Happened to walk by last week and saw they had an anniversary sale. Tons of great selection and tons of brands I've never heard of. It was clean and organized but be prepared to pay $200-$1000 for a pair of shoes here depending on what brand you pick. The two stars fully comes from customer service. When I walked into to purchase, I wasn't greeted, told about the sale further. No one approached me until I was putting a shoe on my foot, that's when I had someone come over to act like I was important (keep in mind the store wasn't busy either and there were probably 5 employees working). The woman offered to order them for me from BC since my size wasn't in. Fast forward 5 days and my shoes are in, I walk in with my proof of purchase in hand. Again, store isn't too busy, lots of staff. I went right to the front counter and waited to pick up my order. A staff member comes up to ring out a customer waiting to pay.. After she rings her through she completely walked away and left me standing there clearly needing help. I literally had to almost wave a hand in her face and be like "can someone help me pick up the shoes I ordered and PAID for". Overall super bad customer service. read more

I've been going to Gravity Pope for a long time and 15 years ago, this was a very different store. They used to focus more on very casual fashion. When I was a teenager, I bought a Smurf "boozy" shirt here. (Those were the days.) But over the years, their fashion has become more edgy, funky, and expensive. Gravity Pope now focuses mostly on shoes, and they have grown to have the largest and best selection for funky, stylish, and just plain awesome shoes in the entire city. Their selection is wide, from very casual to very classy. I think that most anyone, both men and women, who walks in here can tap into their personal style. Most of their shoes are very expensive and not really affordable for me. Not that it matters anyway, because I wear size 11.5, and they very rarely carry anything in this size for women. This annoys me, because I know that a lot of the brands they carry have up to size 12. I actually emailed GP's manager about this, but it was like he didn't even know. Even so, they have a nice selection of unisex sneakers like Converse and Pony. Where I first saw odd, intricate European shoes as well as quirky American brands. I had gone into Gravity Pope many times over the years without even realizing it. I've never been all that shoe crazy so going into a shoe store would seem like any other shoe store. But after having surgery on both feet two years ago & years of chronic back pain, I had been on the hunt for shoes I could actually tolerate wearing for any period of time. I have had a heck of a time even finding shoes to fit on my wider-than-a-shoe-models feet so when I discovered Merrell Barefoot shoes, I was in love. Finally, a line of shoes that fit AND are comfortable. I found one pair in the mall...not the ones I wanted but seeing as I couldn't seem to find much for selection ANYWHERE, I settled. Not the shoes I saw online & wanted so very badly but couldn't get them because I had no idea how to get shoes that seemed were only available in the states, just another pair that fit & were comfy enough. My mother saw Gravity Pope featured on the news & told me about it right away. I went online to check them out & saw their website had tons of Merrell shoes. The most selection/variety I have seen in all my searching. Then, I saw them. THE shoes. Staring me straight in the face. Naturally, I went straight into Edmonton to check them out & try them on. Once I got there I was overwhelmed with how many different styles & brands they have just in the one store. Yes, I've been there before but never past the halfway point of the store. I found what I was looking for & was approached to see if I needed a hand. The guy that helped me was great. Very helpful & well informed. He made sure they were fitting the way they were supposed to. Tall, slender guy with kind of curly-ish hair, I thank you. He spent the time with me to help me find what I wanted & there was no pressure to buy. I did end up with the shoes I always wanted as well as another pair of Merrell's. One week later the buckle broke on my Power Play Gloves. I was pretty bummed. After reading some reviews, I wasn't sure what to expect. I brought them back to Gravity where I was told their shoe repairman would take a look at them & replace or repair the damaged piece and I would get them about a week later. A couple days later I got a voicemail which told me unfortunately the couldn't track down the damaged part...All I could think was,"well now what am I supposed to do??" The message continued on with "But fortunately". They would replace my damaged shoes with a new pair. I was elated. I picked them up last night & couldn't be happier with the great customer service I received. Thank you Stephanie for everything. You are a great manager. Also thanks to the gentleman at the door who let me into the private shopping party so I could pick up my shoes. I look forward to shopping there again! I have been to gravitypope many times over the years as it has evolved from a single store to a chain. I have always found that there is good customer service and a wide selection of choices. As an avid purchaser of converse and vans, I have found nowhere else that has as many options as gravitypope at the same prices you would find elsewhere (except maybe online and when you are between sizes like I am that is never a good option). I also like seeing some of their more unique items and sales as they often make some very high quality shoes affordable to your average person. How could you not, with row upon row of cool footwear with label names like John Fluvog, Kenneth Cole, Moma, Joe Sanchez, Michael Kors, Paul Smith and Steve Madden. Be prepared to pay top dollar for feet that make a statement - like the new Paul Smith buckle boot for $595. They're not all that expensive. You can get a stylish pair of pumps for just over $100, or less, if you hit a season's-end clearance sale. I saw a gorgeous pair of summer open toe shoes for $80, but that doesn't help me with fall shopping. Gravity Pope also carries Uggs, if you want to join the bandwagon sporting designer treads from Down-Under. I rarely stop into Gravity Pope because I don't make as much money as Oprah and that is how high their prices are. OK, not quite that high, but they are freaking expensive. When I do stop in, I always enjoy browsing because they have some really funky and unique shoes. Being a shoe addict, I can appreciate a nice pair of shoes, regardless of whether I can afford them or not. The staff is always nice and I'm never hesitant to approach them. They are friendly so it makes it easy. I've never been in for a big sale but the smaller sales I've seen did not impress me. 10% off of $300 is not going to make any difference. Me and my gf went into the Queen west store last week, and there were two other couples, one couple was white and the other was Asian. I saw the staff clearly heard the Asian couples who were calling them, but they continuously ignored the couples The Asian lady even walked up to them, and tried to get help. So I actually posted a negative review on Gravity Pope's Facebook page and they deleted it the next day. I ordered a pair of John Fluevog Mariana boots online and my order shipped from the Edmonton store. The boots I received were worn-- the leather soles had indentations and faded areas. There were spots of a gummy residue over the boots, a small scuff and faint creases in the leather. I debated whether or not to return them but it seemed like such a hassle that ultimately I decided not to. *Update* Since advising GravityPope of my review, they reached out and worked with me to address the above with a satisfactory resolution. The customer service I received during this time was good, which as prompted me to increase the star rating from one to three. Based on this experience, I would consider shopping with them again. read more

