Decor is a bit old but the service and food is stellar here. My husband had the St. Thomas chicken and he said it was delicious. I had the veal piccata and it had the best sauce that I've had in a pasta dish in quite some time. There is special each day of the week and I remember that Sunday is all you can eat pasta for a small price, think it was $9.99!! Prices are very reasonable and you get large portions. I have thought long and hard about submitting this poor review for The Grapevine Restaurant. We have dined at this Rt. 9 culinary landmark for over 15 years. While there may have been some misses with waitstaff over the years, the food was always delicious and plentiful, in an atmosphere that always made you feel welcome. We did our best to support them during the most challenging moments of the pandemic and have been dining there bi-monthly for many years. From the moment we were seated, I/we should have realized that some significant changes had occurred in the two weeks since we last dined there. We never look at the menu, no need to, when you have gone somewhere for over 15 years, and their menu has had only a few minor tweaks during this period of time. As I looked around, I recognized the bartender, and only 2 of the waitstaff, knowing how challenging it is to retain staff in any business these days, the absence of familiar faces didn't concern me. What did concern us from the moment we sat down, was the presence of flies, not 1 or 2, but, well let us just say, that members of our party began rotating the swooshing with hands to keep the flies off the delicious bread and glass rims initially, then as the meal progressed continuously. The next red flag that should have prompted us to abort the meal, was the overall change in the menu, it has been downsized and missing are some of their best entrees. We discovered this change, when we started to order and the waiter announced that the first two items we attempted to order were no longer offered. As disappointing as this news was, we were not to be deterred, opened our menu(s) and selected entrees from the list of those that had survived yet another Pandemic Menu Purge at one of our beloved restaurants. We did question the justification for some of the changes, asking if suppliers had been changed as a cost savings measure ,but our waiter deftly dodged our line of questioning. I feel the need to mention that as all this ordering was occurring, a member of our party was still making obvious hand gestures to limit the landing attempts of the small black flies, never once did the waiter who could not have missed these movements jump in with an explanation for the flies, or offer to move our party, nothing. Then the entrees came out, the prime rib was a very poor cheap cut and not what we have come to enjoy as a standard Grapevine offering, the baked potato was not close to being cooked, the seafood combo was again not what we have historically ingested, and our two Italian entrees were smaller than before and tough. Not once as the waiter was removing all of our barely touched entree dishes, did he question why 95% of our food was going back, uneaten. Any waiter with even a modicum of experience knows to ask why platters are going back in that state. At this point, I took the lead and asked for our check, it was time to cut our losses. We were all wondering if the Grapevine had been sold? The gentleman sitting on the red booth seat with several other employees, was no one any of us remembered as a manager/co-owner, and honestly, any long term diner of the Grapevine can tell you the staff from the bus staff, through to the chef and owner, never stopped, or they were told about it. We paid our bill, as well as a very generous tip, but we don't know if we will ever return, between the removal of some of our most favorite entrees, the flies(clearly the kitchen back door was ajar, and they were entering there and popping out every time someone pressed the button to open the interior access door to their kitchen, poor quality of the prime rib(never has it ever been like this), tough veal dishes, we will need to think long and hard. read more

This place has only one thing going for them which is their muscles, beside that I would not go back here. We had the prime rib with side of French onion, the seafood plate with side of calm chowder, and pasta with meat sauce. The first item that I need to point out I feel is a easy fix would be their French onion soup. It had so much seasoning more then anything else and it did not have enough broth. Our table was disappointed with our meals. The hostess was rude and when asking her opinion on the 6 oysters or calamari for an appetizer she begrudgingly told us that that "obviously more food comes with the calamari". My aunt ordered the fra diavolo and there was no tomato sauce it was oil and a lot of crushed red peppers. Very disappointing especially since we had been here previously and had the same dish. The first and chips were cooked in old oil and made the dish inedible. The cod which was suppose to be in butter and lemon but had no taste and absolutely no seasoning. Are server literally when asked for ketchup reached over to another table that was eating and said "your not using this right" and handed us there ketchup. Stopped in for a beer and quick bite since we know the Grapevine never disappoints. Shrimp and crab nachos were the special appetizer we decided to give them a try, soo glad we did. These nachos were not your run of the mill cheesey globs on tortilla chips where you search for the good stuff. First, the chips were light and crispy with just enough cheese to compliment the shrimp, lump crab meat, tomatoes, jalapeno topped with slices of avocado. The dish was a light, mouth watering culinary delight. You actually taste the shrimp and crab what a seafood lover's delight. We recently moved into the area and the Grapevine has not disappointed yet. I cook chicken franchise, and theirs is great. Additionally their pasta with Vodka sauce could be a go to for me every time if I were not so curious about the other entrees. My husband flipped over the eggplant melt. He has also enjoyed every dish he's ever ordered from the Grapevine as well. Since we'll be here in the winter, the Grapevine can count on our patronage. We normally sit at the bar and even though those girls hustle, we are always taken care of very well. Even though live music on the weekends makes it a little hard to hear, we appreciate it. The staff and service were really great, but that's the best I can say about the experience. I am inclined to think that the positive reviews for this restaurant are for the more casual pizza and wings side, but this weekend, we went for dinner in the more "formal" side, which was a little cramped and geriatric in decor and atmosphere. Not always a harbinger of bad things, but in this case... We started with the eggplant and calamari appetizers - the eggplant was pretty tasty but got soggy really quickly. The calamari was a little chewy but not greasy and could have been worse. All three entrees, however, were bad to terrible. First, I had to ask if their pasta was cooked al dente to which the server said she could put it in as a special request. That was a pretty big red flag, but I hoped for the best. I'm normally a more adventurous eater, but I went for the fettucine alfredo since, at its worst, it's usually a decent mac and cheese approximation. Unfortunately, the pasta came out mushy and drowning in a watery, mostly flavorless sauce. The chicken that I asked to be added had no color or flavor and, if I had to guess, was microwaved. Maybe boiled? My sister's "al dente" linguine with clam sauce was also mush drowning in tasteless water. My mother got the seafood broil. She's usually happy to eat any seafood covered in butter but was really disappointed with the dish. One of the stuffed clams was so tough she couldn't cut it with a knife. read more

