I suddenly lost my Great Dane Stella to a unknown end. I found her in the backyard and as you could imagine it broke my heart. Their team was gracious, kind and supportive on that terrible evening. I had never been to Grady before for my Vet care, but have always heard great things. When I made the initial call after finding her around the woman that answered was so supportive through my grief stricken inquiry for help. She patiently explained my options and was very supportive. I chose to bring my sweet girl because I couldn't bare to see her in that state any longer. When I arrived a young lady greeted me in a very calm, comforting matter. She registered Stella, explained my options, and I paid for her care. Then she instructed me where to go next, then I pulled around back. A second young lady assisted with Stella loading her on a gurney. The two young ladies should be commended for how they handled that situation. As I was in tears, they were comforting without saying a lot. They said just enough without saying too much. That meant the world to me and I wont ever forget that. They asked me if I was okay to drive as I fell apart. It's little things like that which mean a lot. They respected my final moments and I so appreciate them for that. I assure you that Grady has earned my loyalty in the future and gratitude getting me through a very difficult time. read more

One of the worst vets we have every experienced. DR. MIKE MANHIEM was extremely disrespectful toward me. He does not know how to talk to pet parents in the slightest. Thank god i was right there the whole time with my pet. I feared that he would hurt my dog due to the fact that i am black pet owner. Dr. Mike assumed that i couldn't understand what allergies are and a heart murmur. He assumed because of my age and skin color that i was some type of idiot. He spoke at me the entire visit. My dog will never see this vet again. I have taken my dog here before to see Dr. Emma byers. She was very professional and polite the entire time. She never once spoke out of line to me and was extremely patient with my dog. Dr. Mike needs diversity training or to just retire. His behavior was absolutely disgusting. read more

Grady Veterinary Hospital is great. We were very fortunate to find Grady during an emergency with our cat, who had re-blocked after being flushed with a catheter at a different pet ER. We spoke to Dr. Grady himself, and found him to be very attentive and professional. He absolutely listened more than he spoke, and when chatting with us, we felt completely assured by his advice. We knew we were in great hands and that's why we decided to go ahead and hospitalize our cat, leaving him in Grady's care. A 48+ hour hospitalization was affordable (under $1,000) considering. Although $900 bucks is by no means inexpensive, the alternative was $3k elsewhere. For 24/7 care and comfort, meds, anesthesia, enzyme/kidney function/electrolyte bloodwork, IVs and other fluids, our cat had the works. The staff was so lovely to repeatedly tell us that we could call and visit any time. For us, that was a great comfort. We called every day, at least twice a day, and never once felt like a bother. We were able to speak to Dr. Grady himself when we wanted to check in to see when we could bring our cat home. We were pleasantly surprised that the doctor himself was available to us! The hospital is AAHA accredited. This means they know their stuff, and they work hard to maintain that accreditation. When visiting Grady Veterinary Hospital, please remember to be patient and to treat the staff kindly. They work HARD, and I've personally seen how many animals they help in a day. Between emergencies and balancing regular patients, they are very busy. So sometimes there may be a wait. Be kind and communicate if you need to, but above all, be patient. I brought my cat in at 11pm last Saturday night because he was in extreme pain. Despite the wait, they triaged and made him comfortable before his exam and x rays. the techs were gentle and kind, and the vet was outstanding. Unfortunately, we had to have our baby euthanized, the pain was too much for him. This hospital made this the kindest, quietest, most peaceful experience I have ever attended. I took my two cats to Grady's for worm medicine on Aug 27, the bottles were mislabeled instructing me to give followup meds on Aug 24 (should be September 24). When I requested that the person labeling the medication be asked to be more careful with the dates the woman on the phone, Amanda, was very dismissive seeing the error as obvious and no big deal. read more