It's been several long years since I've been here. There was a time that it was mainly a doc martin shop... or so I remember. These past week, I've been here twice. Both times the service has been friendly & helpful regardless of the number of customers in the premises. The shoes & boots are uniquely amazing and of great quality. The prices are extremely high $$$$ so not for the faint of heart on a budget. GP does carry familiar brands like Converse, Vans, Tom Tom which are priced like everywhere else. I finally bought something here today, as I wanted a pair of leather Converse black high-tops after both of my pairs of desert boots expired last week. I know - first world problems - but I needed shoes, Gravity Pope had what I wanted, and the price was reasonable. I found the service good as well, although it took a while for a sales associate to approach me. It was busy though, so I cut them some slack. Gravity Pope is a classic haunt on Whyte Ave, offering a wide range of footwear from Fluevog (my favourite!) to more avant-garde styles by Trippen. I love to visit Gravity Pope. It's a beautiful space, and the shoes offered are beautiful. The staff are sometimes helpful, but other times congregate at the counter and stare at you silently as you shop: awkward. Prices are pretty standard for the offerings in store (and the price ranges for the product lines vary hugely), but sales frequently take place that knock down the prices a bit. I find that the manufacturer sales (i.e. Fluevog) are more aggressive and yield better deals, and Gravity Pope's conservative sales often leads to stock collecting dust on the shelf for quite a while. Get old stock out the door, guys! Ultimately, if you're wandering down Whyte Ave, Gravity Pope is always an awesome place to check out eye candy for your tootsies. Bring your wallet! read more

