Gray's Disposal is the most dishonest, unreliable company I've ever dealt with. Unfortunately, since we were required to pay in advance for service, they now owe us reimbursement for months worth of pick ups that we didn't receive, despite us calling them on a weekly basis. We've recently spoken to an attorney about suing them. After reading through over a hundred bad reviews about Gray's Disposal on various platforms, the attorney has suggested a class action suit to recoup our losses. Absolutely Awful Experience If I could give zero stars, I would. Grey's is an absolute disaster--unreliable, unprofessional, and completely indifferent to their customers. Their service is inconsistent at best, and when they do show up, they somehow manage to make things worse. I've had missed pickups, trash left scattered around, and customer service that's as useful as a screen door on a submarine. Trying to get a response from them is like shouting into the void. I foolishly paid for the longest cycle of service for my first time with Gray's. I figured it would be less hassle to have to pay less often. My last trash company dissolved after picking up at this address for damn near twenty years. Every Tuesday at 10am. I figured that's how it goes. I was wrong. Each and every week with gray's, I had to call and remind them (I believe two ladies answer the phones and they are polite and no-nonsense and MUST get yelled at regularly for things beyond their control) I was a customer and that yes, my garbage has been out there all day. And all day yesterday. And it will be out there all weekend. Every week. They came and picked up their garbage can after my payment cycle ran out. The can was gone before a week was through. They came for that faster than any garbage pickup service they attempted. That's when I realized the cans are used. I thought I had done something unusual with my trash (besides leaving it out at the curb in the summer sun for two weeks because my new trash company gray's makes me beg for it every goddamn week like a trash pickup junkie) because the can smelled like sunny roadkill from the jump. I have never left a review before but i need to do it for this awful company. Previously i was with York Disposal there was a merger of some kind and now we are with Gray. Our trash used to get picked up twice a week. Now it get picked up ONCE EVERY OTHER MONTH. This is with me having to call them. Unfortunately i paid for 6 months of service and i cannot cancel. I've had them for about 4 years. I've had a couple times where I had issues with trash being picked up but most of the time it was. Definitely sucks everything has to be in a bag or box but it's understood on how they get it. So today I had my can along with boxes outside. I'll attach a picture as how it was left. The trash got taken out of the can but the boxes left there. I've emailed the company along with called. She informed me she would get someone back out to the house. They were very good for 5 + years. About 6 weeks ago they started skipping our pick up. I called every week and they would say they would come pick up our trash. They did sometimes and other times they did not. Gray's has a billing system where you pay in advance. That should have been a red flag for me. Sadly, we have paid through April, but will cut our loses and move on to another service. I would not recommend them to anyone! We have used Gray's Disposal for 30 years at our Nashville home. We have never had a problem with pickup, their collectors have always been the nicest guys, they are reliable and as one review said will try to accommodate a special situation which otherwise would require a trip to the dump. I have paid for trash service to be picked up weekly. Since the start my trash has never been picked up weekly or on time without my having to call several times. It's the worst trash service or lack thereof of any kind of service whatsoever. The lady who answers the phone could care less and sounds as though I am bothering her when I am merely calling to get them to do whet they have been paid up front to do! I have had trash service with Republic and I never had any problems such as this so even though they went up significantly on their rate I would rather pay for a reliable company that is coming out to pick up rather than never coming out. The trash can is full up to the top because they haven't picked up the trash for 3-4 weeks. I usually only have one small bag. So sad they can be in business taking payments and not concerned about customers at all. I am waiting for them to come pick up their can and be done with them. If I can give 0 stars that would be more deserving. There garbage man on a route said he will start collecting my trash for 20$. He did that 1 time but burned me after that. Never got my trash. I got ahold of there office to get a can and get set up, but they never dropped off a garbage can or got my trash. A month later, still no can, I get a bill for 115$ when they never did anything. This company is a joke for Trash pickup. They have a flatbed truck that some random guys come by and throw trash up into the bed of the truck. For starters they will leave items in your trash can every time. And now, I have been waiting on a refund for the services because they were missing my pickup weekly. We have used Gray's for many years. At first everything went smooth. Starting this year it has been a hassle every week. Our pickup is missed then we have to call on a daily basis to get picked up. The final straw was this week. Our pickup was missed three weeks in a row. We finalized the sale of our house. We had extra trash from cleaning out for the move. I am so embarrassed that our buyers have had to clean up. Our agent got a handyman to pick up the mess. Cost us an additional $55. These guys are absolutely terrible, I started my times with them by being scammed by one of their haulers who was taking money for herself on the side. Did not learn of this until I had to start complaining that they weren't picking up the trash. So I hired them properly and they started off ok. Dependable？