It still took me 2 hours to get to see a vet for my poor puppy who has a bladder infection and couldn't control his pee.. staff was nice but not exactly in any hurry to help. I'm was visiting here and had to unexpectedly take my service dog in for bladder stones. They were super friendly and called everyday after surgery to check up on Max. Would HIGHLY recommend Grady to anyone having a pet emergency. I'm a first time pet owner living on my own, so you can imagine my panic when in the middle of the night one Saturday my cat started gasping and struggling to breathe. I didn't even have time to stop when I walked in the door carrying my cat, someone immediately ushered me into a private room and swooped my cat off to a back area to be put on oxygen. People were constantly in and out of the room asking permission to give him certain treatments or just updating me on how he was doing. He ended up staying one night and they let me visit him before I left, they were even very understanding of my ugly crying when seeing him in the oxygen tank. I believe the quick thinking and reaction time of the staff at Grady Vet that night are the reason my kitty is happy and healthy today read more

I had to race my tiny small dog into them tonight, after she had been attacked by another big dog. I am so thankful we have a 24 hour animal hospital that we can go to in this city! They immediately swooped her from my arms and raced her back to ICU. They took us to a private room and were in there with us in minutes asking if they could start an IV and administer pain meds and fluids, that she was in shock but seems stable. Asked us if there was anything they could do or get for me. I was very upset, and they were very compassionate and warm. They kept me updated on her progress, and I have complete confidence they will do everything they can to return my baby to me ASAP! Thank you Grady!! read more

Dr Hall, overnight ER vet here, and her nurses are amazing. My dog required emergency surgery late at night at my vet, and I was able to transfer him here for 24hrs of ICU care and pain management. They took wonderful care of him as well as his worried owner. They provided clear estimates of cost, as well as updates by phone as needed. Their prices are reasonable compared to other local ER Vets. read more

I don't think I'd ever use this place as a personal/everyday vet but they really came through when I needed them. I had been living in Cincinnati less than a week when my kitty became super distraught and started peeing EVERYWHERE! It was a Saturday morning and I didn't know where to go or what kind of "emergency" bill I'd be looking at. While it was just a run of the mill urinary tract infection but the cat we had was new to our family, stressed out from the move and clearly in a lot of pain, so I freaked. I called Grady after a frantic web search and they got me in for 2 hours after I called. And when I arrived, I was told this would just count as a "routine" appt because it wasn't considered "after hours." We were in and out in under an hour and for less than $150 with medication. Everyone was nice and the issue was all cleared up. I don't think I'd take them back because I didn't care for the set-up of the building. I had been spoiled by our previous cats only vet who conducted our one kitty's visits on the floor because she was "scared" of the table. But here, they did everything "in the back." Even to check his weight, he was carried off to a back room which I found to be very odd and probably really stressful for him. So in that regard, it really lacked the one on one care. I really wanted to be able to see what they were doing and have it explained for me. But hey, they got my cat in and out and well...so no complaints there. read more

I was initially told that the wait was 2-3 hours to see my cat due to the amount of individuals who are here to see the vet. This visit quickly turned into me waiting 5 1/2 hours to finally be seen. I am not appreciative of this in any way and know that it may not be their fault due to lack of staffing but I wish there was at least some initiative to see all animals In a timely manner. read more

I would highly recommend Grady Vet! We took our dog in after his heart stopped in a panic. They quickly took us back and we're very informative. They let us see him before we left him overnight and told us to call anytime. We were the annoying pet parents who called every hour and they were so sweet and understanding. The next day, they let us stay with him in the treatment area for hours and were so attentive to our needs. Dr Shea and Dr Rumbell were amazing as were all the technicians! Our 8-year-old greyhound Derby shattered her right humerus on July 27 while running in our back yard. I called Grady at 5:30 pm and said "I think my dog has a broken leg. Should I bring her in?" I was told yes. But when we were seen at about 6 pm, we were told no vet would be available until 7 pm. Why were we told to bring the dog in if no vet was available? It's possible that we could have gone to another clinic and been seen sooner. We arrived at about 5:45 pm. My husband went in while I waited with the dog. He said, "My wife called ahead, we have a greyhound that we need help bringing in, we think she has a broken leg." A vet tech came out and insisted that she WALK in. I said, "Don't you have a cart?" He looked at me as if I were crazy and said, "Dogs are usually able to three-leg it." Could this have made her shattered humerus worse? It certainly couldn't have helped. We finally got in and were left standing in an examination room. No one suggested putting the dog on the table, so my husband knelt on the floor with her and held her up. As she stood on three legs, in pain, she grew weaker and weaker, and was panting harder and harder. I got her some water. The whites of her eyes, her tongue, and her gums were bright red. After about ten minutes, we decided to lower the mechanical table and put her on it ourselves, so that she could rest more comfortably. When the technician Robert took her temperature, it was dangerously high, about 107 F. Could being forced to walk across the parking lot and being forced to stand on a broken leg for at least ten minutes have contributed to her overheating? Robert spent most of the hour between 6 and 7 pm cooling Derby down, then got an x-ray. Dr. Hall then saw us and we have no complaints about the rest of our visit. The next day, when we came to get Derby to transfer her to our regular vet, we were relieved to see two techs carrying her out. When we mentioned that another tech had made her walk in on her broken leg the day before, they seemed incredulous. I sent Grady a letter with this information and gave them a month to respond before posting this review. I still have not had a response from them. read more