Gravity Pope! Listen up! Your staff need a serious lesson in customer service, or just generally how to be nice people. I stopped going to GP a few years ago after having a really terrible experience, but recently thought I would give it another try. I am not sure who I was trying to kid thinking that they had changed - but it was clear from the moment I stepped in there that things hadn't. All the staff were huddled around the counter chatting, not one of them looked up to acknowledge me. I browsed the front of the store for a minute or so and went to head to the back to look at boots. I was not even a FOOT away from the group as I walked passed and still not even a glance in my direction. I was already fed up at that point, but looked at the sale rack anyways. It was there that I noticed 2 pairs of Camper flats that I had seen before online and really, really liked. They were both my size and they were both only $60 each from $200. I was seriously ready right then to just buy both of them. I knew they would fit- I just needed someone to actually do their job and assist me to get the other pairs. I had both shoes in my hands, stood at the back of the store staring in the direction of the sales people. A girl then looked up at me and CLEARLY saw I was holding the shoes and needed help but just turned and carried on with her conversation. Furious. I was FURIOUS. I am not a confrontational person and just don't have the man parts to call them out on it in person but I dropped the shoes and just stormed out. I am angry at them, and angry that I thought they had changed. It's a shame too, because I would gladly give my money to Campers, but not if it has to go through Gravity Pope first. read more

Sorry not sorry about the one star. Your customer service is horrible. Try this: smile. Say "hi, can I help you?" Then bring the shoes. Open the box. Take the shoe out and take out the stuffing and untie the laces. Ask me if I want a stocking. Then hand me the shoe and ask me "how does it fit?" Then get the other shoe or another size. Hey, you've made a sale!!! Good job. What really happens at Gravity Pope: look at me like I am a dirty homeless slob. Ignore me when I want to try something on. Finally when I approach you, go into the back for the shoes. Shove the box at me and back away 5 feet to stare at me fumble with a box and inserts and laces and ignore me. Congratulations! You are consistently rude, standoffish, snooty and not cool. That tells me you want maximum input $$$$ for minimum output. If I am paying $700-300 for a pair of Trippens or Chie Mihara or Frye I deserve to be treated with a small amount of politeness and friendly service. Why not just let customers go into the back and get the shoes themselves and save some staff wages? You're almost there already. read more

Wow. I can't begin to share how much trouble I have had shopping at Gravity Pope this year. It was my first time purchasing a pair of shoes through this shop, and I must say, I will NEVER darken the doorway of this shop again. It was not a good experience at all. I had to return a pair of boots, because they did not fit properly. These boots had taken forever for GP to order in for me, and the salesperson, when I went to try them on, had very little knowledge about the boot, the fit, or the company. After many phone calls with GP, and bringing the boots in to have them assessed, the store finally conceded to returning the boots, and allowed me to exchange for a pair of boots of my choice. It took nearly a month to get a new pair of boots (Fluevogs) to replace the ones that I returned. I felt frustrated that I had to go through all that, but was happy to have a pair of boots that finally would fit and that I could be excited about. And then..the soles on my new Fluevog boots began to separate after 2 months, and I took them to GP to get some advice, and ask them what they could do to help me fix this so i could continue to wear my boots. I was told to bring the boots in, and they would have a cobbler take a look at them. By this time, i was more than frustrated- I was in search of a solution. The boots were $400, and this was unacceptable. I followed through, to my boots to GP to have the cobbler look at them on a Saturday. I phoned them a few days later, to check in on the status of the boots. I was first told they did not have them in the shop- the cobbler had them still. This was on the following Thursday I called. I phoned again that weekend, and was told to come and pick them up. When I got to GP, I was told that the boots had never gone to the cobblers, that he had looked at them in the store and said "they were fine" and the separation would not be a problem at all. I was irrate. I knew there was something wrong with the soles, and that I was not being paranoid. Other trusted friends of mine had looked at them, and reassured me that I was not making this up. A couple weeks later, after wearing the boots a few times, i realized the separation was getting worse and I needed something to be done, or they might become unwearable. I emailed GP asking for help, again, even though I was tired honestly of feeling like a complainer. I didn't receive an email back, until a week or so later, and by that time, I had already called Fluevog directly, and they were glad to help find a solution for me. I will never shop at GP again, and will advise others not to as well. I felt like I was bothering them with the things I was concerned about. The staff were not knowledgable about the two styles of boots I purchased, and I felt like I was being patronized when I went into the store to share my concerns with them, and ask for something to be done. Really?! This is sad. Your shoes are expensive, and that alone should guarantee better service. I expect alot when I am paying for quality, and I am disappointed and frustrated that this was not my experience. read more

