Girls weekend in North Carolina and my friend said we had to go to Granddad's for her fall apples. They provide a tasting of many varieties and all were mouth watering and crispy and what is best about fall. People were buying wagon-full bags- some dozens of pounds. It was a Monday and crowded- the cider donut aroma wafting through the air. The views, pond, fields, pumpkins were beautiful. It was a fun morning
Good selection but they don't have any Honey Crisp and the ladies ended up buying cabbage, so if you want Honey Crisp you need to be here August 15th
Such a wonderful evening for us to stumble upon this place! We had no idea it was the lavender festival/event but we were so pleasantly surprised and excited to explore. Outside, they had vendors setup for a market. The market was adorable and all vendors were so kind. Inside, Grandad's Apples had wonderful snacks, merchandise, and activities. There was you pick sunflowers and lavender, an amazing play space for kids, and a peaceful seating area near the water. I highly recommended stopping by here if you've never been!
Grandad's Apples is my favorite orchard in the area to visit. It is located in Hendersonville, NC, and has a good-sized parking lot. It is family-owned and opened back in 1994. You can pick your own apples or select already-picked apples if you want more varieties to select from. They have some already bagged or you can bag your own. I love that they offer apple slices of all the current varieties so you can figure out your favorites. I was surprised I didn't like the sweetest apples but liked the more tart ones. Besides apples, they have pumpkins. The sunflowers were at the end of their life when I was there, but I was glad I got to see them. The gift shop sells cider and other items, and the bakery has pies, cookies, donuts, slushies, and other goodies. Customer service is friendly, and on the weekends, they have other activities to do. But you can walk to the water and enjoy the views.
If you're looking to get out the house and see the views, THIS is the place. The weather was great, the facility itself is huge, doesn't feel crowded. I wish maybe there was two separate lines for the bakery as the line went down the parking lot. Unfortunately didn't grab any this trip. We sat next to a couple munching down and they very much said it was worth the 30 min wait in the line though so that says something lol
I always visit for apple picking, but I visited Asheville early this year so decided to go check out the lavender season. I really enjoy visiting because the landscape is beautiful. The lavender wasn't ready to pick so I decided to buy lavender items from the shop like a lavender bath bomb, lavender eye mask and peaches.
What a cool place. My wife and I were in town from Florida for some cooler weather and we stopped in. Someone was serving samples of various apples, which was fun. We sat in the rocking chairs out back and enjoyed the view, then got in line for the tasty apple treats. Stop in, especially if you have kids.
We drove 4.5 hours from Savannah to visit Granddad's today for their Lavender Festival. It started off great but unfortunately did not leave with the best experience. I love lavender and was excited to pick my own. We opted to pay for the bigger bunch for $20. Unfortunately after we paid our lavender bunch fell out of our stroller. I was so bummed. I returned to cashier to see if anyone had turned it in but of course no one had. I had my proof ready to show we paid hoping they'd allow me to pick a new bundle but instead we were given this very pale and old lavender bunch from their discard pile. I understand that they did not have to do that but with tons and tons of lavender to go around I didn't see how it would hurt to let me pick a few stems. Again, I get it's a business but I may have done things differently. Additionally, the only line for the bakery was insane. We stood waiting for 45 minutes and barely moved 3 spaces up. After that time we gave up and walked around. As we headed to leave over an hour later we noticed the couple in front of us had just made it to the front! It's a beautiful property but just did not have the experience I expected. I would not come back to visit unfortunately
An all around fabulous apple orchard. Grandad's Apple's website will tell you all about what they offer therefore I won't go into those details. I'll briefly explain why I enjoyed my experience and say a few things about Grandad's that may not be mentioned on the website that I think make it a great place. The parking is plenteous and orderly. Spots are well marked so you aren't confused and it's not chaos. They also have handicap parking right next to the market. They have lots of porta potties. I didn't see handicap accessible toilets so you'd want to check with Grandad's before you visit if someone in your party needs a handicap accessible restroom. There are several areas to sit and take in the scenery or keep and eye on your kids. There is a shelter just outside the market numerous rocking chairs facing overlooking the valley in which the cornmaze sits. There is also seating inside the pumpkin patch. It looks like there is seating down the hill where you shoot the apple cannon. All the available varieties of apples are in crates so you can grab a bag and select any combination of available apples. Pre-bagged apples of the available apples are also available. I really enjoyed going around and selecting from available apple varieties. Each variety is labeled and has a description of its taste and characteristics. There is also an employee who has samples of the varieties for you to sample. One of the products in the market that stood out to me was the canned cider. I've never scene that before. There were so many good apple products available in the market. I really enjoyed my visit and would definitely go back with friends and family to spend more time there.
Apparently I am not the only one who loves Grandad's Apples as the line for fresh baked goods and apple cider slushies was extremely long! I wanted an apple cider donut or an apple turnover so bad too- but that line! Instead I perused the shop and sampled their apples. The orchards out back are gorgeous with the mountain back drop & I have to say their look with the barn is fun with the cow up top and tractor!
Just like any spooky basic B I love a good pumpkin patch. I have been following Grandads on IG for a bit and was recently in the area so even though it was still hot and not fall weather we still stopped in. It was busy and there was a line for the bakery items but it moved quickly. The cider donuts and the apple caramel cookie were delicious. They have tons of other items as well and the view is worth a stop.
We have always sworn that Cold Hollow has been our favorite cider mill up in New England but wow! The cider and doughnuts here oh and slushies give it a run for their money. A must stop at this gem for any road trips through Asheville. Worth the detour. Come during apple season and pick some apples too!
We stopped in with our large church group while on the way to Asheville. We had a great time! We ordered a hot apple pie and an apple cider slushy. Both were very good! They have a wide variety of apples. They also provide free samples of each variety. Definitely recommend you stop here because you won't be disappointed! read more

