Thank y'all for taking such great care of her! I would specifically like to thank the folks who work in the food service part of the hospital. Hospital food is usually super bland and texturally horrible. I don't know who's cooking at St. Vincent's but the food that came for all 4 meals she was served was spectacular! The first meal was teriyaki chicken with real fresh grilled pineapple and sautéed or steamed FRESH vegetables. The second meal was tender beef tips with gravy over perfectly cooked and seasoned rice along with...again, FRESH cauliflower that had been steamed or roasted and was perfectly seasoned. Before we left the next day, the lovely food service staff brought a delicious homemade beef ziti with a delicious tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese paired with again, FRESH mixed vegetables. All the food had great texture and was perfectly seasoned. As the owner of a catering business, I know how difficult it is to do this with large format cooking. Y'all did an excellent job!! And, yes...I was not the patient, but my sister did share her meals with me because she was also amazed at how great the food was! GREAT JOB!

I said need to use the restroom he showed me where it was, and I never saw him again my entire stay. After using the restroom, now I'm here by myself waiting on my family to arrive. I go sit down on the bed, my family comes walking in, they come over to the bed where I was sitting, and we embrace one another. Shortly after that a RN walks in by the name of Suzan on 5 west, with her student, and greets me. Suzan ask for a list of my medications, allergy, then she asked me what I take for pain? I said Tylenol her response that's all you take for pain, me yes, then she said if you need something for pain that's the only thing that you will take, me yes! I didn't state why I was rushed to the hospital, because I had fluid around my heart. Then Suzan asked me to count backwards 20-1, I said for what, she repeated herself so I went on and did it next I need you to say the month of the year backwards, me for what? I never mentioned my age, I am 66 years old in good shape work out five days a week sharp mind , and this bully nurse is messing with me. I have congestion heart from chemotherapy 23 years ago, not from mistreating my body. Then Suzan tells me she need check your skin, I say for what? Her response was nothing. The next thing I know Suzan pick up the phone, and ask a nurse to come down to the room, because she need to check my skin. When the nurse comes in the room we speak, and she says I know you, and I say I know you. Then she said I put your iv in the last time you was here, me you sure did. Then she said how nice I am, I said thank you. Then Suzan say to the other nurse I need you to go on the other side of the bed, and said to me I need you to turn over on your side, me for what? I need to check your skin, now she looked at my legs, and nothing wrong with them now I need to turn over on my side. Suzan yes, and do you want these people to leave out the room, me no the majority of them have the same them I have, but one person, and he seen all of it. So I turn over on my size and this bully nurse Suzan pull down my panties, and look at my butt, I think no you didn't just violated me you are some kinda freak to me. Reminder I am 66 year old with good skin. I have had some many surgeries at St Vincent Southside, and no nurse or doctor have ever ask me to turn over so I can pull your panties down, and check your skin. I mention earlier I gave a a list of my medications, and I mentioned to her when I take my medication. Suzan didn't realize she was dealing with a grown woman, that handles her own business. Suzan decides to change how I take my medication, and I stated that not when I take my medications. Suzan you are today, what? Suzan yes, me I can't take this medication on an empty stomach. Suzan yes you will, me no I'm not I know what's going to happen, Suzan say we have some graham crackers, and saltine crackers, I stated I don't eat that, Bully Suzan says that's all we have so I said ok. I eat a few graham crackers, and Suzan gave me the medicine, but check this out she gave me a pill that I am allergic to. When I told her that she said that's what the pharmacy sent up, but I told you I am allergic to that pill, well what's going to happen? I will break in a rash, and hives. Suzan I will order you some Benadryl. After taking the Benadryl Suzan asked me if i need to be resuscitate, would I like to have that done? Now listen to my response. No! Do not resuscitate me. Suzan says you want DNR, me yes! I stated it's in my will. Then the bully come out again in her, and this is what Suzan states if it's in your will we need a copy of it, she really thought I was a stone fool if she thought I would ask my husband to go home, and get my will for her to look over, not going to happen on my watch I just stared at her, and said this time is the only time I am willing to let that happen. There's no reason for her to see my will. When you check in the hospital for and surgery they ask you do you have a living will, and you answer yes they check a box on the paper, not say we need to see your will. I guess Suzan thought this was my first rodeo, wrong. Just my first time on your floor! The foolishness continues with this nurse, she very unprofessional. Then she have her student to give me a ekg. Now I'm constantly coughing, and this student wants me to lie flat on my back, and take this test. I said may I sit up, student I need you you flat, me I take ekg sitting up all the time. So I lie down, and this student didn't know what's she was doing, and I am coughing about to choke, and my sister stepped in, and said hold up now you see she coughing, now press that button. The next day Suzan starved me until 4:30 pm. Lied and said I had fallen, was very rude to me,

I can prove this because of the records of his previous healthcare provider. He was kept sedated for the first few weeks. A family member was at his side 24/7. During this time no mention was made of a pressure wound. No adjustments were made regularly to prevent pressure wounds. By the time it was brought to my attention that there was a sore it has become quite severe. I have no complaints about the nurses themselves. They are overworked and unappreciated. The problem as I see it was a lack of consistency in the care of the wound. It should be well known what steps are taken in caring for each patients wound. This was NEVER the case. Because of this his wound received different and at times even no care. I believe arrogance of doctors and heads of departments played a major role in this. Looking to your own ego instead of the patient as an individual deserving your best care and attention is wrong. My son was strong enough that his body overcame the health problems that resulted in his hospitalization. He was not strong enough to overcome the stage four pressure wound.

The food court has several stations, including a salad bar, meat-and-three, sandwiches, and of course, the pizza bar. Everything looked clean and organized, even the salad bar, which can sometimes get messy after a lunch rush. There were four or five cashiers working, so the line moved quickly, and they accept both cash and major credit cards. Their most recent inspection in November 2025 gave them a score of 90. The only issues noted were that the cheese on the salad bar and the pre-made sandwiches were slightly out of safe temperature range. One suggestion would be to add a dessert bar for a sweet treat fix. Overall, it was a smooth experience and a great option if you want a fast, satisfying bite while you're at the hospital.

The cafeteria has a wide variety of options, which is nice whether you are there all day for work, class, or visiting someone in the hospital. There were multiple stations including hot meals, grill items, salad options, and grab and go choices, which made it easy to find something that fit what I was in the mood for. I ordered a hot plate with a protein, vegetables, and a side, and the food tasted fresh and well prepared. The portion size was reasonable and filling without being overwhelming. The cafeteria itself was clean and well organized, especially considering how busy the hospital can be. The atmosphere felt calm for the most part, though it did get a little loud during peak lunch hours. Service was efficient and staff moved the line quickly, which I appreciated since many people are on tight schedules. While it is still cafeteria food, the quality and variety make it a reliable option. I would definitely eat here again if I am on campus or at the hospital for an extended period of time.

I recently delivered my first baby at UAB and was very pleased and satisfied with the services received. The doctors, nurses, technicians, lactation specialists, and everyone else that I saw during my stay were excellent. I know that UAB is not the first hospital that comes to mind when thinking about where to deliver your baby in Birmingham, but it was a no brainer for me. Being connected to Children's Hospital brought a piece of mind had my daughter needed those services. In addition, UAB is the only hospital in the state with high-risk maternal and fetal physicians available in-house 24/7 and the only Maternity Evaluation Unit. I want to give a special shout out to the lactation services, and specifically Barbara. She has been instrumental in helping me with this feeding journey. Even 8 weeks postpartum I'm able to call to ask questions or come in for weighted feedings. 10/10 would recommend UAB!