It is great that this store is still going strong, but I feel they need to step up their quality of their online service. If a customer has ordered something, they should check to see if he or she has any questions for them to answer that are included in the order or in emails BEFORE actually processing the order. Thanks to Britaney, I was reminded of the great sale of Nov 11,2010 in which I made my wife wait in line for their temp. outlet store for about 2 hours in cooler temps. I seen mothers make their little toddlers wait so I knew this store must be good. I had never been in this store before so I just went in the line, because it seemed like the cool thing to do on whyte that day. I work alot of trade like shows and have been getting sore feet in my old age of 40 something. Well, I found a pair half off for about 80 dollars. WOW, my feet make love in these shoes! My wife found a pair of boots here that she loved, but as per most items in the store, they were pricey ($700). She tried on a couple of pairs. The size 8 was too big and she knew she'd get blisters. She asked for a 7 1/2 and were told that they only came in full sizes. The size 7 was a little too small but she thought she could live with them. She wavered, wishing that they came in 7 1/2, but the salesperson insisted they only came in full sizes. Eventually she bought them b/c she knew this was the only place to get this brand of boots. Several weeks later we found out the salesperson lied to us to get the sale and that my wife could have got them in a half size. I know it's an expensive shoe store, but I don't appreciate liars at any retail business, or the stores that employ them. read more

It appears that Gravity Pope is the only store that carries John Fluevog's shoes in Edmonton. (I love them for comfort and style) Buying shoes online isn't my thing since I have got wide feet, plus having to budget for shipping isn't my idea of fun. Being able to pre-shop to see what's in their inventory online really helps narrow my search ahead of time; it gears me away from getting disappointed when they don't have a favourite style in stock. Comfort is my main tipping point when it comes to shoes; no matter how cute they are, if they will kill my feet, I won't wear them. I'm at the stage where I'd rather have very few good shoes for the office/dancing that would last almost forever, rather than having disposable ones that needs repair after a year or two. (I hate shoe shopping) My most favourite sale from Gravity Pope was their "Buy a sales pair and get the second pair for a penny". A win-win for both the customer and for the store. read more

I am not a regular Gravity Pope shopper, I just step into the store occasionally out of curiousity. I know that many hip and trendy Edmontonians consider Gravity Pope a shoe heaven and I can see why - never in my life have I seen so many unusual and funky pairs of shoes. The selection of both women's and men's footwear is fantastic. Having said that, I cannot give Gravity Pope more than three stars out of five for two reasons - the prices are too high, and the shoes are too "unique-looking". If I am willing to pay $500 for a pair of shoes, I would much rather prefer these shoes to look classic and be of timeless beauty (i.e. Prada). Ironically, I liked Gravity Pope's selection of men's shoes a lot better than their selection of women's shoes. The former seem to look more classic and toned down. My mind boggled when I picked up a pair of women's shoes (I wish I could remember the brand), checked a price tag and saw $1200. This price tag still haunts me in my sleep! I checked out some of the brands Gravity Pope carries, and here are some I remember: Calvin Klein, Michael Kors, Kenneth Cole, Fillipa K, Camper, Patagonia and Tracey Neuls. The shoes here are really chic, but I feel like most of their stuff is over priced. It's a trendy little boutique on whyte and I love wandering in whenever I'm in the neighbourhood. They have a decent sized sale rack which makes me very happy. This shop seems to be busy but the staff seem to be scarce. read more

The shoes are amazing, and the selection is hard to beat. The only way to get them is by practically forcing yourself on the staff though. There's something to be said for not being pushy with your customers, but ignoring them all together is a big no-no. Multiple times I've been standing in the middle of the store, shoe selections in hand for what I want to try on and completely unable to get any of the staff's attention. One time my mother and I were the only customers there, both with shoes pulled off the shelf and the staff were at the cash desk, standing closed-off to us and chatting. We had been in there looking for 20 minutes, and had yet to be even be welcomed. Again, I totally get not being pushy and in your customers faces as I work in retail myself, but ignoring people prepared to spend a couple hundred dollars on your product is a poor sales tactic. After one of them walked right between us without stopping to help us find sizes, we walked out. That was the third and final time I was ignored in this store. I would rather go to another city to find the shoe brands I want than spend anymore money here. Never again. read more

Terrible customer service. Tried to exchange an item, I was given a code to return, and the return was rejected. Spent more than the item trying to return twice, both times rejected despite being given a return authorization number. Their customer service team informed me that they would reimburse me cost of returning item but continued, knowingly, to refuse acceptance of item. No offer to help, just curt rudeness. Never experienced anything like it. read more