If I could put a zero, I would. I contacted Grady for an appointment and was told I needed to come to the parking lot to put in a queque to see a vet. I did that at noon. When I arrived at the parking lot, I called to let them know I had arrived. I was put on hold for 15 minutes and then told it would be 4.5 - 5 hours to see a vet. Ok, I went home, came back at 4.5 hours and was told it would be another 2.5-3 hours. I went home. About 1.5 hours later, the office called and said if I was in the parking lot, I could be seen. I told them I could be there in 10 minutes. She said, "Sorry, we can't wait and you will lose your place in line. If you come back, we can put you in queque again." This is an outrageous practice. When I asked the front desk if she could please be flexible, I was rudely shut down. Perhaps the vets are great but the front desk and office practices are horrific. Will NEVER recommend or try Grady again. read more

My dog was discharged with multiple antibiotics, two of which were the same thing and should not have been given. She was also given Tramadol, which my regular vet said should never be given to a dog with a seizure condition. She had multiple seizures which stopped after the drug was out of her system. After speaking with other pet owners and my vet, they recommend going to MedVet and avoiding Grady Veterinary. They apologized for the mistake, but it should have never happened. read more

We used to love this place but after tonight's experience, I don't think we can go back. The front desk staff was absolutely unprofessional and rude. We sat in our car to waiting to be called in for our appointment. We called to let them know we where there and after my wife and I both being put on hold for 10 minutes, my wife went in. She sat there for about 20 minutes to no avail. After waiting for 40 minutes we left. The receptionist then called us back and after having found out we gave up and left, she had the audacity to raise her voice with my wife. She was very unprofessional about the situation and didn't understand why we left. They ignore the phones and then say they will call you shortly and you won't here back for a while. All while sitting in your car. They need a new and much more professional staff. Anyone know of any other good vets out there that have a friendly, professional staff? read more

By far the worst experience I have ever had. Normally we see doctor Russle but today we had dr Grady which was awful. After taking his sweet old time and having to be paged multiple times stating he has a patient he finally made it to the room around 45 minutes later. After being frustrated about the he then tries to argue with me on how long I've given my dog his meds for and why he shows no improvement then walks away mid conversation. Long story short he is an over paid ass that shouldn't be dealing with customers. Sorry doctor Russle but this guy made it so we won't be back to see you any more. The slowest running vet hospital I have ever seen. Took my dog in for a walk in due to stomach issues- waited in the car roughly 45 minutes then got a call saying a room was available. My dog and I sat in the room for a total of 4 hours not being helped. I went to the front desk and the women working it are extremely rude. All they say is "the vets are doing their rounds". Then I recently needed to order a prescription diet food for my dog. I ordered it off of Chewy and they needed authorization from the vet to deliver it to me. Of course Grady never gave that authorization. Every time I have gone there I alway got a bad vibe and my dog is extremely friendly (loves the groomer and other public places) but HATES that vet hospital. He gets very bad anxiety and always barks. Makes me wonder what they have done to him there. I will never recommend them and never go back. If anyone has a vet emergency- take your dog to Med Vet not Grady. read more

