I highly recommend Graspmore Physical Therapy. I love rock climbing and periodically get really into training for half/full marathons. Coupled with that has been a long list of injuries to my forearm, shoulder, back, hamstrings, etc. Most recently I ruptured my Achilles and have just been in a state of depression because I'm unable to do the things that make me happy. I need two hands to count the number of physical therapists I've been to. I'll give you two BIG reasons why Graspmore Physical Therapy, specifically Jonie, is above and beyond the rest: Personal Education - I believe a lot of my previous PTs would treat the symptom and not the cause, e.g. if I came in with a pain in my bicep, we'd work on fixing my bicep and that work... until it didn't. At Graspmore, the sessions were 1-on-1 for the full hour during which Jonie would work with me to figure out what activities or movements caused pain. We'd then trace the pain down the line to see what other parts were impacted and what else may need strengthening or more mobility to alleviate said pain. I'm a very visual learner, so she drew diagrams and brought out skeletal models. After each session, I was able to pick up more information about how each connective member was contributing to the initial pain. I walked away pain free but more importantly, I now have a tailor-made warmup/cool down routine and the knowledge I need to prevent future issues. Non-Physical Therapy - I used be able to run 3 mi off the couch. As I got older, I started doing more warmup routines or prehab workouts but I'd stop once I felt like I could do things off-the-couch again. Jonie really created a safe for me to ask questions and face the reality of getting older and having to be kinder to my body. That goes such a long way because I don't view warming up or mobility work as a chore or something that I do here and there. It's just part of the picture of staying fit just like getting good sleep or eating well; you can't just do those things for a month and expect the results to last. read more

I was recently diagnosed with a hip labral tear and Graspmore came highly recommended by my orthopedic doctor. To be honest, I was a little hesitant at first as I previously hadn't ever gone to an out of network clinic for healthcare. I worked with Nick Duenas, PT, on lower back / hip pain. The pain was so bad that even standing in my kitchen to cook became painful. I run cross country and track for UC Davis and in the spring, I broke my ankle racing the steeplechase. When I started seeing Nick, I was about 2 months post-op and terrified to walk without my boot on. TL;DR GO HERE, definitely recommend I've been working with Dr. Steve Kim at Graspmore. I've worked with a handful of other PTs in the past, including one running specific (I'm a long distance runner who has been skeptical of going to non running specific PTs), and I think Steve has been my favorite :') We've been working together for a few weeks now, and he's really worked to help get me out of pain and identify/come up with a plan to address the issues causing the pain. I feel taken care of at Graspmore. Steve has also definitely gone over time on some appointments - he genuinely cares about my fears and worries and helping me reach my goals. He listens to all of my concerns, no matter how silly, both physical and mental (low key taking on role of physical therapist and therapist) and I am definitely the type of person to take notes of everything that hurts and bring them to him during our appointments lol In my limited personal experience with non-running specific PTs, I haven't received the care and help that I felt I wanted and needed? It's different here. Running isn't Steve's specialization, but he's so so so knowledgeable and has a way with his words. He doesn't just blame it on my weak hips and leave it at that. The exercises he gives are doable but challenging and have a direct impact on what I'm working towards. He also makes sure to ask what I think about the plan. It genuinely feels collaborative. I'm just over a year out of ACL surgery and have been going to Graspmore for 2 months now while I work towards a return to being able to confidently play basketball again without the fear of re-injury. In my 2 visits so far (monthly cadence), Kevin and Benny have helped dissect what limitations I still have in my right knee compared to my left. From this deep analysis, together we've found the certain movements that I find to not only be more difficult to perform, but also feel less confident in my right knee vs my left. This analysis has led to the creation of a very specific workout plan, tailored to my limitations, which is mainly surrounding single leg jumping and impact. Coming into my first session at Graspmore, I already knew I would be in good hands with Kevin, as I worked with him 3 years ago at a previous facility when I was training for a return to basketball after sustaining the same injury, but to my left knee. Kevin really challenged me to think hard about what was limiting my left knee from feeling like my right knee, which had no injuries at the time. Through 6 sessions, we developed a great program for me to follow on my own. This helped me confidently return to playing pickup and in local men's leagues, amongst other sports like tennis, flag football, softball, etc. My left knee has felt strong and stable since then, but I did sustain the same injury to the other knee last year, and spent 9ish months post-op at a regular PT facility getting my ACL and the muscles surrounding it strong again. For several years now, I've been dealing with persistent lower-back pain, primarily due to a herniated L4/S1, an old cycling injury, and potential anatomical misalignments. I went to see Steve Kim for some knee pain (patellofemoral pain syndrome) I've had since 2020. Within 6 working sessions my knee was almost pain free. I didn't think it was possible that I could progress so much in that time given I had been putting off physiotherapy for a couple of years. I had started my treatment with the goal of moving, exercising and just walking for long periods without having my knee flare up. Steve listened to my needs and was clear about what we would need to focus on to get to my goals. We spent each session working on form and strengthening my quads, hips and glutes. I focussed on my take home exercises in addition to my normal work out routine (mainly HIIT) in between our sessions. I immediately could tell the difference with how my knee was responding to these changes. The true test was when I went on a recent trip to Yellowstone and Grand Teton. It was just after our 5th session. I knew I'd be testing my knee with non-stop walking and strenuous hikes. Who would've thought, my knee only pinched once and it wasn't after any of the walks/hikes I did! All this to say, without Steve's guidance, knowledge and commitment to you as a patient, I wouldn't have been able to progress this quickly. My interactions with everyone there have been overwhelmingly positive - it's clear from the moment you walk in that the PTs here care deeply about their work and the people that come through their clinic. A far cry from other experiences I've had with health care, the folks here bring an understanding of and appreciation for the human side of the work as well as intricate knowledge of the science of PT. I came to Benny with a fresh lower back injury with strong but intermittent pain that I didn't understand much myself. I wasn't sure how much he'd be able to do for me since the pain was so irregular. He took me through several diagnostic procedures, explaining his thought process the whole way through. I never felt lost as to what he was trying to do while we dialed in to the source of the issue. He seamlessly mixed manual therapy, exercises, interspersed with testing the same movement so I could feel how each type of therapy affected the injury. I walked away with a much more solid understanding of a very fresh injury, including a tentative diagnosis and places to stretch and strengthen. He was also a joy to talk to, and very patient with all my questions! Though newer to this clinic, his experience in the field is evident. Kevin is extremely warmhearted and every bit as knowledgeable. We went over exercises to support my injury in depth, building each one up in layers so I could both understand and feel how to do them properly. He looked at not just the specific area of complaint, but the way that connects to the rest of the body, clarifying how several joints mutually effect each other. The time he takes to truly listen to his patients as well as ensure they are equipped to maintain their treatment regimen through true understanding is invaluable. His holistic view of the body as well as the recovery process give his patients the tools they need to truly regain function, not just mitigate pain. Kevin is the best PT! I've been working with him for knee pain that I had on and off for over a year. He performed an extremely thorough evaluation on day 1 to find the root cause of the pain, and regularly re-evaluates my movement patterns and strength discrepancies as I keep improving.
