It is not an easy process because so many souvenirs are made outside of the community, village, country that I'm visiting. That is why it was such a treat to find Westside 40. This is a for profit shop in the same building as the Granby chamber of commerce. It hosts locally produced items from around 60 artisans from the surrounding community in Granby. Unique artsy-fartsy items are on sale. Granby is located just north east of Denver, under a two hour drive. Oh wow - the drive itself is worth it alone to visit Granby! I went in June and there was still snow sticking to the ground along the mountain pass before Granby. NATURE! MOUNTAINS! Then, after you pass all this green goodness, there is Granby nestled in a beautiful valley. Yes, it was a treat just getting there. Real community inspired and created souvenirs!

He honestly should have a Joker collar rather than a Batman one since he's a bit of a villain, but that's neither here nor there! Staff was friendly, though prices here were a bit higher than some of the other stores in this area, though I suspect there's more hand/homemade things here than in other outlets in the vicinity.

The wife decided to stop here and she and the kid found a cap that can be customized. The kid chose to customize with her initials. It turned out to be adorable. Besides caps for kids, there is a selection of different clothes for women, apparently a wine station, and other stuff for women that I did not really pay attention to, but the store seemed to be very popular with women.

Three women were behind the counter talking the entire time that I walked around their store. Not once did anyone acknowledge me. Not one simple greeting, not one Can I help you?, not one! I left, saw my husband waiting outside for me and told him 'I want to do an experiment to see what might happen if I walk in with a man. Sadly, what I thought would happen, happened. We recieved a greeting and within seconds. The owner/manager walked up to us and asked if she could help us. I told her the story and she apologized. I couldn't truly identify what three women it was, but I'm confident she knew (wasnt like there were ten working that morning). My first trip to Estes, my first store to walk into and this is how I was treated. During a recent excursion with an out of town friend I discovered "The Shop". A lover of all things…read morethrift and consignment I was thrilled to find this gem in the heart of downtown Nederland. What can I say, the sale rack just outside the store drew us right in. Upon entering the shop I was surprised by it's size (it spans two rooms). Additionally the shop has encased jewelry as well as locally made jewelry featured near the cash register. The shop featured day to day clothing, work attire, warm weather gear, accessories and footwear. Unfortunately I didn't get to take as much time as I would have liked in the shop (after all I had an out of town guest who refuses to wear second hand clothing). I was surprised indeed by all the great finds, locally made leather earrings, astronaut Cabbage Patch Dolls (Lila Brandy my cabbage patch doll would have loved a little astronaut friend), cowboy boots, and loads of outerwear. I'll definitely drop in the next time I'm in town, after all this shop is just steps away from my favorite Nederland Cafe (New Moon Cafe and bakery).
