I went in for the simplest task on Earth: swapping the battery of a humble Casio. A literal two-minute job. Ten minutes later, the clerk returns. - Sir? Sir? - Yes? - So, the watch is working, but look. He holds up my watch: the minute hand is dangling, swinging with gravity. I give the look. He vanishes again to "fix it." Another ten minutes. - Sir? Sir? - Yes. - The hands fell off. The update no sane customer expects: Not one but all the hands are floating inside the case sliding along the edge, bunched up with gravity. - But it's working. We're going to fix it. We will charge you only the $15 for the battery. How generous. He takes my name, compliments it (because why not), gives me no receipt, and sends me away without my watch. Two hours later, I get the call. - Your watch is ready. I drive back. Watch is ticking, price is now $17, and while I'm literally standing there with my card out, he takes a full phone call. I wait, of course. I come home and see that the hands of my watch have been scratched. See the picture. Whatever they're doing here, it's not watch repair. I've been meaning to get back to Timeland to say thank you for fixing my late father's watch. Few of my possessions pass the threshold to qualify as invaluable. This watch or more respectfully, timepiece, came from the first Ben Bridge shop. My father joined the U.S. Navy when it welcomed Filipinos following WW2. For quite some time he was stationed in Bremerton, Washington, which is a ferry ride to Seattle. Herb and his brother Bob were the sons of Ben Bridge. Herb's service in the Navy during the war gave him a special connection with sailors. My father recalled seeing Herb barking for customers outside the family's downtown shop. He and my father, Emilio, would become lifelong friends but in the early days of their friendship, he would purchase all his jewelry, including my mother's wedding ring, from Herb. Two of Dad's lifelong keepsakes were his Omega Seamaster and this Zodiac diver's watch. After my father passed away, the Zodiac came into my possession. It was over 30 years old and needed an overhaul much like the cleaning and repairs the Omega had received when I had the Costa Mesa Ben Bridge Jeweler send it to Switzerland for a month. When my father and Herb Bridge were alive, Mr. Bridge wrote a letter that gave me a discount at any Ben Bridge Jeweler I visited. So, the diamond ring that sealed the deal with my wife was purchased through the sales associate in Costa Mesa. My wife had purchased my Tag Heuer watch, which Timeland repaired a week before I brought in the toughest challenge of them all, Dad's Zodiac. The Zodiac not only had the expected wear and tear of its initial years on the ocean while my father was in the Navy, but serious damage caused by an inept jewelry and watch repair shop in West Los Angeles. Cleaning out the salt, replacing the scratched crystal, and replacing rusted components were straightforward. The unskilled repair shop had opened the mainspring barrel, forced in wrong-size jewel bearings, and fiddled with the wind system. I kept the broken watch in storage for a decade without hope of ever wearing it on my wrist. When I brought my Tag Heuer in, I asked Timeland's owner whether she had heard of Zodiac. She told me Zodiac was from a bygone era of mechanical miracles before batteries. I was advised to bring in the Zodiac. The repair person treated my watch as a puzzle he would devote hours of tinkering and more hours of thought. He remarked of my good fortune that the replacement parts were available on eBay 50 years after the watch was made. I submit this long review out of gratitude that goes beyond the repair cost, which was very reasonable, considering. If you have a vintage timepiece that you may have given up as a futile dream, I urge you to bring it to Timeland. The staff appreciates the ingenuity of a discontinued brand and, most of all, relates to your sentimental affection for something one-of-a-kind and meaningful as a Swiss watch. By the way, I have been wearing the watch every day for the last two weeks. I'm adapting to the routine of winding it every morning. It's worth every moment of devotion while I contemplate how a device with a spring in place of a lithium battery can keep a precise measurement of the time. read more

Prices were extremely reasonable. Mother and son and staff know their stuff. I brought in a recently purchased pre owned Rolex which they inspected, set, sized and taught me how to operate as a 1st time Rolex owner.
