Serious horse players go to the "Room" - it's next to the Chandelier room. Used to be called the Sports Book but now it's just unnamed. The clubhouse side has outdoors table seating just past the finish line. Plenty of bars and food venues throughout for those so like to walk around and visit the paddock and walking ring. There are a few retired race horses you could see and take pictures of / in front of but they bite so you couldn't get too close. But, all the proceeds went to the Seal Beach Animal Shelter. We quickly purchased our tickets, but it was insane to see that multiple lines of people were then forced to use one single person escalator to get inside. By the time we got inside, floor level standing room only was available. We were happy to find some chairs and took a seat. To get the crowd going, Weinersnitzel t-shirts, stuffed animals, and hats were thrown into the crowd. The weiner races alternated with horse races. The dogs were beyond adorable and it was fun to watch even though it was tough to see at times. I didn't stay for all 15 heats which ended at 9:30 pm. The lines for food and alcohol were super long. Next time, I'll prepare better. I would bring food, drinks, and chairs for ground level seating. Wear a hat and bring sunscreen. A sign posted said no food or drinks. When it rains, they seal/close the arena, and if it poured, the arena can be closed for days. The inside stalls get HOT during summer - upwards of 110 degrees in the barn aisle. They do allow you to mount a fan (for a monthly charge) that helps a LOT. My horse's neighbors without fans would be soaked in sweat, and my horse would be dry. It's a far drive up and you will start to think you not going to the right way but you are. The gate has sunset ranch on it so you will know. Push the button to be let in the gate, park and you will have a steep hill to walk up to get to the top. If you get lost just call so they know but you won't miss your trip they are used to people getting lost. My whole crew was lost and we still completed the hour trip in the time frame given. My guide was William and he was great. He gave clear instructions and was very patient when we didn't catch on and was struggling to control our horses. The trail was calming and scary being as though you have to stay close to the edge of the cliff. The horses know what they are doing. I had a horse named tater tot and he was very calm and chill and once he got comfortable with me he was a great listener. When you return you will be assisted on getting down but if you don't have strong knees or good balance be very careful because the ground is very far down from the horse and you could really injure yourself. I didn't get injured but someone else easily could. If you forget to bring cash like I did no worries they have QR codes that you can and use for Venmo, Cash App, pay pal which I loved!
