Great little restaurant on what it feels the top of Tuscany. Make sure you take the main road that gets you in the town. Google Maps took us through some back roads and I had to drive 3 feet away from the edge of a precipice. My wife was shaking all the time... The restaurant was not easy to find (entrance is off a small side walkway) but it was totally worth it - the atmosphere was great, the wine list was HUGE, and the wait staff were very helpful. Food was top notch as well. In short, would highly recommend if you like charming local Italian food & wine and also look to explore the town.

Such a great find in Montelchino. It is tucked away just a bit off one of the main roads with plenty of other wine tasting rooms and restaurants. They have a 2019 Michelin bib gourmand, which means that it is good food for a good value. They have a notable wine list. We tried the 2015 Banfi Belnero Toscana. The prices are fair and the food is delicious. We started with the variety of crostini's (cheese, truffle, pesto, and liver). All were delicious. The meats were tasty from the antipasti. We split the funghi porcini pasta as a primi then each got our own secondi (braised steak and Guinean fowl with lemon suave). The guinea fowl was my favorite. We ordered a chocolate soufflé for dessert, but unfortunately it was severely undercooked and underwhelming. We'd definitely go back! And we recommend you stop by here if you have a chance!

I wondered in here on a cold November evening and enjoyed one of my best meals in Italy (and in Italy that's really saying something). Just off the main square and down the steps of a narrow alleyway with great views of the Tuscan countryside, the unpretentious Grappolo Blu offers solid, straightforward, traditional meals and very wonderful wines. (and there's a free wi-fi if you need it). Dinner was: Hand-rolled spaghetti-like pasta with cherry tomatoes and basil (8 euro) Side if sweet and sour onions (small onions cooked in a sauce of balsamic vinegar -- can anyone find a recipe for this? I've never been more delighted by a vegetable) (5 euro) Dessert: warm poached pear in white wine (totally excellent) (5 euro) The next day got up and drove down to Sant'Antimo, then over some dirt back roads to Sant'Angelo in Colle, then back to Montalcino for lunch (thought about dinner the whole time). Lunch was: Flat pasta with mushroom sauce (8 euro) Side of sweet and sour onions (in case I haven't emphasized enough, these are delicious) (5 euro) Very nice glass of house wine (4 euro) Dessert: ricotta cheese with honey and chocolate (5 euro) (this was very nice, but the poached pear is still my favorite) The first night I was one of three tables eating there (others were locals). An older couple several tables away clearly appreciated the very extensive wine list and worked their way through three of them). Lunch the next day, I was again one of three tables, until a group of 20 very polite Japanese tourists arrived, who seemed just enchanted with everything (I was VERY HAPPY to see this group arrive and patronize this restaurant, especially during the off season. Service was excellent and the staff knows English if that's needed.

Fantastic quality dishes and reasonably good service by Italian standards. I had their zuppa as well as picci con carne and both were real delicious. It is located on a viccolo so it is hard to find but once you do, head down to their restaurant below and enjoy the food. Highly recommended for lunch.

One would think a small restaurant next to the castle of the famous Tuscan hill town would be a tourist trap. However, our host at our hotel, Cristina, told us to go because she also makes the pasta for this place amongst others. She was so right, Osteria di Porta Al Cassero is amazing. We had chickpea soup that tasted like heaven. Fresh bread, handmade pasta with black truffle and some great Brunello to wash it down. It was filled with locals who were all festive and enjoying life. Who wouldn't living in Montalcino? This was one of our favorite meals. Basic, healthy, Tuscan, glorious.

The chickpea soup was a good, but there could have been more spices. Service was typical of Italy, where you are expected to take your time and enjoy yourself, which can drive us Americans a little crazy when we have a packed schedule. Our server was attentive when we signaled him, and we learned that this building was an ancient stable for the castle, and the plexiglass in the floor covers an old well. One thing to note is that you need to get up and pay at the bar when you are done.

We came to Montalcino on our honeymoon. The incredible weather and the fresh Tuscan air is magnificent. As we made our rounds about the town, we came across Alle Logge after numerous positive reviews and even local recommendations. The location of the restaurant was perfect, but it was not enough to counteract the dismal service, low-quality of food, awful wine, and terrible bookkeeping. The server was only semi attentive to our needs. The wine was brought with bugs in it and when we asked for it to be exchanged, we were given a different, bad tasting wine and told it was the same one we received earlier (it was most definitely not). The pasta was flavorless and mediocre at best. And finally, the restaurant manager incorrectly tallied our bill and tried to overcharge. This is a restaurant that knows it will continue to get crowds of tourists and doesn't bother to take any pride in its craft. Overall a horrible experience, please spend your money elsewhere.

I definitely was not expecting much from a resto in the middle of a touristy town…read more We chose this place simply because of a super cozy outside setting in the middle of a square. I am so glad we did! Outside you had about 15 tables and the wait was about 10-15 min for two. Unlike most slow paced spots in Italy here two waiters were running around non-stop making sure everyone is attended to - smiling along and making helpful suggestions. Menu was a delight - but that's nothing new for Tuscany. However, food was superb! I know it is hard to compare cold cuts, cheeses, pastas and secondis in this part of the world where everything is fresh and delicious. But cacio e pepe I had here was the best one I tried during our two week stay. The cold cuts board was also wonderful and quite generous. Selection of wines was plentiful and when I asked for a recommendation I really appreciated that the waiter did not simply go for the most expensive top of the list. Overall, wonderful spot with the most attentive staff.

WINE LIST Hands down the most unique wine list I've ever seen. It's a huge book with local wineries with the front labels of wine bottles glued to each page. Fabulous way to display wines! SALAD Salad special of the day was mixed herbs and greens from their garden and at first look it was just a bunch of greens, no other vegetables or even colors, and it was literally one of the best salads I've ever had in my life. SHRIMP CARBONARA Wide and thick cut pasta with pancetta and tender shrimp, I've never had a carbonara with shrimp so it was a nice addition that I'll be asking for when I'm at Italian restaurants back home SPAGHETTI The spaghetti was much too al dente and when we sent it back we got hell for it. It was the only dish I've sent back abroad because it was inedible vs not good. The pasta was crunchy and we didn't want to eat raw pasta. The chef that prepared it was very irate that the pasta was not undercooked and they were unwilling to make us new pasta. So we told them it was fine and that's when we ordered the second shrimp carbonara. They didn't end up charging us for the angry spaghetti. SERVICE Consistent throughout dinner. We didn't get the scenic views since we went to eat a late dinner and it was pretty chilly outside.