We love this farm we visit every season. The pumpkin patch was amazing and Smashing Pumpkins was a great activity for older kids and adults alike. The baked goods apple pie, donuts, frozen apple cider slushy are amazing but the wait time to get some was an hour. read more

What an awesome place to go and take in some homemade goodies. Every time we go the staff is cordial and the area is clean with ample seating to enjoy your homemade Delight. I did buy some cider beer and we'll update my post when I give it a wing. I do go to another location to pick apples but they do have freshly picked apples available when you go. If you plan a trip in August or September you will be able to see the apple trees in bloom as well as the beautiful sunflowers. read more

Without question, Grandad's is my favorite apple orchard in the Southeast! The owners are exceptionally friendly and the array of seasonal offerings is unparalleled. Grandad's features a giant corn maze, a train ride (for littles), a sunflower garden, pumpkin patch, a mini lavender farm, and acres of apple orchards. The mercantile store sells fresh roasted coffee, hand poured candles, jams/jellies, cold apple cider, hard cider, produce, wreaths, decor, etc. In addition, the incredible bakery features warm cider doughnuts, homemade ice cream, apple cider slushies, caramel apple cookies, tarts, and candied apples. On the weekend, a BBQ food truck is also on the premises. read more
Whenever I am in the Asheville area this is a must! The apple cider donuts are my favorite however the dumplings and fried pies are delicious too! I always ask for The hot apple cider donuts and omg they melt in your mouth! They always have the perfect amount of sugar on them and are irresistible! read more
Grandad Apples is favorite visited place for many vacationer at Asheville. It is 40 minutes away from the city. If you come at the right season, you can pick Apple at their farm. Their farm is so popular, the U pick season is short due to high demand. Grandad is not just the Apple attract visitors, they have corn maze there you can spent 30 to 40 minutes to fish the maze. They have children play area for the young. We enjoy our visit due to their fresh make apple pie and turnover. I like the turnover better. I can have a few of them. Don't forget the Apple slush. It is refreshing. At the Apple display area, you can have a try to taste with different types of apples. The area is certainly big. Allow 40 minutes to visit. They do have all kind of apples product. read more
Came for a couple hours, first started out at the corn maze which unfortunately did not meet expectations, maybe it was because we were 3 adults with no kids, but the maze took all of 10 minutes. $5 each for the corn maze, apple cannons, and cow train or $14 for all 3, cash only! The line for the bakery to get apple cider and donuts gets long quick. We waited 30 minutes in line while the smell of apple cider donuts teased us and our bellies. The donuts were warm and fresh, better the day you buy them, they were soggy the next day. I had a cider donut ice cream sandwich which consisted of vanilla soft serve ice cream in between two donuts, I also got a hot apple cider, and needed a second hand to eat the sandwich so I inhaled it quick before realizing there were picnic tables outside. Their Mountain Glacier dessert (Apple cider slushie, topped with vanilla soft serve ice cream and crumbled caramel apple cider cookies on top) seemed to be quite popular. Very nice farm also had a small patch of sunflowers to enjoy. We purchased a few of their fermented hard apple cider to drink later and it was a dry cider. read more
This place is a must see especially if you have children. A very well organized space with a beautiful view of a mountain range. Nothing like sitting on a rocking chair overlooking the mountains with a warm apple cider doughnut! There is also a corn maze for a fee and a sunflower and pumpkin patch. They offer a variety of apples, bagged or individual, as well as jams and jellies, honey and gift items. read more

