Thank you for putting on a fun car show! We had a fun day looking at cars, shopping, visiting with friends, and a great lunch at Maria's!

He thoroughly enjoyed playing the fair games and loved the live bird show near the entrance, where he got to see a vulture and a majestic eagle up close. The fair was definitely busy, but the fast pass ride wristbands came in handy to bypass the long lines. He kept asking to try the mechanical bull ride, and he did absolutely great! He held on tightly and didn't even fall off toward the end; he just asked for it to stop when he was done. I also hopped on a couple of other rides with him, and we had a lot of fun together. It is a fantastic, family-friendly event. We saw that they host a holiday fair here during Thanksgiving weekend, and we are already thinking about coming back for it!

Overall I had a good time, but gear up for the long lines for the food booths and carnival rides. You may end up spending more time in line than enjoying the fair. That'll make anyone grumpy. I waffled between rating a 3 to 4. Next year, the dates of the fair will be a month earlier and over two weekends versus one. The weather would be hotter in July but it's cooler there a bit than at lower elevation and the fairgrounds have tall pines, ponderosa, and oaks providing shade. I got here on Saturday early afternoon and left around 9:30pm. About 6 pm, that is when the attendance seems to significantly more than double. Got extremely crowded. The food and ride lines got longer as well. The lighting on the fairgrounds is limited and after dark it gets difficult to see the ground. Be careful of the uneven ground in the picnic and grassy areas. Alcohol is sold throughout the day and not limited to certain areas. You and your drink are allowed to be mobile throughout the fairgrounds. Parking is $10, we paid cash so not sure if they took other forms of payment. Oh and remember to recall where you parked. This is important especially if you parked in the far fields and intend to venture out to the car after dark. There are no lights out there and minimal to no landmarks. The terrain is a natural field with bumps and holes and all. They have a free shuttle from Tinsloy Transit Center (in Grass Valley ) to the main gate running every 30minutes from 9:30 am to 11pm. Treat Street is an area filled with non profit organizations food booths. Below are some of my favorites. But the lines are loooong! ~ Job daughters (Masonic organization) - corn dogs! These corn dogs are the most popular fair food, thus having a long line. They are legendary. Frankfurter dipped in a cornmeal batter and deep fried. $6 ~ Rough & Ready- baked potatoes! Big, fat plumb baking potato. ~ Nevada City Little League-roasted corn on the cob! $5 ~ Nevada City United Methodist Church- bratwurst and sauerkraut dogs! Flat grilled brats. Yum! - Nevada City United Way- nachos! Yes please. - Penn Valley Lions - caramel popcorn! Fresh made. - Watt Park Firefighters- - soft serve ice cream. - Nevada City Elks- - charbroiled hamburgers . Root beer floats.

The "pumpkins" they had were fake styrofoam cut outs, they looked nice but they were fake so that was a big disappointment for my self. The food vendors they had were kinda whack. The funnel cake vendor was really backed up they started giving back people their money. It sucked because even tho their fryer was broke they still kept selling cakes and telling people 10 minutes. They could of kept it real and closed down earlier. The teriyaki vendor was pretty good but most of their food was sold out. Over all the the experience was so so the display of the "pumpkins" was alright the lighting was decent. I wouldn't come back ever again tho it really didn't wow me.

The show was scheduled to start at 2, but by 2:30 we had only seen one event and were severely overheated. I took my child to stand in line for water, only to learn they were out, but not from the person selling it because I never got to talk to them. We stood in line for 25 minutes and didn't even get to order- there were still 10 people in front of me! Not sure what the wait staff was doing- they only had like 5 drinks to serve and pizza, but somehow they made each order take a really long time. Just ended up leaving, but the walkways were so crowded with families trying to watch the show in just a tiny bit of shade, that we could barely get out. It was a super crowded event at $33/person, they beed to invest in better infrastructure and management. It was an all around awful experience.

There are pros and cons Pros and cons together: The do tend to bring in artists from the general area BUT (also con) some come from as far away as the Bay Area so "Local" is a stretch Some booths are very reasonable in pricing for what is being sold while others are clearly not in touch with both prices and/or quality Some booths are truly crafts! I mean the dried flower demon head??? So cool, unique, and well done! Unique fall/Halloween inspired ceramics? Nice! Definitely what I consider worthy of a craft fair! But again, other booths were selling things not even crafty. Like keychains that looked like reject temu/wish items. I wasn't paying $10 for a crappy keychain! Typically, there's a decent variety but at my most recent visit to the one in Reno, there had to be at least 7 or 8 booths selling crochet stuffed animals and it appears more than half of them were using the same patterns. There are food options, but there is honestly nothing I remember standing out at any of these. The recent pumpkin fair was somewhat chaotic with no signage, no help in finding parking, no easily found disability accessible parking, and no actually planned pay out. Food vendors were kinda all over. There was a rock climbing wall and a mechanical bull for some reason. It just felt chaotic. Overall their fairs are about 3 stars. You'll definitely find some great vendors but you need to search. Parking is typically a free for all. Accessibility is difficult for those with mobility issues. Food vendors are meh and there are typically no places to sit and eat. If you happen to be around for one, go check it out but definitely don't make it your day.

If you go early enough there are plenty of spaces for street parking. There weren't too many people there. I think this is more of an event for the locals. There were plenty of strawberry based foods that included tamales, pizza, salsa, beer, etc., but none of them really appealed to me. I ordered the chicken teriyaki- $6. It was quite big and flavorful. This was probably one of the most popular items there since it had the longest line. I also ordered the strawberry puppies (hushpuppies) for the sake of getting something strawberry related- $2. It was ok but I don't understand why the Hershey's chocolate sauce that was used to dip the strawberry puppies into was so watery. Of course they also sold plain old strawberries. They were some of the best strawberries I ever had. My friend even bought a box of them.

Wish they did have a to-do container though to put these in. Plenty of vendors and contests. I do wish they would have more strawberry based vendors. They did have a lot of cool vendors like honey and BBQ sauce vendors. The variety of organic seasonings and tea was pretty awesome. Though pricey at $5 for 2oz spices and $7 for 2 oz teas. We used an Entertainment coupon, so we only paid $10 for admission. Otherwise, it would have been $20. I definitely would not pay full price for this event. We were in and out in an hour. There isn't THAT much to see warranting the price. Plenty of these are far cheaper or free to attend. I can understand the state and county fair for $10-12 each, but not the Berry Fest. There's more festivities geared towards kids, which a lot of us childless people don't utilize. Plus it costs money for parking as well. ($5 according to another review) We always park further and walk. So I am minusing a star for the entrance and parking fees. Prices are also not all that clear on the site. I had to hunt around and only found the pre-order fee of $9 and it's $10 at the entrance.

Pro-tip: be sure to park further away as ANY event at the fairgrounds will cost you $10 and in CASH ONLY. In addition to the cover charge, you have to buy $5 vouchers which get you sample sized items from all vendors that were put on. It is somewhat of a glorified food truck event. There were only a few places that weren't food trucks. I didn't really like the voucher system as not all vendors accepted them for things like desserts. I ended up having to trade my voucher back for cash toward the end. It would just be easier to hand the vendors cash for all the items, but apparently the vendors only get like $3 out of the $5 paid for the vouchers. I guess the cover charge isn't enough for the event hosts? It's basically just like any other food festival but overpriced if you're paying for the cover charge and parking. It's not a huge event.
