I've lived in Pleasanton 24 years and this was my first time coming to a celebration of life at Graham-Hitch Mortuary. I came today to pay respects to a friend who passed away too early. Graham-Hitch has a beautiful chapel inside and is very peaceful. The lobby is spacious and was perfect for displaying photos of my friend's life. It was a great memorial service for my friend. My Grandfather and my Father both were cremated here and had their rememberance services held here as well. Yesterday my grandmother passed away and I knew I wanted it to be handled here. My grandmother said to me that its just easier here and we are familiar with it so when the time comes just make it easy for yourself and choose the same place. So that's what I did. The funeral director met with me at 10:30am and I was done signing and choosing everything by 11:30am. I chose just cremation, no embalming, no pre-service or viewing, no viewing of the cremation, no casket or fancy urn, just the basic everything. I will get a nice urn later and have them transfer her from the temporary container to a nice urn i pick out online. Now you can go all out and select the most expensive everything but that is not what I did. I likely will have a service or rememberance a few months from now. The director who assisted me was very spft spoken, clear, and had a nice demeanor. All things that put you at ease when you are definitely not at ease. My one tip would be to call, make an appointment and be sure to bring the deceased birth certificate, and marriage certificate if you have them. It will help fill things out much faster. So grateful that this place is clear and transparent on costs, affordable in my opinion, and makes things easy! read more

I am so grateful to Deanna for helping me plan my husband's and my cremation and burial. I am preplanning for myself and my husband- though my husband's death will occur soon, so it was important to have burial in place. Deanna explained everything so clearly, and made the process so simple, even though I just went in for my husband I decided to do my own plan as well- what a gift to my kids, I thought. It only took a few minutes and I've taken something off their plate at a very sad time in the future. I also appreciate tremendously the information and help she gave me regarding my husband's burial at a military cemetery. Since the military shaped my husband's life, I am thrilled he can be buried in a cemetery recognizing his service- and I can be buried with him! I had cremated my mother in 2004 with Graham-Hitch and had a very good experience- as good as funerary experiences can be. So I was happy to go back and have another wonderful experience. I was given cards with my policy numbers on them- I merely need to produce my husband's card to activate the burial plans (and I gave my card to my son- so all he has to do is call Graham-Hitch when the time comes for my burial.) This is a slowly evolving review of the facilities. Normally, this isn't something you would regularly review unless it happens to you. In this case we had the unfortunate circumstance where my father passed away on Christmas Eve. Since we had no advance directive on what to do when it happens, we struggled to research facilities that handled cremation. Here's the bottom line. If a loved one is in the morgue in the hospital, the hospital will only hold the body for a few days before moving it to somewhere else. Since my father passed away just before a holiday, we had an additional day before we had to scramble to find a mortuary. We met Dennis at their office in Danville. He provided step-by-step instructions on what to do. We did check out other facilities, and eventually came back here. Value wise, is was cheaper than Queen of Heaven ($9,000) and Oakmont ($32,000) to bury our father. Cost wise, it WAS better value here at Graham-Hitch. The benefit here is the use of their facilities which is nondenominational, meaning you can have a religious leader of any religion hold a service here. The room, which had no photos available (so I took some) can hold up to 200 people. They also have an AV room with drop down screen. They quickly moved my father to their refrigeration after we confirmed the paperwork. Our service is in a week. read more

