The staff was really kind and understanding of my issues and offered a list of different options and suggestions. The hygienist who assisted me with xrays was extremely knowledgable and very kind. I really liked the lack of visual noise and appreciated the host of bird feeders outside the window to be able to watch. Not only are they always willing to work with my…read morecrazy schedule (since I don't live in Michigan anymore!) but they are so kind and treat my teeth with expertise and care. In 2006, I tripped and busted my front four teeth. (Oh, college...) I had them fixed by a dentist in Ann Arbor, where I lived at the time, but it was a temporary fix. I moved to Florida shortly after and who I thought was a good dentist in Orlando gave me a ton of fillings (I'd never had a cavity before) and also replaced the front four teeth with veneers. I moved back to Grand Rapids in 2010 and really needed a dentist who would be careful and honest with my 10 fillings and 4 veneers. That's when I found Dr. Firlik! Since then, one of my veneers snapped out and I had to get an implant. Dr. Firlik along with another doctor she referred me to gave me an amazing implant. She also has refilled many of the cracked fillings I have from my lovely Florida dentist (eye roll). She's given me a desperately needed bite guard and most recently gave me crowns I needed after some molars could not be refilled from cracking. My mouth is insanely healthy and I can't thank Dr. Firlik enough. Something I like most about her is that she and her team are constantly trying to improve themselves by going to conferences and learning more about their profession. In my opinion, that puts them light years ahead of other dentists I've researched. In fact, I respect Dr. Firlik so much that I've lived in LA for 3 years and I fly home to still have her crew do my dental work. I just can't find someone who seems to compare to her, even in a city as large as Los Angeles. As far as the insurance goes, the team does their best in giving you insurance estimates. As they will tell you, their estimates are just that - estimates. You should always do your homework before agreeing to intense dental work if it is something that may end up being costly. I've paid them thousands of dollars over the years as I've had many different insurance plans over the 8 years I've seen them, since I've worked different places as a contractor, full time, and as a grad student. (I have gotten A LOT of dental work, so these costs are normal especially with my sometimes low coverage/high deductible dental plans.) I cannot think of a time where they weren't nearly perfectly on the nose with my estimates and if they were wrong, it wasn't far off. Still - I make sure I understand what is covered myself as well before I agree to the work. A good practice for anyone dealing with America's confusing and oftentimes poorly managed insurance companies. Thank you Dr. Firlik for always fitting me in and for treating my mouth with care! The actual crown was done in house and actually in one day. Very happy with the outcome. Yesterday I was there for a routine cleaning about one hour in the chair and done. I have been going to Nelson for as long as I can remember, over 10 years (pretty sure over 15…read moreyears). in 2024 my company switched dental providers to an out of network provider. Nelson was not able to tell me in advance if they could work with my new provider but I wanted to keep them as my families dentist. My new provider left a gap in my coverage for my preventative care despite the fact that they paid more then my in network provider for the same 100% covered preventative care. As a long term patient I requested them to work with me on the gap. This is when everything changed. Nelson's billing department insisted that this was a co-pay (it is not) and threatened to send me to collections if I did not cover the gap. I was treated extremely rudely by the billing department as well as harsh email communication from Matt Nelson and hate that I am leaving this company feeling like I was bullied after such a long relationship.
