Extremely impressed by this place...being from Las Vegas, NV, it is hard to keep up with my elevated palate...but this place really made it happen. Daughter and son in law wanted us to check this out, so we went on a Thursday evening. We ordered some local beer and tried the fried ravioli as a starter. This was very well done and tasted very good. The cheese wheel pasta was what we all ordered for dinner...Hub and I split a portion and I found it to be quite generous. They rolled the wheel up and talked about the 600 days old cheese...gave us a quick tasting and then started the presentation on scrapping the cheese and turning the fresh made pasta in the wheel. They finished off a quick fresh cracked pepper. This dish is simply amazing and the price point blew me away at only 28 dollars. What a bargain. I may never be back as I rarely come to Michigan, but I will say this is a memorable meal. They definitely do not rush your experience, so expect a longer dining experience. Visited Gratzi while in Midland seeing family and really enjoyed the food--it was delicious, and the downtown location is great. The bartender was amazing, super friendly, and took great care of us. My only issue was being told they were packed and having to sit at the bar with the kids, even though there were plenty of open tables the whole time we were there. Still, the food and service made it a good experience overall. Definitely a spot worth trying, and I'll be back to give it another shot. read more

We went on Saturday for my daughter's birthday and we were glad we had reservations. The dining room filled up quickly, but our waiter was attentive and efficient. We had the Salumeria to start, Chicken Marsala, Tortellini al pesto e verdure, and of course the Alfredo cheese wheel. All were delicious. Although it was busy, we never felt rushed. I dined at Gratzi on a Monday evening hosting a work dinner for 10 people. I chose Gratzi for the dinner because it's one of the few premier restaurants in small town Midland as far as ambience and selection. The interior of the restaurant is nice and suitable for a date night, special occasion, or work event. This time I had the Parmigiano di Coregone. I appreciated the crust on the whitefish filet, but the flavor was underwhelming. It needed extra seasoning (salt and pepper) to bring it up to par with the lemon-caper butter. The Costolette Brasate was too cheesy to the point where it consumed the taste of the slow roasted beef short rib. The calamari was the highlight of the night. Cocktails selection was good, with average strength. Service was a bit slow and I didn't expect that for a party of 10 on a Monday night. Overall 6/10. read more

This was a good place to eat Italian after going to see the musical Six with my friend. Despite its popularity and the amount of people that arrived when they opened at 4pm, the servers handled it well. The atmosphere is great with a large variety of choices to pick from. I got the salmon Alfredo and my friend got the Fettucini Bologonese. There was a little blip as my Alfredo came out with shrimp instead of the salmon I ordered but it was rectified quite easily. We picked our food from a tablet that showed pictures and prices. The salad with cranberries.walnuts and gorgonozola cheese was very good. We were both pleased and were so hungry that I didn't take pictures. We had left early in the morning due to the weather to attend our early afternoon show. The sangria was also very good and I liked how it came in ready to pour individual bottles. We were offered a shot of lemon cello for the road but had to decline due to the 2 1/2 hour ride home. It was a good thing also as we had a few slick spots on the freeway on the way home. Thanks Gratzi for the wonderful dinner and in a rare case there was absolutely no leftovers. read more

