Angels walk among us. We lost our beloved Bo on New Year's Eve. He would have been 15 in April. He took a really bad turn and since it was in the middle of the holiday season and our vet was closed, we were terrified that his suffering would be prolonged. If I could give 10 stars I would. My pup Dexter was recently diagnosed with bone cancer and I did not want to have to go back to vet to euthanize as I had heard there were at home services. The vet referred me to Angel's Paws. Everyone was extremely caring, they explained the process and, allowed me to schedule Dexter's appointment per my schedule. The technician who came to our house brought Dexter a cheeseburger. Welcomed Dexter's "sister-dog" Hanna to stay in the room so she could also say goodbye. They did not rush through the process at all and stepped away to give privacy for my family after Dexter crossed the rainbow bridge. We had to put my 16 year old baby down yesterday. Hardest day of my life, not something I wanted to do. I wish I had known about Angel's Paws 5 years ago when I had to put other baby down. The staff here are amazing and made my baby boy's transition over the rainbow bridge much easier. Helen who assisted with his passing was very explanatory through the process, compassionate and her voice was soothing. I would never go any where else. It was so hard and I ugly cried I am sure but I felt ok there. The hardest part was hearing he had finally passed. But he laid in my arms until the end and he rested in a bed once we left until it was time for cremation. I miss my baby so much it hurts and it's hard waking up in the morning and him not being there but I am so glad we found Angel's Paws instead of a veterinary hospital like I used before in a cold room and on a cold chair. We took Peanut into Angel's Paws in a comfortable room. I will definitely use them again with my other fur babies if I have to, maybe opt for an in home euthanasia next time which I wish I could of done for Peanut so he didn't have to leave the place he was most comfortable because he was scared not knowing what was coming. You can tell the love they share for animals and the deep understanding they have for you in your time of need just in their voices and the way they talk to you. Nikki went above and beyond the call of duty to help me with scheduling the passing of my best friend so my son could be there, despite their being no available reservations at that time. A technician from a different department came out of her way to give us an extra two hours to let my son say goodbye with the rest of us. We had our 10 year old lab euthanized yesterday. The process was as painless as it could possibly be, from getting her into their system to scheduling it when the time came. I have no idea how the employees cope with the day-to-day heartbreak. Their sincere compassion and empathy meant so much when I felt like part of my soul had crossed the Rainbow Bridge. The respect showed to my best friend's body was obvious; they knew how fragile my emotions were (and, honestly, still are) when we brought Emma in to be cremated. Stubbornly, I never thought I would lose her so no preparations were made. It was February and the ground was frozen, so burying her was not an option. And she hated the cold. Emma was diagnosed with aggressive lymphoma on a Thursday and euthanized the next Monday. Chemo was debated, but she didn't deserve to suffer twice. We kept her comfortable and knew when she stopped eating on Sunday that the time had arrived. Her local vet euthanized her; a decision I will always regret due to their office decorum. After extensive googling and more phone calls than I've made in the years since, we found Angels Paws. They guided us through the next steps. The small, but significant actions (the "kisses from heaven" and the dog halo pin at Christmas time, etc.) were so kind and so welcome. Honestly, where to even start? My 2 year old pug baby that I rescued from an awful puppy mill at 8 months old suddenly became ill out of nowhere. He was in an emergency hospital on IV fluids for 48 hours. His kidney levels were still off the charts. The specialists said they'd be happy to see him make it 4-6 weeks. I didn't know what I was going to do. I couldn't imagine losing my best friend, my first pet, my child. I'm 28 and he's been through a lot of my growth with me. And some very huge changes in my life. I talked to him every single day, all day. We had our rituals. He was special needs and I, myself, have a disability that effects my life on the daily, though I'm fortunate enough to still maintain work, etc. The point is, he saved me as much as I saved him. I was really taking it hard. 24/7 around the clock medication time, feeding, cleaning up the accidents, stressing, while trying to spend valuable time with him was so HARD. A friend of mine who works with several rescues reached out to me, noticing my anxiety around it all. She mentioned a place called Angels Paws that does hospice care for animals. I didn't even know that was a thing. She said they were very affordable too, especially for what they do. For what I paid them, I think I might have spent a hundred more than I would have to take him to a couple vet visits and the euthanasia there then cremation, etc. also cremation in most places are not private and the animals are separated but often times put in together. For that extra little bit, I purchase the pet parent at peace package (sorry if I said the name of it wrong but just ask them about the full package offer) I had 24/7 around the clock emergency care. I had prescriptions sent out to a pharmacy when the meds from the hospital ran out. The veterinarian, Dr. Kate, came out for the first visit and got on the floor with Sid and loved on him and taught me how to do the at home fluid injections. She was so kind and honest. I couldn't have asked for better. Then came the regression of the disease, quickly. I had to call Angels Paws emergency line several times due to his behaviors and if they didn't answer, they'd call me back within minutes. They showed genuine concern. I was fortunate enough to have the vet tech Carmen. Everyone at Angels Paws is kind but there are some people just sent your way for a reason, whatever that may be. But I believe she was sent for Sid and I. She had such a heart for him. One time I told her I actually felt like I was "losing it" and she said "you're not crazy" and hugged me. She told me about her little kitty, Mr. Kitty Biscuits, that's she had lost when he was young also and it felt nice to have that to relate to. To know she knew my pain. When the day came and I knew it was time. Carmen came out and she was patient and explained everything in depth in a compassionate way so that I got the process and what to expect and that she would let me know every step as we went. She gave me time with him beforehand until we were ready. After the procedure, she stepped outside my apartment to give privacy. I sent someone to get her when it was time to send him back with her. She wrapped him up in a warm blanket from my arms and placed him in a warm doggy bed. We walked him out together and put him in her car seat. "He's riding shot gun," she said. I was very in shock so I couldn't process much but she gave me a giant bear hug and said "it's going to be okay and it's okay to feel how you feel" in so many words (again, I wasn't quite there at that moment). I leaned into the car and kissed his little pug nose for the last time. Carmen later told me she talked to him the whole ride back to their office (which is more like a zen spa than an office) and told him how much his mommy loves him. When I went to pick him up, I had decided I wanted the chapel set up so when I arrived there was a relaxing dimly lit room with trickling water from a little zen water fall. His photo was up on an iPad. His name was on a little wooden box. They had fur clippings. I wrote his name on a little LEGO and attached it to the building wall of remembrance. I had the opportunity to write to him in a book that they have in the room. I was kneeled down in front of everything and began to cry and Carmen got down with me and just let me cry. Some other staff approached me after to meet me and give their condolences because at some point or another we had spoken on the phone about Sid. I just couldn't thank them enough for their love and compassion. If these people weren't here, I don't know how I would've made it. It's insufferable as is to lose my baby but it would have been so much harder without them. Truly from the bottom of my heart I would recommend these wonderful people to anyone who knows they're going to be keeping their fur babies comfortable before their transition to the rainbow bridge.
