and others that I have seen them interact with while waiting to see Dr. Selden. I always hope that when I finally get a clean bill of heath that this will be the last time I will need to see Dr. Selden, but I am appreciative and comforted by the fact that if necessary, he will be there to get me back on the road - literally - to recovery

They are kind and compassionate, but most importantly, they are knowledgeable and patient. They exhaust all non invasive treatments before suggesting surgery - they truly want what's best for the patient. Even better is the fact most of the less invasive options (ablation, injections, etc) are done right in office, allowing for continuity of care and more expediency. I was a very anxious patient leading up to my surgery and my multiple repeated questions were answered with care and compassion. I had multiple visits with the surgeon (Dr. Eisler) before settling on surgery and feeling truly comfortable because of a less than optimal previous spine surgery (different dr). He was an active listener and participant in my care the entire time. He reassured me he would meet with as many times as necessary to make sure I felt comfortable and educated on my condition and needed surgery. I'm happy to say the majority of my pain is gone post surgery (4 months) and I have my life back. I can't thank Dr, Eisler and his team enough. My surgery went very well and the care I received at the surgery center was amazing. I went home the same day and was literally walking without any device just 4 days later. Of course there was the normal healing needed over a few weeks, but overall, even I was shocked how quickly I was up and about. They are so good about checking in, providing step by step instructions, both before and after, so I never felt lost or confused. Clearly, the employees are treated well and this must be a great place to work if everyone was this engaged. I came in with a year of severe heel pain and was awaiting the worst. Dr. Vander Poel came in and could not have had a better bedside manner. She quickly found what was wrong and it was a simple solution involving exercises and stretching. Following her direction, I was pain free in two days! I feel 10 years younger. If you have foot pain, come here. If you have to drive from elsewhere in the state, do it. They are that good.
