The Inn itself has a rustic vibe with wood everything, quilted blankets on beds, and rocking chairs on the porch. The basement is super fun with foosball, ping pong, pool table and a bowling lane. Everything felt damp and nothing dried when hung up. The staff was friendly, helpful and efficient. Since we were relatively local we always had something to gab about. It's so nice to see this area recovering. I think it will be a while for business to pick back up and they may need to do some creative marketing to reignite the spark. If you stay here ask for the discount that gets applied to the boat tour.

There's a gas fireplace and a big patio to watch the river and enjoy meals.

When I roll into a town and find the hotel room prices in excess of $100 I always check out the…read morelocal B&B's. One because it helps support a small business, two it's almost always a better experience and three cause you get a breakfast that's actually worth eating. When it comes to the Brevard area this is certainly the case and the Key Falls Inn is with out question the spot to go lay your head be it for just one night or for an extended stay! I rolled into the Key Falls Inn on a Wednesday around 5pm completely unannounced without any reservations, and having already checked there website figured no one else was staying there since the online reservation system showed all rooms as available. For nearly every bed and breakfast out there this is when customers will almost always find you at your worst. I located Bryan, outside serving meals to some people visiting for dinner, apparently the run a full service restaurant as well, more on that later. He was more than happy to accommodate my request for a room for the evening and had Kim show me the different rooms that where available. I had already seen the photos of all the rooms on the website but the website photos that are extremely dated and in need of updates really don't do the place any justice. First note on the rooms is they where all spotless and ready for guests. While this may be normal for hotels, when it comes to a B&B not expecting guests this is rare. I had originally planned on going for the cheapest room available, the Cochran Room, but decided against it since I was only there for one night and the Cochran's bathroom isn't connected to the room. I ended up going with the Pisgag Forest Room which is the only bedroom on the first floor. I am not sure I would normally have gone with this room, since its located on the first floor where all the common areas are, but on this visit I was the only person staying so I wasn't overly concerned about noise levels. Once I was checked in I took a walk along the nature trail to the Key Falls. The walk is a short, and only takes about five minutes. The trail could use some work as there are a number of blow downs but nothing that isn't manageable. At the end of the trail you will find a sitting area with a fire ring and the top of the falls themselves. Its worth noting that if you want to see a full view of the falls, when you reach the road that crosses the trail hang a right and walk a couple hundred yards up the gravel road to reach the base of the falls. Sadly during my visit water levels had been low and with not much rain over the summer the falls where mostly just a trickle. That said if its been rainy I can see the falls as being a beautiful site. After my short trail walk, I head over to the outdoor eating area to grab some dinner. They do have a full restaurant onsite with a menu that changes on a weekly basis. As soon as I saw the menu I was a bit surprised at how low the prices where for dinner. The first thought I had was "there is no way these are dinner portions". When my meal arrived my thoughts where confirmed and found that the serving portions are extremely small. I ended up actually ordering two separate meals for dinner of the menu. While they may have been small in size both where amazingly good, and at only $9.00 each the total cost of two still came up lower than I would have expected to pay for a dinner of that quality. After dinner I headed to my room and almost immediately feel asleep. The room was nice, clean, and the bed was super comfortable. I could have done with out the massive number of decorative pillows on the bed, but I get it thats an appearance thing. In terms of the room it had a full bathroom with a tub, a gas fireplace (that I assume worked, but since it was summer I can't say one way or another). While it didn't bother me at all it is worth noting that there is no TV in the room, which for some might be desirable. The only thing I think that could be improved about the room, is in this day and age of technology, there needs to be some power outlets that are more accessible to guests. At minimum every one these days has at least a cell phone that needs to be charged overnight. I woke up in the morning and watched the sunrise from the front porch which was extremely peaceful and shortly there after Bryan let me know coffee was ready. He even offered to bring it out to me on the porch if I wanted to have my morning coffee on the porch. He also let me know Breakfast would be ready shortly. Bryan was awesome about the breakfast side of things, the B&B normally serves breakfast at 08:30 but I had a 9:00 class that was about a twenty minute drive away. Bryan was more than happy to make me breakfast early to ensure that I was able to get to class on time. Breakfast was amazing and the portion size was wonderful. I will definitely be returning here again in the future. Pros: Price, Food, Friendly Staff, Accommodating to needs, Comfortable!