What a joke! I have no choice as this is the company that our HOA uses. For those of you who can choose your service provider, STAY AWAY from this company. I always have my trash containers out the night before pickup day. This week they just ignored mine when picking up the trash in our community. The person who answered the phone kept lying to me that they will come back but they never showed up. Plus, it is really difficult for the call to go through, and when it did they put you on hold for a long time. Also, if you have anything in odd shape such as a HVAC filter that is not bagged in the container, they won't take it as they handled trash by hand, not with a truck that lifts and empties the container. I should have read the Yelp reviews before paying for 6 months of service with this company. We are a family of 6 1/2 - my daughter is pregnant, with 2 in diapers. We've had this company's service for about 6 weeks now, and this is the third time I've had to call to remind them to pick up our trash. My daughter told me she once saw them picking the trash out of the bin by hand, and tossing it into a panel truck. The owners should be ashamed of doing business with such lack of consideration for both their employees and customers. Granted, people choose their jobs and are free to find other work, but hiring people to hand pick trash out of bins, rather than investing in equipment that can at least be dumped into a truck, without an employee having to stick his or her face inside a filthy trash bin, is beyond reprehensible. I plan on canceling my service and requesting a refund. I refuse to support a company that treats both its customers and employees so horribly. UPDATE - 10/15/15: I called Gray's Disposal this past Monday, 10/12/15, to cancel my service. At that time, I told them I wanted their trash can removed from my property immediately, as I have hired another trash disposal company, and Gray's can was blocking my driveway. I have been calling them daily to remove their can, because they kept telling me they didn't know when they would be able to remove the can. Today they told me they would pick it up sometime this weekend, and I let them know that was not acceptable and they had to remove it from my property today. I used Gray's Disposal for about 6 months. They will ONLY pickup trash that's left in bags in their cans and will make no allowances for those of us that are disabled. I'm in a wheelchair and their cans are the tallest that I've seen, making it difficult to get a full bag into the can, forcing me to use 1/2 empty bags. They claim to offer junk removal on their website, but when I called to see about getting some stuff picked up their answer was that I'd have to take it Williamson County, I live in Rutherford County. Their bills are so convoluted that you never know what you owe. I discontinued my service with them over a month and a half ago and after numerous phone calls have been unable to receive a final bill, plus their can still sits at the end of my driveway awaiting them to pick it up. Dealing with Gray's has been the literal worst experience. After using them now for over one year, I have had to call repeatedly to have my trash picked up, which happens MAYBE twice a month at most. Upon initially calling them, it took them TWO MONTHS to even drop the can. I had paid the year in full for 2020 and about 1 month ago after not having the trash picked up for 4 weeks now, not only did they not pick up my trash, they took the can away...and EVERY time I call, no one has ever called me back, apologized or refunded my money. I live in a condo community serviced by Gray's disposal, and they are unpredictable and fickle. They are scheduled to pick up trash Monday and Thursday. They didn't pick up my trash on Thursday; I thought, "Okay, maybe it wasn't enough. They'll get it Monday." Well, it's Monday and no trash pickup, despite my calls to my property manager and Gray's. And you know what's the best part? They took the trash from my neighbors! I have my trash packed into one large trash bag, so they can't complain about fishing out a bunch of little bags. PILES OF TRASH: Gray's Disposal used to be a little less than other garbage pickups, but that is no longer the case as they have raised prices recently. Although I always had erratic service, they hit a new low last holiday season when my trash was not picked up from Thanksgiving until after the New Year leaving piles of garbage at Christmas that my multiple calls could not get hauled away. I had to repackage my trash bags into boxes to try to keep critters out and to make neater piles around my trash can while I called and called to no avail. I had paid a quarter in advance for the service, so there was no excuse for them leaving that trash for so long. Yes, I have photos of the mess they left me with for over 2 months. HAULED AN ANTIQUE CABINET AWAY: Then in May of 2013, they hauled away my mother's antique Electrolized-Electroweld storage cabinet which was NOT sitting next to the trash but was near the sidewalk to my back door while I made room for it in my utility room. I called right away as soon as I saw it was gone and asked that it be returned, but for whatever reason, Grays Disposal could not or would not return this valuable antique. GRAYS HAS OWED ME MONEY FOR 8 MONTHS: For eight months Mr. Gray kept promising he would reimburse me for the cabinet his men took and that "the check is going in the mail next week" but 8 months later, he had only sent me a little less than half the money he owes. Now I can't get him to return my calls and emails asking where the other half is and when he intends to pay me back. MORE PILES OF TRASH THIS HOLIDAY: In the meantime, this holiday season his men once again gave themselves several weeks off where trash ended up piled on and next to the trash can again. NO CUSTOMER SERVICE: I agree with James K's review. There is no customer service here. And Grays was hauling trash in the 1970s when Mr. Gray's father or grandfather, Albert Gray ran the company. My family used them back then, which is why I bent over backwards to try to be patient about the 8-month loan he has given himself of money he owes me. Gray's Disposal in Nashville is a company which should know better, but which apparently just doesn't care about customer service. STILL BILLING ME: It is now Feb. 6, 2014, and although Edwin Gray still has not mailed me the rest of the money that he assured me was going in the mail a week ago, he sent me another bill that runs through May 2014 for a "service" I canceled the end of Dec. 2013 (after they missed several more pickups) and should have canceled in May 2013. They ONLY take garbage that's in a trash bag. This is ridiculous. You're a trash company.
