Came here today for a business lunch. The service was great, very attentive waitress and prompt service. The food was delicious as well. I got the Oyama panini with the lentil soup of the day. The panini had chorizo, field mushrooms, arugula emmental cheese and the flavours worked. The lentil soup was decent and what you would expect of it. Overall, a great place for a business lunch as the service is good and quick, the prices are very fair for downtown and the food is solid. read more

The Kettle Valley Semillon Sauvignon Blanc recommended by the wait-staff was fantastic. It had bright citrus aromas, warm tropical notes with a touch of honey sweetness. Very wonderful white wine to imbibe on a warm summer day. The cheese plate was very disappointing. I ordered the aged farmhouse cheese, buffalo brie, goat gouda, and aged gouda. The cheeses were not funky or stinky, but they all tasted like they had been left out of the fridge for too long and took on a somewhat sweaty flavour. The "crisps" were dry white bread slices, the "spiced" nuts were not spiced, and the honey was not truffled despite the advertising. All around disappointing. read more

After a few visits to Grain Tasting bar, it quickly became my local . The atmosphere is modern but not austere. The service is prompt and the wait staff goes to great lengths to engage without over engaging: friendly, pleasant but not in a way that breaks up conversation at your table. There's a great selection of local seasonal beers and the food menu consists of a small selections of upscale pub food (pizza, meatballs, spinach dip) that's well executed. I went to grain because I thought they would have an extensive beer menu. They don't. Even with a name like 'grain' they only have 5 beer on tap. They are all local beer and the one I had was pretty good., but I wouldn't head here again for beer. read more

My night started fairly late last night around 10:30 , so me and my boyfriend decided to try this place. When we first walked we were a bit confused because there was no host stand. Standing at the bar were 5 wait staff , just having a conversation amongst themselves. The concerning part is that they all saw us walk in and NO one wanted to greet us. We had asked if the upstairs was closed and I felt the response given was a tad rude. As one of the ladies offered to let us look at the menu, the two other girls standing around rolled their eyes at us. Because it was late, we didn't want to go anywhere else so we settled. We had the BBQ chicken pizza which was delicious. We also had the pulled pork sliders. The pulled pork sliders were presented to us on a plate with smeared mayo along the side of the plate *yikes* the worse part was that someone did attempt to wipe it off before sending it out to us, but decided "fuck it just send it out" Not the best experience. read more

Small portions for a larger price but the tasting flights were great, sampled the oysters (A+), pork belly tacos, duck confit tacos, bbq chicken pizza, and Spinach dip. Ever been to a place where all the staff seem to love their job and working together? It always translates into a great experience with great service. Grain is one of those places. The staff are upbeat and fun, attentive but not intrusive. They aren't smiling because they have to... They are just naturally creating a positive environment. They make for a great experience. The room is newly renovated. It has a great view down Burrard street with lofty windows which open in the summer. The bar is tastefully decorated with a great backlit bar top and a fine whiskey back bar display. There are TVs throughout the room but none so big as to dominate the visual experience. The seating varies from booths to tables to couches, a place where you can be comfortable no matter what your preference. The cocktail selection is varied, the beers on tap are all craft brewed, and they have a fine selection of high quality spirits. The menu is slightly limited, centered around charcuterie, pizzas and light sandwiches. Don't come here hoping for a steak or seafood. The pricing is on the high end compared to local competition, as is expected in a hotel bar or lounge. They don't have a local rewards program, which is a drawback for a nearby resident. This discourages locals from becoming regulars when paying tourism prices. The staff, however, will keep you coming back. read more

The Bar was okay. My husband and I both had drinks and a shared plate. His drinks came out correct, my flight of wine was good but one of the wines was wrong. It wasn't what I asked for. We ordered the stuffed garlic bread. It was good, but burnt. Our server Gabi was very short with us and hardly ever checked in. I came here on a sunny Friday evening where all the patios are packed with people and any location with a view of Coal Harbour has at least an hour line-up. I liked the fact that you can find a table and just sit there without having to wait for someone to find you a seat. The decor is nice, reminds you of the glamour era of Chicago with oversized stools, low lounge tables and diner style settings. Our server was very nice and friendly and the service was timely. She only interrupted our conversations when she suspected we needed a drink or wanted to order food. I started off with a Cypress Mountain Tea, with fresh blueberries and mint which was a refreshing cocktail perfect to end a sunny and warm day. Then ordered the Charcuterie with only meats, yes they do that here. The okanagan wine prosciutto was out of this world. The Charcuterie plate came with a some honey that was "decorated" with truffle oil and some delicious walnuts, roasted to perfection. Needless to say, I'll be back to taste more of the amazing cured meats and sip it down with flavourful cocktails. read more

Nice atmosphere, nice restaurant, average appetizers for the price, but I paid $17 for a tiny chicken jambalaya that was done in several bites. It wasn't even good jambalaya and didn't have any sort of sausage or spice. I have never eaten jambalaya that tasted like fried rice. At least the drinks were fairly okay. read more