I had a terrible experience at Grady Veterinary Hospital. I went there after my local veterinarian realized that Josie, my 11-year-old Golden Retriever, was bleeding internally and needed an emergency splenectomy. When we arrived, we were taken to a waiting room. We waited about 20 minutes for anyone to come in, even though we had called an hour ahead and told them we were on our way. (It took us an hour to drive there.) Finally Dr. Grady came in to see us. He told me the same thing that my local vet told me - Josie's spleen could be bleeding due to hemangiosarcoma, a very aggressive and fatal cancer, or a benign tumor that was harmless after removal. He said there was no way to know without doing the surgery. The quoted price was $2,000. I couldn't bear the thought of euthanizing my dog if she just had a benign tumor, so I agreed to have it done because she was otherwise healthy. Dr. Grady asked if I wanted the tumor tested and I said yes, absolutely. He also asked if I wanted her to be euthanized if they opened her up and saw cancer everywhere. I said no, I wanted to be called if that happened so I could say goodbye. I was told she would be in surgery as soon as possible. Very late that evening, I finally received a phone call from a different doctor. He said Josie was out of surgery and seemed to be doing well. I asked him if he could tell whether it was hemangiosarcoma or a benign tumor. He said there was no way to know without getting the test results from the lab. I was told the lab results would come in 3-5 days. After 5 days, I called. They told me the lab was taking longer and it would likely take them 10 days. 10 days came and went and I heard nothing. I called and they told me the doctor would call me back. The doctor then called later that evening and told me that they had not sent Josie's spleen to the lab at all, and in fact, they had just thrown it out after the surgery. He said he didn't realize I wanted it tested, which makes absolutely no sense since he told me the night of the surgery that the lab results could only give us definitive answers. So, I paid for a $2,500 surgery in order to find out what my dog's prognosis was and learned absolutely nothing. After telling me that there were no lab results, the doctor told me he thought it was "probably" hemangiosarcoma, despite telling me previously there was no way of knowing without tests. He also said there was a different test they could do, but it cost hundreds of dollars and of course they did not offer to do it for free even though it was their mistake. Sadly, Josie ended up having hemangiosarcoma and passed away three weeks later, but thanks to Grady Animal Hospital, I spent those three weeks having no idea if this was my last month with her or if she would live another few years. This was extremely stressful. One of the main points of the surgery (other than her immediate survival, of course) was to find out what the tumor was so I could give her the best care possible, depending on what the findings were. So, even though she survived the surgery, I consider it a failed operation because what was supposed to be done was not done. I never received any apology from Dr. Grady, even though he was the one who should have communicated to the other doctor to have it tested. I also tried calling his office several times but never received a call back. I wanted to ask for at least a partial refund (if not a full refund) but I could not get a hold of him. I am thankful that I had another month with my Josie, but I will never take another pet to this emergency hospital again because the staff clearly do not communicate well, they blatantly lied to me when I called about the lab results the first two times, and they are incompetent. I also thought it was ridiculous they did not even offer to do the other test for free after they made a mistake. They clearly do not care about animals and customer service as much as they care about making money. My pets are a core part of my family and so this was a very traumatizing experience. After I told my local vet what happened, she apologized for sending me there, so I hope they are not still sending people to Grady. I hope this review can save other people similar pain and heartache. read more

If I could give negative stars I would. The worst customer service I have ever seen. I took a sick kitten as part of a rescue to them. The kitten was diagnosed with pneumonia. Later that day I called back to ask for an RX for an oxygen tank for an oxygen tent to try to save this kitten. I was refused and told that it was because I was not a long term client. You are kidding right?!?! So basically this place only cares if they can bleed you for money over the long term. HORRIBLE. They clearly don't care about the health and well being of pets but only how much money you will spend with them. We loved our vet, but they were too far away and had limited hours. We went to Grady when our dog was sick during the weekend-while still with our inconveniently located vet. We were really afraid. Our dog, Rudy, was extremely lethargic, had vomiting, and bloody diarrhea. We were not sure about the experience we would have with a 24 hour vet service. We had used Grady years ago with our cats and had good experiences each time, but that was many years ago. We were lucky enough to get Dr. Swinney, my apologies if spelled incorrectly. He is extremely professional and explains everything to you as the pet owner. I am a nurse, but am a new dog owner. He took the time to listen and was confident in the care he provided. He prescribed meds and a temporary limited diet. The cost of the services was very much in line with what we would expect at our vet's office. After this experience we switched our vet to Dr. Swinney, though again we very much appreciated our former vet. We really had a positive experience with Dr. Swinney and felt in good hands. That was why we had driven so far to our former vet, we had not had the confidence in anyone else we encountered until now. We had follow up with Dr. Swinney today and am happy to say that our pup is on the road to recovery. I hope Dr. Swinney stays at the service, but in the past we also worked with young Dr. Grady who was also professional and explained everything to us, just as Dr. Swinney has...They are both knowledgeable and competent providers. The vet techs were also friendly and efficient. Great work. in addition, the office has 24 hour services 7 days a week. The staff have all been helpful, friendly, and professional both on the phone and at the desk. THAT MEANS SO MUCH TO PATIENTS/CUSTOMERS. All I can say is they have done great work! I would recommend this vet to everyone I know. This is our new vet, and we were willing to go a long distance for many years for our other vet because we trust them. We trust Grady. read more