I was in midland for a pickleball tournament, and we found this lovely Italian restaurant to carb up...and I was SO glad we went there. The Alfredo..the best I've ever had. All the pasta was handmade/everything was made in house and it was obvious. The sauce was fresh, not too thick or creamy, just right. The woman who sat us down at our table was very friendly and inviting. Overall, the restaurant was so good - if I'm ever in Midland again I would go back. We had the table alfredo and sea bass because it was recommended by our friend who lives in the area. My daughter loves carbonara so that's what she ordered. We also shared the calamari for appetizer. The calamari was ok, the breading was a bit heavy and it's served with an aioli instead of the traditional marinara. The table alfredo was a bit dry (not enough sauce) and the pasta was overcooked. Maybe that's how Michigan likes their pasta? We were not asked how we wanted it cooked so just assumed it was al dente. The carbonara was not flavorful or creamy. The sea bass was overcooked as well. The drinks was on point. We had a small dinner here on a Monday night. The hostess took a bit to take us to our table, the initial table wasn't clean. But the table they gave us was clean and stable. We ordered Brussels sprouts , pasta, and two salads, one with salmon. The pasta was quite interesting. They showed us part of the process of how the sauce was made with the raw egg. Unfortunately, the food tasted a bit bland, besides the insalada mista which had a lot more mixed and blue cheese in it. The area was nicely decorated but there was a tv or two in the area if you need to catch up on a game or two. It felt out of place but that might be part of the small town feel. Had a wonderful evening at Gratzi this Sunday with my boyfriend. Probably the best restaurant service I have ever experienced! My boyfriend had heard about the table side pasta and we made a reservation for the dining room after a day of walking through Dow Garden. It's a beautiful restaurant but I wouldn't say it's super romantic or intimate since the tables are so close together. Our server (I wish I remembered her name!) was SO kind and fun and we had such a great experience with her. We talked about TV shows and I can tell that she has good taste haha. She did a great job explaining the menu and going over the offerings and the ingredients that they use in their dishes and where they come from. She wasn't pushy at all with buying drinks or additional items which I always appreciate. I wish our waters got checked more often but that's the only little suggestion I have! We got started with some focaccia and an arancini amuse-bouche. The risotto arancini was delicious and flavorful and I thought the texture was fabulous, crispy on the outside but light on the inside. The focaccia was also very good, the cheese on top especially. We ordered the fried ravioli for our appetizer and that was also very tasty. You can definitely tell that they use fresh, local ingredients. The red sauce they were served with was so yummy I was scraping the plate! Even though they were fried they were not heavy at all and the cheese filling was nice and smooth. We both got the alfredo de tavola with grilled chicken for our entrée. The person who did our demonstration was also very kind and talked us through the aging process for the Parmigiano Reggiano. We did get splashed with the cheese a little bit but that's wasn't a big deal haha. The portion of chicken they gave us (in a separate bowl) was quite generous and I thought that the prices were quite reasonable for the level of service they provide. The fresh pasta was amazing and they definitely don't skimp out on how much cheese they give you for the alfredo. We were too full for dessert but we finished the night with a complimentary limoncello digestif that made the occasion feel extra special. After being highly recommended by coworkers, I decided to have dinner at Gratzi on my final night in Midland. The meals are pretty pricey (especially for Midland standards) but all were plated nicely and tasty. Was this the best Italian food I've had? No- but for the classy ambiance, friendly servers and variety it brings to the Midland restaurant scene, I think this is a must-try place if you're in town. The focaccia bread they offer at the table was so fresh right out of the oven. The Pollo Toscano soup wasn't the best soup I've had, but hit the spot. For my main meal, I ordered the Pollo Mostarda which I've never had elsewhere. The goat cheese and fig added a nice creamy complement to the dish- only complaint is I wish there was an option for a non-cauliflower risotto option since I'm not the biggest fan of cauliflower and think regular rice risotto would work even better! Quantity wise, I wish there was a bit more offered and I definitely would have been hungrier had I not eaten bread/soup beforehand. First time back in many years. We were in the area and I used to love Gratzi Ann Arbor before they closed. We arrived on a Sunday night. The restaurant had about 6 tables sat including the front bar area. Which was surprising because online there weren't many reservations open. We were greeted by the Host and Manager who were at the desk. We checked in and were told our seats would be ready soon as they were getting them cleared and set. Almost ten minutes later we still were waiting. I figured maybe the server was overly booked and needed a few extra moments. So imagine our shock when we were finally taken to the dining room and it was empty. More than half of the restaurant was available. The host wanted to sit is at a small table in the walkway area. We requested the adjacent booth. Instead of granting that request, she paused, looked bothered, looked around for a few seconds and then finally said "I guess so", in a rude tone. We found her very unaccommodating and rude from the time we were waiting and this just topped it off. Front of staff is where your first impressions are made. And sadly she didn't start our experience off on a good note. Thankfully, our server was amazing. Very friendly, helpful, accomodating. I wish I remembered her name. We loved the Amuse-Bouche they served, I could even participate with my food allergies. Definitely an added bonus and not something I've had at any other restaurant owned by this company. It was delicious. A carrot Puree. I miss the bread they used to serve, Focaccia was a bit dry. Dinner was good and of course the complimentary Limoncello at the end. The carbonara was so good. A sharp, garlicky and flavorful. The panceta was perfect in it. Didn't taste like any I've had before, but I give it two thumbs up. My standard for chicken Marsala is carrabbas- theirs while not similar to carrabbas was outstanding. Great sauce over 2 breasts, served with broccolini overview ravioli. Amazing. Great place. Love the food here, especially the vegetarian options available. The pizza was really good, the crust was thin, chewy, and a little charred, just like we had in Italy. Tortellini was so good, and the Alfredo da tavola is a must to see at least once. The parmesan wheel comes from Italy and tastes authentic. Service was a little slow (and usually is) so expect to spend a decent amount of time here. There was a mistake with our order that was quickly resolved. Their food service is beyond slow, it's almost comical. Our birthday ten year old requested we eat here as he loves the pasta made in the parm block. Ninety minutes later we were served cold sticky pasta. Two pizzas were cold and a third one was burnt. Oh by the way, the kids meal and birthday person no longer get icecream. We had eight people so our bill was hefty. The food service was horrible. This was my third and last visit. How a restaurant stays in business with such horrible food delivery is shocking. read more

They make us wait to put something together after we absolutely refused to be seated in their empty patio in 85 degree weather. AGAIN, completely empty restaurant. They put us in a round booth and we ask if we can get the table next to us instead since it was empty and had more room. The manager comes by and says we had to put something together to accommodate you and all these tables are reserved. No one had even walked in after us. So we got up and left. The focaccia bread was fresh and warm and our side salads were flavorful. The bolognese had an appropriate amount of noodles to sauce and was flavorful. The alfredo (not from the cheese wheel) came with very dry pasta and small chunks of chicken buried in the pasta. I asked for a side of Alfredo sauce and couldn't quite figure out what it was, but quickly discovered the next day when eating my leftovers it was butter a lot of butter. When in downtown Midland and you want a nice Italian dinner, this place fits the bill 100% We started with a complìmentary bite courtesy of the chef, a fried red pepper with fennel little ball. It had a white onion garnish. Very tasty. Our server also brought out complimentary focaccia bread. It was good but needed butter. We asked for olive oil to dip in. It was late for us and we are not big eaters so 3 of split a pizza/flatbread. Small in size but big on taste. We also split the fettuccine Alfredo, very good with a rich sauce. We added chicken which was bite size pieces. The portion of the Alfredo was not large though for the $20.90. See my photo. Service was excellent from our server Amanda S. I was served the pasta with uniform 1/2" square chunks of chicken that looked like they just came from the frozen food section at Costco and with NO Alfredo sauce!