I've been going to the Grapevine for over 10 years and was shocked at the service my group received and overall experience from this past Saturday night. The restaurant called me about an hour before we were supposed to arrive which we were a party of 7, and asked if everyone was able to "get up stairs"? I said yes that we could and that was fine. When we arrived to the restaurant and went upstairs, I was a bit taken back. There was mold all over the ceiling and it was hot and felt closed in. Dark, lonely and abandoned was the atmosphere. There was live music downstairs but we couldn't hear anything. We were pretty much all alone up there. The table had not been ready for us as there was half place settings and no water. We waited almost 45 minutes for a glass of wine. When the waitress periodically came up she said the bartender was "busy"and gave a little bit of an attitude. It would have been nice if the drinks we ordered were on the house considering the ridiculous amount of time we waited but they weren't. The bright spot was the food was delicious and they gave large portions! I never write reviews but this time I felt obligated. You should not sit patrons upstairs as it is a health hazard with visible black mold. It is not ventilated well and it is dark. There is absolutely no atmosphere which is part of the experience of going out. It literally felt like we were in someone's attic. There was no service staff up there as well. I saw a bus boy once and he never came to our table. If you are having live music or a busy Saturday night, I would suggest getting a second bartender. We still had a good time with our group and made the best of it. We tipped well as we always do but now will be hesitant to return. read more

This is our place, we order several times a week. Our favorites are baked ziti Sicilian, vine salad, sashimi, calamari, gnocchi with broccoli and pizza (of course). Looking for a restaurant convenient to LBI and Brigantine, my friend and I chose to dine at the Grapevine, and am I glad we did. I pulled in to the parking lot and noticed recently painted lines and good condition. Walking to the entrance, I saw the fresh, colorful and thriving landscaping. Upon entering I was greeted by the personable owner and found my friend and her daughter. Our menu selections were all generous, delicious, well prepared, and attractively presented. Be sure to try the Vine prime rib sandwich, the turkey reuben, Buffalo chicken pizza, and soup of the day cream of mushroom soup. The chef also prepares delicious looking broccoli and chicken tenders that looked handmade. Our server, Chrissy, was friendly, efficient, and professional, and she didn't mind that we stayed at the table for a long while catching up with each other. The Grapevine hands down has been my favorite restaurant in the area until recently. My husband and myself have had questionable meals twice in a row. The first time we were disappointed it was with the short rib dinner special the short rib where so tough you could not chew them. The restaurant was very gracious and did not charge us for a single thing. You don't see this too often. The second disappointment was with the veal picata the sauce was thick and floury tasting horrible. the meat was cooked well but that thick sauce horrible. It should have been lite and lemony. My husband had the veal oso bucco, veal was tender but the sauce he said was like an egg foo young sauce. Giving them one more try so sad about this place that could do no wrong. read more

My sister and I went to dinner on Feb 8,2023 to celebrate our birthday and had a 100. gift card that our brother had given us. We had a nice bottle of wine, appetizer and entree totaling $95.00. We then presented the Visa Debit gift card and cash tip to the server. To our surprise the card had declined in the restaurants system. I asked for the manager and the owner came over and explained that the don't accept GIFT CARDS. This was not posted in the restaurant, on the menu or in the Bar area. The owner said that he gets this everyday at least 4,000 (his words) customers have been declined since he bought the restaurant 2 years ago and never thought to notify anyone that enters his place that they don't accept gift cards. If you tell him you don't have the money, he tells you to use the ATM in the lobby. So your out dinner ordering $100 worth of food and now you have to use your house money to pay the bill!!!.......get the drift? low life business owner out for himself. read more

It had been over a week of diners and fast food joints in small town Colorado and upstate New York when we rolled into Tuckerton, NJ and went to the Grapevine for dinner. Being back near the sea, the air was soft; our spirits lifted and the joy of having hot, delicious seafood was intense. We started with the oysters on the half shell and the guys requested the jumbo lump crab cakes, which they enjoyed. I had the shrimp & mussels fra diablo. Everything was fresh -- and from my dish at least, I knew we had ventured back to a part of the country where Italian immigrants (grazie mille) had introduced their cuisine. Joy settled into relief as we wobbled out with full bellies and made our way to the Inn in the moonlight. Conversation then turned to local lore, and "the Jersey Devil" -- which (according to the myth) comes back every hundred years, manifests in some beastly form, hides in the Pines, and comes after the living souls. read more

Every time my wife kicks me out, I go to the Grapevine. The bar is small and classy, the bartenders are professional, and the Bruschetta Pizza is insane. No Mystic Island trash and/or prostitutes there, although they do have their entertainment value at times. Slightly pricy, but if it were cheaper you'd be listening to patrons who tell you what to say to get charity care at the hospital and complain about how the local cops are assholes.