Our family had a very bad experience here just a month ago. With specific instructions as to flowers, and her personal items , there was no attention paid to the instructions given to the funeral home. This resulted in lost personal items , wrong flowers ordered. Very sloppy non communication within the staff. I feel as if my Mom was cheated in some way. I have sleepless nights over this. Sure had to take some time to write this review. We had called Graham-Hitch Mortuary, since they are local and we like to support local business. We called on August 21st hearing a very pleasant, soothing voice of Perla. After the call we received an email in few minutes with all the details. She had explained all the details in accordance to our HINDU religious believes and asked us if there was something different we would like to do, it blew us off, it was very personal and accommodating. Perla and everyone at the location, along with the Jess Spencer ( where my father was cremated) where very kind and helpful. With our rituals sometimes it takes little longer, but were not pushed at all on any occasion. We had few families and they all like the place and service. I highly recommend to all, Hindus, Jains, Sikh friends as well. Perla, was very very helpful, communicating, efficient and compassionate. We would like to personally thank Perla for all her kind attention to all details and follow ups. And thanks to Graham-Hitch Mortuary and Jess Spencer Crematory for the best support. My father passed away unexpectedly and everyone here was nice enough but there were a few things that we experienced that were unacceptable. Because of Covid, we did not do any sort of viewing or service for my dad. My mom, being very spiritual, did arrange to have his body blessed by a priest. My dad wasn't embalmed or dressed or anything for this blessing so my husband brought a blanket from home that my dad had made for me to cover his body during the blessing. My mom reiterated MULTIPLE TIMES to the mortuary that he was to be cremated naked and we needed whatever was with him during the blessing to be given back. After a couple weeks, she still hadn't gotten the blanket back and kept asking for it to be returned to which there was no reply. Graham-Hitch finally got back to her yesterday and notified her the blanket got cremated with the body because "there was a miscommunication somewhere down the line." It seems like this should be one of the main tenets of their jobs and in this line of work that should NOT HAPPEN. Besides this incident, there were other things done within the entire process where clearly the person assisting us did not fully listen to or read (if it was an email) the things we were requesting and in the end were done wrong... just none as severe as the occurrence described. With each mistake made, the response was always a disingenuous sorry with a "well, it's already done." read more

As rough as it is to write about - I've been to Graham-Hitch twice. Once about 12 years ago when my grandfather passed away and then another time about 2 years ago when my aunt passed. This Mortuary handled both arrangements for my family in a loving, understanding, and patient manner. Of course well all know that during times like these - the topic of death is very hard for many to swallow. The ceremonies were beautiful and the building itself is very nice on the inside. Our nanny of 12 years passed away about two years ago and this is the mortuary that handled the arrangements for the family. The woman's daughter had such a hard time with the death, as I'm sure you can imagine, and she worked so hard to get everything just perfect for her mom. Mission accomplished. Everything was beautiful. The staff at the mortuary was very present, but in a supportive way, and in no way intrusive. They were amazing during a very hard time. They worked so well with our nanny's daughter making sure she was happy with everything and it was obvious they understood that the daughter too needed everything just perfect because she loved her mother so much. Not a single detail was missed. Very nice people. Very professional, but also supportive in a very human way. While I never hope to have to hire a mortuary, I'm sure at some point I will need these services as my own parents age. This is absolutely where I will go. read more

My sister and I visited five different mortuaries/cemeteries trying to decide where we would hold my father's viewing and memorial service. Of the five we visited, we narrowed it down to Graham Hitch. The other places we checked out felt more like they were trying to run a business, more concerned about the money we were spending rather than focusing on our requests. After we met with Kay at Graham Hitch, we instantly knew this would be the place we would hold our service. She was very compassionate and put a lot of attention on helping us prepare for our service and working with us on the cost. We also met with David and Alan to fill out the paperwork and it was a pleasure working with them as well. Everyone I had the pleasure of interacting with at Graham Hitch was very professional and I knew I was in good hands. Alan helped coordinate the delivery of my father from the coroner's office, and prepared him for the viewing and he did an amazing job. I am very thankful for the work these people have done in making this painful experience as smooth as possible. The day of the memorial service, there were a few members of the staff that helped me coordinate everything, and it all went off without a hitch. My Father had passed away in Arizona, but we planned to commit his ashes at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery. I called Graham-Hitch to see if they could help us with to arrange the California Burial Permit. When I called the Mortuary, it was clear that I was in the hands of experts. They knew all about the National Cemetery and gave me a great overview of the process and options. The Mortuary reminded me why we wanted to live in a great community like Pleasanton. Not only did they arrange for the burial permit, they also called the Cemetery to arrange the date and time for the ceremony. For all of this help, they only charged us for the burial permit at cost. They helped put my Mother and my minds at ease in getting this all set up. It is great to see a business more interested in taking care of the community than making a quick buck. read more

Two weeks ago, our 20-year-old son, who was a student at UC Irvine, died unexpectedly through a tragic sequence of events.