While the vets here seem to be alright, the front desk staff doesn't appear to hold themselves to the same standard. You'll see that on this review site most of the negative reviews mention poor, rude customer service. That has been my experience, too. The first involved dealing with a front desk person who was so curt she was almost hostile. After asking how long a wait would be (to have my cat given a pill) she paged vet tech, who took my cat into a back room and promptly gave my cat two times the dose of a chemotherapy drug. Basically, she overdosed my cat. My cat was okay, but I asked to talk to a manager. Big mistake. Ever since then the staff at the front have been even more unpleasant to me (luckily I haven't had to take my cat there very often). I normally don't write reviews, but yesterday, I called asking if I could get a refill for a medicine first prescribed at Grady. My "regular vet" had called in a wrong prescription dosage and since it was Saturday, I thought I'd give Grady a try. A front desk staff called me after speaking to the vet who said I'd need to bring the cat in for an exam again before she could refill the medicine. I was explaining my situation and about to ask about the vet's availability that day when the staff person interrupted me and said, "The.Vet.Said.No." It was bizarre, inappropriate, and I'm done dealing with this group. Please take this advice: if you go here, keep your head down. Don't ask about a wait time, and whatever you do - don't complain. read more

Grady is not my normal vet clinic and I do not plan to switch, however, as for an emergency vet I would always take my animals here in a heartbeat. My family has had experience with emergency vets in the past and I received more compassionate and empathetic care here in my one visit than my family ever has at another emergency vet. I came the first week of December with my 8 month old Pug puppy who had an eye injury. I took her out of her cage and her eye was bloody and I did not now what caused it (and still do not know). Paris, my Pug, was not the worst case there by far, which meant we did wait for awhile which I understood completely. I didn't know how severe her eye was until Dr. Brownfield checked her out. Dr. Brownfield informed me that her eye was so severe that she would have to have it removed. This was a complete surprise and almost swept my off of my feet with the news. Dr. Brownfield was so understanding though, and let me have time to think and consider options. She even went out of her way to refer me to a eye specialist, price checked things, even wrote up 2 different treatment plans for me to consider. She gave Paris all the compassion that you would want for your pet. She let me have as much time as I needed and was empathetic and compassionate the entire time. I am a first time pet owner myself (my family has had dogs but Paris is my first dog on my own) and to have a vet support me and treat me so compassionately was refreshing. I ended up choosing to see a specialist that saved her eye and vision in that eye. Although Dr. Brownfield did not ultimately save her eye, she referred me to a trusted colleague that did save Paris' eye. She was compassionate and understanding to a first time pet owner and young adult, where many people would have blown me off and would not have given me as much time or respect as she did in that moment. I am so thankful for Grady and although I hope I don't have to come back here anytime soon, if I need anything I will come back to Grady in a second. Thank you to the staff upfront too that was helpful and kept me as calm as they could. Best vets in town! Thorough and caring, every vet I see at Grady (Dr. Quilles, Grady and Mohlman) gives our animals the best possible treatment. We have had 2 cats and 2 dogs that they have seen and they have guided us to make the best decisions regarding the health of our animals. From the very difficult allergies that my pittie has to making the difficult decision to euthanize my senior cat, the doctors at Grady have given us various treatment options so we can make informed decisions that are best for our animals. The front office women are wonderful as well! They are always so happy to see our pets and welcome us into the office. Every person at Grady loves our pets and treats them like their own. read more