My wife, my brother-in-law and I went to Grain to get our brunch-time drunk on a few Sundays ago and it was fantastic. It was over the holidays, so it was very quiet. The service was very friendly and helpful, as we had a lot of cocktail questions. We each ordered three of their fancy cocktails over the course of our meal, so we kept the bartender very busy - she did an excellent job and all the drinks were a hit. My personal favourite was the Vancouver Fog, a delicious, boozy take on a London Fog, with Earl Grey-infused whiskey. HEAVEN. The Cherry Blossom was also a hit with me, the girl-drink-drunk. I also had the Caesar, which was not my favourite. What weird stuff is everyone putting Caesars these days? Pickle juice? Too much lime? Lately, all the Caesars I have feature this off-putting taste. Anyway... We all shared an excellent charcuterie platter before our individual meals, which I highly recommend if you enjoy the meats and also, the cheeses. I had the duck and waffles, which was really good (could have used a titch more sauce or maybe another egg but otherwise it was grand). This is one of my favorite after work places. However it can get pretty loud and the seating is self serve the food and drinks make up for those faults. The portion sizes are huge. Come hungry or ready to share. The bar tenders are excellent and they have a great bottle selection. read more

Very strange European hostess doesn't like to be in background of photos u take here and will intimidate and harass you into erasing photos on your own phone. Very bizarre. You take it up with the GM and he brushes it off. Confucius Say hostess girl who over reacts to being in background probably afraid of popping up in auto scan of more risqué sites. Anyway. It's my best educated guess as to reason why over reacting towards something done so commonly these days. Selfies. Photos. What upset me more is the Douchy management that thought nothing of it. Yes. I did call the GM douchy. This is not the Hotel No Tell on Vegas Strip. It's a God Damned major brand in a major tourist destination. GM should get his act together and stop being such a liability to the name of Hyatt. It's a damned shame it's directly in front of my office. I can't tell you how many folks I've told this douchy GM story to about unprofessional conduct of staff and management unbecoming of the Hyatt name. read more

Went to the Grain tasting lounge at the Hyatt hotel for lunch with a co-worker and what a disaster. We were given a temporary menu printed on a piece of paper offering a few salads and sandwiches. We ordered a couple of sandwiches and it took 53 minutes for our lunch to arrive. It was the lunch hour but only 3 other tables were in the restaurant, so its not like they were busy. Apparently the one and only cook was pulled up to the banquet kitchen for the entire week and the Grain was operating without a cook or kitchen. All the food was coming from upstairs from Mosaic restaurant which explains the lack of menu selection and untimely fashion. Our server was good and did her best to answer all our questions and apologized for the mess. She offered to call a manager for us but we declined as we had to eat and get back to the office. What kind of management is running this place? We definitely will not be back read more

Stopped in for a night cap after going to the Richmond Night Market. Nice, small selection of local craft brews with four on tap. Samples were offered on the drafts. I asked about their specialty drinks for my girlfriend. Christine, the bartender asked about her preferences and modified the Ruby Tuesday drink to fit her taste. She loved it. We ordered a pizza that came out under done. They fixed it and took it off our bill. The pizza was good, thin crust, nice fresh ingredients. Nice experience! read more

Wow. Talk about lack of effort and enthusiasm. Went here last Thursday for happy hour with friends. Our server was very disengaged with our table. She really seemed like she didn't want to be there. We had to ask about HH-what was available? Is there a menu? The happy hour food special for Thursday was the spinach dip for $7-the plate it was served in was about the size of a tea saucer and calling it a "dip" was a huge exaggeration; I would say it was more of a smear. We also had the meze & naan bread that was equally lacklustre. The place was about a 1/4 full at 5pm, (mainly after work guys in suits) but when we left close to 7pm the place was virtually empty. Thursday night in Vancouver in a hotel bar and there was barely a sole!!! Why do some hotels put so little effort in their bars?!? We got the hint we were done when, without request, our server delivered 4 glasses of water to our table. The staff were all standing at the bar service area instead of engaging with the few customers there. There are too many other better places to go in Vancouver to return to Grain. read more

Went here for a drink after work with my husband last night. The drinks on the menu are way over-priced for what they are. I ordered the Ruby Tuesday since the waitress told us about it and it was the most disgusting drink I've ever tasted. It tasted EXACTLY like the red NyQuil. Gross. I took two small sips and realized there was no way I was going to be able to drink it, so I called the waitress over and told her how disgusting it was and ordered a new drink. I stayed at the hotel, and initially only patronized the bar because it was midnight and I was staying at the Hyatt. What a surprise. The bartender was good enough to get me to return three separate times over the next several days, and I was not disappointed. I'm a bit of a food snob, and, having worked in the service industry, am quite critical of anything less than outstanding service. Most notable was the bartender Kurt, who not only remembered my name, but recommended drinks and flights based on my preferences. He even made a drink that he concocted - it was awesome. Came in here to watch the blue jays as it was the only place with TV's and a seat! The inside / decor is nice. Service was friendly, but very inefficient. The nachos we ordered were cold, the cheese and meat platter had stale bread and took 30 mins to arrive - which is too long considering the place was 1/2 empty. They have a long way to go if they ever want to draw crowds away from joeys and cactus - which by compassion - are so much better. They are fortunate to have a hotel attached, otherwise, I'm sure the doors would be closed. read more
