I was told by the receptionist that North Pointe's insurance program changed and therefore, I owed money. I stated that I was never made aware of this and there are laws protecting consumers. They stated they would look into it. I was told that the bill was reduced, but they expected me to pay half. Again, I told them that I did not think this was appropriate due to the fact of never being told that I would need to pay anything due to their policy change which I should have been informed about. I pay for dental insurance to avoid having to pay for routine cleanings. Plus my husband is ill and not working so if I knew I would have to pay extra, I wouldn't have booked the cleaning here. They said that they look into it and if I didn't hear from them that I could count on the bill being forgiven. I didn't hear from them, but I did get a bill from collections. I'm livid. I thought we were working on handling this together and I thought it was handled, yet they sent it to collections. They lack accountability and compassion.

I was assured that they were. However, after our visits, we received a bill for more than $300 for services that we believed would be covered by insurance. When I contacted the billing department multiple times to resolve the issue, I was told that the office charges more than what my insurance allows for a cleaning. Had this been explained upfront, I could have made a more informed decision about receiving care there. I was also disappointed with how the billing situation was handled. Despite repeated attempts to discuss the matter, no meaningful resolution was offered. We even received a past-due notice before ever receiving a proper statement outlining the charges. The clinical experience itself was not particularly positive. The hygienist was chewing gum during the appointment and was not especially gentle. My son was given fluoride treatment without anyone discussing it with me beforehand or asking for permission. The office environment also felt dated and less welcoming than other dental practices we have visited locally. Overall, between the unexpected charges, lack of communication regarding costs, billing frustrations, and the quality of the patient experience, this was not a positive experience for our family.