We stayed in a cottage years ago but this time stayed in a corner room in the main inn. Wonderful setting, amazing breakfast, and an entirely great team supporting the guests. The new owners have maintained the place amazing well, from the new terrace extension to the restaurant (heated!), to the paths, Tesla wall batteries in case of emergencies, coffee service. Already, we see many things at Bald Mountain House we do not find here. First, Monica is an amazing hostess, incredible chef (most amazing breakfasts ever!), and cares for her guests so well! It is the most peaceful and tranquil place we have ever stayed. The king Tempur-pedic in the Blue Ridge Suite was like being in our own bed at home, except the only sounds we heard was the flowing steam and singing birds. The cool mountain are allowed us to keep the windows open our entire stay, even when we turned on the AC for a cool sleep at night. The place smelled so fresh and was very clean (perfect 100 sanitation rating). There were always drinks stocked in the fridge and coffee and cookies available in the dining room. The tap water was soft and tasted as good as any bottled water. We enjoyed the many comfy chairs on the huge covered porch as we watched golden finches, hummingbirds, and other beautiful birds feast at the many feeders while we looked at the vast mountain range above the flower planter boxes. We were able to do some hiking on the infamous Appalachian Trail, including breathtaking views atop Big Bald mountain. Monica provided a lot of helpful information when we asked, especially regarding dinner ideas. While the owners were on site and available 24/7, we appreciated that unlike other places we have been they did not immerse themselves into their guests space! We hope to return again in the future!

This suite had 1 bathroom, 1 bedroom with a king bed and sitting room, another bedroom with 2 twin beds. My mom and I slept on the king bed. The mattress was hard and uncomfortable but I did sleep good! This suite has lots of stairs to get to it so that was a challenge with luggage but we made it. The furnishings are old, in style with the house, but comfortable. There were fans in the rooms which was nice. We arrived late at night and got the last private parking spot, which is also a walk to the house but doable. Breakfast is served 8:30a-9:30s and we went down about 9a. There were no seats available, the hostess came and apologized and told us the breakfast menu for the day. Bacon was on it and I LOVE some bacon. Finally got seated, breakfast arrived, no bacon, they were out of bacon! Dissatisfaction! After breakfast talked with inn hostess and told her we didn't need our room cleaned but could use some clean towels and trash taken out. She said ok, she would do it and then hang a rope across the steps to let the housekeeper know we didn't need service. Then we left for the day. Got back late, clean towels, trash not emptied. Next day, left the rope down, left for the day, got back late, no clean towels, trash still not emptied. Oh, and we went down to breakfast by 8:30 to make sure we got seats and food! I'm There is a small fridge in the dining area with ice in baggies and you can store something small but that's it. They do have coffee/tea and small snacks t/o the day and night. This place is clean but not exceptionally clean, the outside grounds were nice but not exceptionally nice. Back to the breakfast, they make your breakfast and serve you, there are no options, you get what they are serving. The food was good. Would I stay here again? The bathroom did leave some things to be desired. There was not a good place to put your toiletries. We also had to climb into a very deep bathtub to get to the shower... If you are clumsy, like me, you may walk away with a couple of bruises. The house itself was very pretty, and was decorated in a manner appropriate for the property. I would've liked to seen some warm blanket to sit out on the patio with, board games, or puzzles to pass the time. There was only one sofa, and it was not in a cozy little nook where you would want to hang out. The food was fine. The menu is heavy on carbs and sweet breakfast treats. They were executed well enough. But there was not any particular breakfast that knocked my socks off. Again it was fine. The location was very convenient to downtown Asheville. It would be a two minute drive or a 10 minute walk to downtown Asheville. This bed-and-breakfast did not appear to be owned and operated by the hosts, rather an absentee corporation or business. I think that made the difference. Everything was fine, but it didn't have that touch of home that you expect when you stay at a bed and breakfast. For example, when we wanted to use the television, and needed some assistance, when we called the number that was left, the call was blocked. On a whim , we texted Fortunately, they responded right away. But ultimately, after 6 PM you are on your own in terms of staffing. Overall, I can recommend Beaufort House, but I think next time I will try something different.
