My family brought our dog here in an emergency situation because he was passing blood. We were…read morealready very anxious since we had lost another dog just a few months ago. Unfortunately, instead of compassion, we were met with rudeness and judgment. The staff member we spoke with was dismissive, belittling, and even brought up our recently deceased dog in a very insensitive tone. On top of that, she made a remark along the lines of "I don't know how people can have dogs when they can't pay for their vet bill," which was incredibly hurtful and unprofessional. Emergencies happen, and families deserve empathy not criticism when they're trying to care for a beloved pet. Most of the staff here were kind and professional, but unfortunately our experience was ruined by the receptionist. we were met with insensitivity and judgment, which made an already difficult situation so much harder. I'm deeply disappointed by the lack of compassion shown during such a stressful time. Pet owners go to the vet hoping for help and kindness, not to be shamed.

We've taken 5 different pets to this clinic over 8 years & recently changed vets because they gave…read moreus an estimate for a sedated x-ray on our dog, then a little over 30 days later almost doubled that estimate with no legitimate explanation or attempt to make this right. The "customer service" rep I spoke to was condescending, disrespectful & made no attempt to salvage our long standing relationship with this clinic. When I asked for valid reasons why the estimate had gone up, I was told "this is our policy" & that the original estimate was "probably wrong". When I asked for a call back from someone more knowledgeable who could explain/justify each increase on the higher estimate, that request was not honored. I was honestly shocked & hugely disappointed by this interaction as we have always had positive experiences with this clinic, but I have since been told that they are very expensive compared to other vets in the area & it truly seemed that they were just trying to make more money from my pets injury. Unfortunately, this negative experience coupled with no attempt to make this right has erased anything positive I could say. If cost or ethics are of no concern to you, then I highly recommend them, but if fair pricing & respectful customer service for you & your pet family members matter then you should go elsewhere. They've lost a loyal client.

They did not tell me the cost upfront and when I questioned it management said that I should let them know how much money I have when I come in instead of them telling me what things cost before they do them. That felt offensive to me. Beware when dealing with management and always ask for detailed cost upfront. Ultimately, my advice is to go somewhere else. I have read other reviews like this about them so I guess I'm not the only one, I agree with Joseph O, very similar experience.

They are also less expensive (most likely due to location) then my previous veterinary clinic in Portland, Brackett St. When you have 4 pets, like I do, the additional money for a check up tends to add up. The interactions I've had with these vets are amazing. Most recently, my dog needed a tumor removed. On the day of the surgery they found an issue with the rhythm of her heart. They stopped, decided to wait and give her a round of antibiotics, and are doing a less invasive round of anesthesia as they move forward. I couldn't have been happier with the way these folks handled my pets and their care. I wouldn't hesitate to tell anyone to drive to get to these folks.

They love the animals and treat them well. Instructions for any follow up care are always clear. I will say they may be a little more expensive than other vets, but for us, the convenience of being near-by and friendly service outweighs a few bucks here and there. I also think it's important people understand the cost of owning a pet so I don't focus on that.

This is just appreciation review for Casco Bay Veterinary Hospital. We had a pet emergency, and while we chose to go somewhere else, the Casco Bay folks were so lovely and compassionate, they initially couldn't help us (their exotic animals vet was in surgery all day) but gave us recommendations on who else in Maine could (both in Kennebunk: Southern Maine Hospital for Small Animals [but they don't do emergencies and aren't open on weekends]; Angelus Urgent Veterinary Care [scheduled appointments for emergencies usually starting at 2pm; and, open weekends]). When none of them could help us, the Casco Bay staff rearranged some things to make it possible for us to drop our pet off so the exotic animals vet could see him when they had time. They were action-oriented, they were patient, they were kind when we had spent twelve plus hours trying to find a vet to help us in a dire situation. Almost NO VET in Maine will see a rabbit anymore, but Casco Bay does. Such a huge relief to know that they're a reliable place that genuinely cares (even when they've never met you before).

We had our appointment today and both Courtney and Joe out front were lovely! We were brought in and a nurse did a quick once over with my little girl, Cookie, before Dr. Ring came in. The whole appointment was very efficient but very friendly and well done. They gave my cat a very calm and safe environment in which she only once got feisty (and, I mean, if you were putting things up my butt to check some glands, I might also have some opinions on that so... ya know, fair!) No question I asked was considered stupid or treated less than anyone with years more experience as a cat owner. I was made to feel like I'm giving her a good home and doing a great job taking care of her. I'm extremely pleased with the appointment and the staff. At the end of the day, everything was roughly $230 but I was given an itemized bill at the end and, honestly, the pricing felt very fair. I know my little old lady will be in good hands here.