Enjoyed our-stopping at Grandad's on our way out of Hendersonville. Wish we had the kiddos with us to partake in the corn maize, pumpkin patch, etc. Really here to say that I think the apple cider donut was the best thing I ate the entire time I was in Asheville. Not normally something I'd order but I had to try it. Warm and melt-in-your-mouth. Highly recommend and would definitely stop back by the next time I'm in the area. read more

This place is amazing! Plenty to do with kiddos, the apple cider and dounts are a must do! The views we so beautiful. Only thing I would say, it isn't that accessible for walkers, or wheelchairs... buy there is a beautiful area to sit and look at the mountains! read more

We arrived on a Saturday at noon ish. There was a long line to get bakery orders. We thought this was the line for the apples. Then I walked around back and saw that you pay for a bag in advance and then fill up your bag with apples. They had many varieties that I have never heard of before. Some of the lines were picked bare but we we're still able overfill our bag. Unfortunately, we felt like none of the varieties of apples we picked had much flavor. We we're looking forward to the tartness of a Granny Smith and were disappointed. The texture of the apples were very good and I'm still eating them all up. Probably will not return. read more
Fun apple orchard for the family. Took off a star just because the lines were ridiculously long. It took over an hour in line to get a donut. They really need to make additional lines/registers. Donuts were definitely amazing though. Might not be back just because of the line unfortunately. Will consider if they are able to improve efficiency in the future. read more

We came here on a Sunday afternoon... and that was a mistake! It is extremely busy on weekend afternoons, definitely go in the mornings. The line for the shop was wayyyyy too long, we had to circle around to find parking, and there was a just a ton of people. The apples were pretty much picked over, but it was still beautiful and very fun to go to. They have animals and other fun kid activities. We wanted to go apple picking in the mountains (so we could get a better variety of apples). After some research, this seemed like one of the more popular places to go. We went on a Sunday afternoon and it was pretty crowded. There were many things to do outside of apples. They have a train ride, corn maze, bounce house, and apple cannon. We were there to pick out own apples. In addition to pick your own, they have pre-picked apples with a larger variety of apples. They had 5 varieties when we were there for pick your own. They let you sample the different apples before you buy them. I was actually pretty disappointed in the pick your own. The trees were very picked over and it was hard to find good apples. I'm not sure if we just went too late in the season (early-mid October), but they advertise that that many varieties aren't ready until this time frame. They have a bakery with a lot of apple treats. We got an apple caramel oatmeal cookie and an apple dumpling. The cookie was very good, but the dumpling was kind of bland. They have a bunch of rocking chairs on the front of the barn where you can sit and enjoy the beautiful mountain view. We had a good time, but I would probably pick a different orchard next time to see if they had more apples for pick your own. read more
This is such a neat place! We came on an opening day and there were several people there. We found several delicious looking apple items and picked up an apple pie as we were leaving, along with some peaches...yep, peaches!! There is a super cool play area for kids! If you want to pick your own delicious apples, this is your spot! We found some farm animals around the side of the property that the kids would enjoy. I would come back here for the apple goods! I'm sure you are wondering...the apple pie was superb! Buttery crust and wonderful apples inside. Enjoyed it with ice cream when I got home! read more

Are you open in December?
No. Depending on the weather's cooperation, and availability of apples we try to stay open till the day before Thanksgiving. Hours cut back 9-5 and we are closed on Mondays in November.
Do they do the pumpkin patch and corn maze all year and if not will they be doing it this year? If so when?
We did have the pumpkin patch and corn maze going this season, but unfortunately all the activities have closed since October 31st 2020. The store will continue to be open until late November.…
