Wow a bit late on this review and shocked no one has reviewed Osteria Osticcio. For a treat - and the best views in Montalcino : Osteria Osticcio (air-conditioned but inside - make sure request a table with a view). The owner is terrific.Tullio Scrivani is the owner and place is flawless. We were there in September and after visiting the best organic winery in Montalcino, Il Pallazone and Laura Gray who manages it is incredible and a phenomenal winery and what a way to spend two hours there before going to Osteria Osticcio, (got sidetracked), was 30 minutes late but Tullio kept it open for us. With the hills of Val D'orcua in the background and the rooftops of Montalcino in the foreground, he saves us the end table at the window. The afternoon sun and vino --we wanted the afternoon sun never to set. Tullio kept the place open and we were very grateful to savor the food, view and Vino. Still amazed no one has reviewed Osticcio. Go to Montalcino, visit Laura at the winery but make sure you request a table at the window and savor the remainder of the day. Coffee?? Well they serve it in a cup of hand-whipped coffee cream as the drops of coffee come out. Wow. Great variety of cheese beyond pecorino and terrific wine list but stayed with Brunello. The peppardelle al Cinghiale (with wild boar sauce), tagliatelle was amazing as was the presentation, appetizer of fried pizza dough with prosciutto again great (also known as Gnochi Fritto elsewhere especially in Modena), and the bistecca a la florentina (superb). Take a beautiful trip to Montalcino, have lunch at Osticcio and visit the winery Il Pallazone. Do it with someone special and it will be an amazing 4 or 5 hour day. Say hello to Tullio and make sure if you are late please call him. What a place. (You have to see what they do with the wooden wine crates in the restaurant. Great interior decorator idea for the home.). read more