They were wonderful to me during my sweet girl Loretta Lynn's stay. She was very sick and needed around the clock care and they didn't seem bothered by me calling so frequently to check on her. Unfortunately she was too ill to recover and we had to make the incredibly heartbreaking decision to put her to sleep they were patient and kind to us the whole time we were there. Dr. Brownfield and staff I cannot thank you enough for your kindness during the worst part of owning a pet. Loretta Lynn was very well cared for by you all and I appreciate receiving a card and her paw prints in the mail after her passing. My cat got sick early Sunday morning when my regular vet wouldn't open for several more hours. I took him here where I was helped into a room right away with my cat and the technician immediately checked him and knew what was wrong. The staff was very helpful in informing me with all the information I needed, my cats treatment plan, my payment options, etc. The technician was understanding and sympathetic as I sat there taking everything in with tears running down my face. She made the situation easier for me which I was very grateful as I left my cat in their capable hands. I had only been gone for an hour when the vet gave me a call with an update. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars versus 1 is because the front desk and one nurse were really nice and compassionate. As far as the doctors, the two I communicated with were the night shift and not very helpful or compassionate. My dog had just recently been diagnosed with liver issues and was throwing up water and not eating so I took her in on Tuesday evening. They said they thought it was liver failure and in order to find out for sure she would need an ultra sound but said that she wouldn't be able to receive one until Friday. They didn't treat the situation at all like an emergency and were ok with waiting that long even though she seemed to progressively get worse while there. I had to call back several times after every time I visited my pup because I never left with clear information. I was emotional and getting no answers because they were not proactively offering information about options or explaining test results. I checked her out of Grady Hospital on Thursday because they didn't have the resources (ultrasound) on site needed and I was told no one knew how to contact the third party ultrasound technician to schedule an appointment that they initially had told me was an option. After leaving Grady, I took her to Noah's Arch in Ft Wright, KY immediately and those people were amazing and extremely compassionate. They were able to give her an ultra sound right away and explained exactly what was going on. It turned out that she had cancer that spread to her whole body and there was nothing anyone could do and unfortunately she had to be put down. She passed on Thursday and Grady pet hospital didn't want to give her the procedures she needed until FRIDAY. I'm so disappointed how they treated her case and for not escalating the issues. I'm still in shock for the loss of my pup and will never return to this hospital. read more

DO NOT TRUST THIS VET. We took a kitten in who we found in the middle of the street, with possible injuries. We explained that we could not keep the kitten (allergies) but wanted to make sure she was taken care of and did NOT want to take her to the SPCA because they often euthanize. They assured us that they would take care of her. I called back hours later to check on her and was informed that they surrendered the kitty to SPCA. No one ever told us this was a possibility, and if they had, we NEVER would have left the kitty at Grady's. I will never bring an animal back to this vet or let friends or family being theirs. read more

Cincinnati OH location: I brought my cat who has a heart condition, so stress needs to be kept to a minimum. I brought her because she had been breathing rapidly for almost 24 hours, a sign of possible heart failure. They did take her right away to quickly assess her situation, which I appreciated. But that's where the good ends. I told them she does not like to be touched so be careful. They assured me they knew how to handle her. She has been to Grady two times before. This was the worst experience. I brought in a kitty who showed some rapid breathing distress but was otherwise acting OK. After 2 and a half hours of no communication from them and me having to check with them to see how long the wait would be (after 2 hours) I decided since it looked like she would be ok through the night I'd take her to her regular vet. They politely returned my kitty to me covered in poop and the carrier covered in poop... they didn't even bother to put the towel in to cover the carrier bottom. So here I am at home 3 hours later, no treatment for my cat, and have to cause her more stress to clean up the mess Grady made. They made no attempt to communicate with me so I could let them know they could sedate her if needed. Basically they threw my cat to the back of the line after they made a mess of her and wasted 3 hours of my time. Not the treatment a sick kitty needed and definitely not a treatment I needed. Something is wrong with this place at a deep level to be this callous. What I felt was a lack of care and empathy for my cat and myself and a lack of honesty in communication. read more
