SBGE 248 GMT 18k in all its masterful, ultra handcrafted, refined glory
    Gary I.

Grand Seikō Boutique is located on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. Why would Seikō want to be located on such high priced real estate? It turns out Grand Seikō is the Lexus of the Seikō line of watches. (However, Crédor by Seikō is even loftier.) I suppose Seikō left its name in the DNA since it takes pride in artisanal craftsmanship and has a relatively long history dating back to 1881 by Kintarō Hattori. (Rolex established 1905). My romance w/ the Grand Seikō line was piqued when I spied the SBGE 248 GMT in all its masterful, ultra handcrafted, refined glory, but decided to sleep on it. Then the Pandemic hit, and it made me realize, "What am I waiting for?" So I indulged as well as helping to keep money circulating in our economy. Most Grand Seikō are conservative w/ intricate, subtle, white dial & silver metal, but the SBGE 248 has a deep, royal blue, subtle, sunburst dial. Inner bezel is rich, mellow yellow 18 carat gold yet sharply lustrous. The outer golden bezel is a rugged , industrial, burnished 18k gold tone. The color contrast has a very similar look of the gold vs blue in the Fleur de Lis of the royal French flag.  The sapphire crystal is hyper clear, sharp. The stainless steel bracelet band has an elegant Zaratsu finish where most parts are satiny & some parts have a sharp, mirror, jewel like silver shine. The contrast of soft and sharp reflections is tastefully realized. Due to proprietary Spring Drive mechanism that incorporates mainly mechanical movement governed by a highly accurate, resonating quartz crystal, this Grand Seikō is accurate to within 15 seconds per month. By comparison, my Rolex Oyster DateJust gains up to 5 seconds per day. The energy source is the movement of the hand on which the watch is worn, or it can be wound by hand which is convenient when one owns more than one automatically wound watch since it's a bother having to stand there shaking every watch for a few minutes everyday to maintain the correct time. Conveniently, there is also a small gauge that indicates how much energy is left of its 72 hour fully wound reserve.   With its fine craftsmanship, micro-attention to detail, premium high quality of materials and hand made execution, Grande Seikō is a deal. Some Swiss makers with more emphasis on PR, hype, mass advertising would charge two to three times more.  Staff here is affable, understatedly enthusiastic, accommodating. Taking out links from the bracelet to fit my wrist was tedious with special screw driver required. While I waited en site for technical waistband link adjustment, I was offered Iwai Tradition Mars Whiskey Wine Cask Finish which is aged in a red wine barrel for one year for a fruity finish along w/ caramel, oak, vanilla, spicy cinnamon, allspice. Smooth, sweet  constrained by alcohol astringency & touch of acidity. Love this version of the Grand Seikō. I will take it to my grave until some grave robber steals it from me in 3,040 CE.    5 stars for handcrafted excellence.

I just had a fantastic experience here! For the past couple of months I had been torn between two very similar Grand Seiko GMTs, the SBGJ237 and SBGJ239--one being blue and one being green, among other slight differences. I happened to be in LA on vacation and figured I'd stop by and see the two watches side by side to make my decision easier. From the moment my wife and I walked in, Alex was a very welcoming host and was very happy to show me everything I wanted to look at, and let me look at the watches under both indoor and outdoor lighting conditions. As I scrutinized the watches, he was able to converse effortlessly about even the most minute details that many people probably don't even notice or care about, which made the shopping experience and decision making process that much more enjoyable. I went back and forth many times, staring at one watch and staring at the other, playing with them in my hands to see how they interacted with the light--and Alex was very patient as I did this. The SBJG239 as originally configured has a green dial, black and white two tone bezel, and brown leather strap. Alex then took the initiative and whipped out a black leather strap and held it against the watch so I could see what it looked like. The black leather against the black and white bezel looked SUPER sharp. Eliminating the brown strap allowed the green dial to really shine against this neutral bezel and strap color. After a few minutes of processing this, I pulled the trigger and I could not be happier. We celebrated with some Japanese whisky which was an awesome touch. Aside from helping me with the watch I wanted to purchase, Alex was very knowledgeable and explained all the technical details and artistry behind every other watch that caught my eye. This was my first experience ever, of buying a watch from a boutique. I had previously only purchased online or from the grey market. After this experience, I definitely am very inclined to make the drive up to LA the next time I am ready to treat myself to another Grand Seiko! I have been a huge Grand Seiko stan since I bought my SLGA001 earlier this year, and am even more of a stan now. The amount of craftsmanship and attention to detail you get with these watches is unsurpassed by any Swiss company in the same price range--it's almost sad. Every piece in this boutique was stunning, whether it was $5k or $60k+. If anyone is in the market for a Grand Seiko or is just curious I highly recommend stopping by this place!

