We have had GCD install granite countertops in two bathrooms and a large wet bar. GCD installed granite countertops in the kitchen area for the previous owners of the house. Their pricing and turnaround time is very reasonable. The installers are very competent and personable. We have recently made arrangements to have GCD replace the countertop in the master bathroom. now located in iowa city. I used them for a kitchen counter and bath vanity. The kitchen counters were done very nicely and looks beautiful. There was a major problem with the bath vanity, however; they cut the sink opening more than 3/4" offcenter--it was completely, visibly obvious. If they didn't notice their error at the time of cutting (impossible, in my opinion), then that's a serious quality control question. Or they knew it was wrong and thought I wouldn't notice. I think it's the latter because they sent someone out to verify the problem, and that guy actually tried to convince me it wasn't that bad, no one would notice. When I refused, they did make it right by cutting a new vanity top and installed it next day. So: mixed review. Mostly nice work, and mostly pleasant to work with, but one pretty serious problem. read more

Bad experience. In our opinion not pro at all. Said they could do what we wanted, then bait and switched us into a different layout because they supposedly couldn't do what we wanted when they came to measure. When we were unsatisfied and cancelled the order they threatened us. Hung up on us twice. Yelled profanities. And told us that they were going to charge us a 25% restocking fee for material that they hadn't even ordered yet. They didn't even measure for installation correctly. They didn't do any templating to match the walls. Hired Imperial Stone out of Dyersville. They came to our house, rough measured the space. Told us our original plan was no problem. And their bid is HALF THE PRICE!!! read more

We recently had our kitchen counter tops done. We received estimates from one other place in town that had received good reviews from my family actually. Granite Custom Design's quote was cheaper by a fair amount. On top of that, they would remove our counter tops. It was an additional charge but we found the other place we looked would not tear them out, at any cost. Granite Custom also allowed us to buy a sink through them which was far more efficient. I can't recall but I also don't believe that was an option with the other place. To be honest, we were hesitant to go with this company only because there were little reviews and we didn't know anyone who had used them. For efficiency and cost purposes though, we selected them and honestly could not be happier. We will say the selection wasn't huge but we were able to find something we loved in our price range. We found the installation staff was beyond professional and kept apologizing for the dust and glue smell during installation, which comes with the territory. We were very happy with them and would gladly recommend them to friends or family. Family members who have used other places have seen our counter tops and think they look great. read more