"In Defense of the In-Person Retail Experience" Malls and brick & mortar retail stores alike were already in severe decline before the pandemic. And with the online retail experience rapidly improving in its convenience, it seems that people are ready to move on from ever having to physically step into a store. Buying my first Grand Seiko at this boutique gave me immense hope that in the hands of the right people, the in-person experience will be, in every single way, superior to its online counterpart. Alexander was that person for me when I purchased a beautiful SBGA211 "Snowflake" for my wedding. Unlike representatives from competing watch retailors, Alexander really went above and beyond to make me feel that every dollar I spent was absolutely worth it. Although I ended up spending past my budget, never did I feel uncomfortable considering the cheaper options. It was just the right amount of pretentiousness with none of the condescending undertones of buying a luxury watch. He was passionate about not only the fine details of the watches I was considering, but also about the heritage and craftsmanship of Grand Seiko. This really bolstered my confidence in the brand and for someone like me who subscribes to fanboy-levels of brand loyalty, Grand Seiko has earned a customer for life thanks to the experience that Alexander provided.

In front of the GS Boutique with my Sea of Clouds SBGP017

Bought my Iceman SBGE275 and Sea of Clouds SBGP017 from the GS Boutique here. Both Xavier and Alex helped me out each time. Lots of selection but just so happened the two pieces I purchased from them were special limited editions.

If you're interested in Grand Seiko, there is no better place to go (and this is coming from a guy who drove down from the Bay Area). Eric and Xavier are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. It was a pleasure geeking out about watches with them as I bought my first GS watch. I've spoken with several other GS retailers and noone came close to their professionalism and responsiveness. Also, their selection is superb (even some difficult-to-get models).

Alex was super friendly and knowledgeable. Definitely made the buying process fun and enjoyable. Saw some reviews at a location closer to me and decided to drive to this location and was well worth it. They had stock, plenty of selection and free parking just around the corner. Couldn't ask for a better spot to buy a luxury watch. Thank you again Alex for a wonderful experience.

I went to Rodeo Drive last Tuesday for some watch window shopping. After visiting a couple of watch boutiques, I stumbled upon an odd facing door and was surprised to learn that it is a Grand Seiko boutique. Michael and his lady colleague greeted me and I inquired if they have the 2018 Baselworld timepieces for viewing. Both of them were patient in showing the timepieces as well as in answering my queries, while also helping in my final decision. Eventually I went home with a nice souvenir and a proud owner of a GS watch. I commend Michael for his exceptional service. Don't hesitate to visit the place and inquire from Michael. He's a great guy!

So, an update on my experience with this boutique. I came in September 2019 to a buy an extra bracelet link for my Grand Seiko and was told it would have to be ordered from Japan and could take a while to get here. I was perfectly okay with that... Now, flash forward to January 2020 and I never received the call from the boutique from Alexander telling me I had received the link. I bought the link on September 9, 2019 and I called on January 27, 2020 to see if something went wrong with my link or if it even came in. Alex answers my call and he looks up my order and it had been sitting in a drawer for weeks (possibly months) because it was filed under the wrong name and the link was NEVER shipped out. Alexander apologized immediately, but what's crazy is that I ordered the link through him and NOT the other employee. This is a horrible example of customer service follow up due to sheer negligence. I never would have received the link had I never called!!! I know it's just a watch link, but parts like these are expensive for a high-end watch like this. Also, I had planned on coming here to get another Grand Seiko for my collection and now I'm re-considering going to another boutique for my business. This was just poor customer service and the only reason I am meeting them halfway with the updated review was because Alexander was so professional and my passion for the brand in general. It's just unfortunate that this happened. This is unacceptable and ahould not be swept under the rug!

Amazing place. Service was awesome (Xavier is so knowledgeable and kind) and their selection is, to say the least, impressive. I've owned many Seikos, Omegas, Rolex's and others, never a Grand Seiko. This is the watch I would wear for my whole life. Thank you.

The staffs are really nice and friendly. They showed me a lot of beautiful pieces, from their quartz pieces, automatic, gmts, including the highly praised, 'snowflake' and the limited edition, 'peacock'. I finally decided to cop the snowflake'; that piece is just so beautiful and the sweep of the spring drive movement is sooo smooth, I just couldn't help myself. I encourage you all to visit this place, especially if you are looking to buy a watch; you'll never know what you'll find. I came just to look around and came out with arguably one of the most beautiful watch ever produced.

Michael pan is a grand seiko professional who helped me during my visit to the store. He is very nice and friendly. I tried many watches from their great collection. They are the only grand seiko boutique in the world and They have many rare time pieces in the store. I ended up with the beautiful peacock dial. I recommend anyone who is interested in grand seiko time pieces to visit their shop, I'm sure you will be amazed by their collection.

    The sunburst blue dial!
