I've been bringing my pets here for a few years and it's always been a great experience. Dr. Larson is super understanding and doesn't make you feel bad if you haven't always been on top of your pets yearly visits. We've been patients for way over 25 years. One of the vets saved our dogs life. This vet is out of town. Another of our dogs swallowed a medication this morning that could have killed the dog. We, of course, called our vet 1st thing. The office gave us instructions and told us to call "poison control", if it didn't work. It didn't. I googled poison control. There are many hits. I got involved in a scam. I then called our vet again, of course, and they told me they couldn't see our dog this morning. This is after over 25 years, always numerous pets at 1 time. I have always recommended Beechmont Pet Hospital. I've said numerous times, "Our vet wouldn't do that!" Well I found out differently. How can this happen? We had a time limit. We took her to an emergency vet. If it wasn't for the one vet, I'd find another vet! read more

I can't say enough about Beechmont Pet Hospital. We started with a second opinion and they diagnosed our blue heeler with cushings disease, which our previous vet "suspected" with her symptoms for two years, but never ran the proper test to confirm. I wish I went sooner for the second opinion as she was far too gone by the time we went. Now we have a golden doodle and unfortunately are frequently visiting the vet. Our pup gets into everything, and is always visiting the doctor. Anytime we call, we are greeted with friendly voices and they always get us in and help us with our frequent asked questions. We have seen several of the doctors there and they are all and have been friendly, thorough. I always leave knowing my pup is in good hands. Never in my life (I have had several pets) has a veterinarian/pet hospital given my pets the attention concern and empathy that Beechmont Pet Hospital gives to them. They saved our rescue puppy's life and I will forever be grateful. We rescued a 6 month old mix and within the first week he suffered from a grand mal seizure that went on for 10 minutes as we loaded him into the car and rushed him here. They are our primary vet and were so wonderful during the whole stressful episode. They got it under control and very compassionately explained problems that might arise and prescribed medication. I'm so happy they saved him and had emergency hours for stabilizing, observing him and running tests. He has not had a problem since and he is now turning 3 years old. They are great for normal check ups, but I'm so glad they are great in an emergency too! read more

We had a very negative experience recently. Our dog had a growth moved from his paw and had stitches. Nine days post-op his paw suddenly swelled and was red. We called at noon on a Friday and asked to please have him seen. They refused to see him in person, even though we live three minutes away and could have had him there at any time for a check that would have taken five minutes at most. They asked that we send a picture. We begged to have him seen in person. They asked Dr. Seifert, the vet on duty, and she still refused even though we had been taking our dogs there for over 20 years. We were very fortunate to be able to get an appointment at PetVet 365 in the Beechmont Mall, a vastly better and more friendly place. They treated the post-op infection promptly and professionally. Refusing to see their own post-op infection was very bad medicine! We won't be back to Beechmont Pet Hospital. read more

Totally distraught. I have been taking all of my animals here for many many years. I'm not sure what happened, but it has been very noticeable that within the last year things have changed greatly. My doodle went in for a teeth cleaning service this past Wednesday and it is now Saturday and he is still not 100%. I expected him to be groggy after receiving anesthesia for a simple teeth cleaning, but the state that he has been in, has been very upsetting to witness and has me completely feeling guilty for taking him there for care. As asked, we did a very early-morning drop off and according to the vet tech who didn't even know why we were there when we were taken back to a room. After leaving and coming back with different paperwork, she said that the surgery schedule was back to back for the day and they didn't know when they would get to him. I should have taken him home right then and there but like always, trusted them. However, only to find out later that apparently they gave him tranquilizers and kept him in a crate until mid afternoon until they were ready to do the teeth cleaning, then proceeded to call me and tell me to pick him up at 4:30pm earliest. Once again, I expected him to be out of sorts, but it only progressively got worse. They said this is normal and he might be like this for 24 hours. He couldn't even walk right, and would not go up and down steps. Keep in mind he is only four years old and usually a very active pup. He would try to walk a couple of feet and then lay down, actually falling down several times. Prior to arriving home, I was able to carry him in from the car, even with him at 60 pounds, and place him gently on our couch- he laid there basically unresponsive for the next 24 hours, refusing water and food. He had white paste, which I'm guessing is toothpaste, caked all over his mouth and beard. His mouth was extremely dry, and he couldn't keep his eyes open. When calling the Vet for a third time, they said, given the amount of drugs he had received this would be somewhat expected, but to keep an eye on him. So we pushed through the first 24 hours... then 48 hrs... after the first 24, we were able to get some water and food and him, but only a little at a time. This was very concerning also, since he had not had food or water since the day before surgery. My poor dog and kids are traumatized from all of this, and I can't believe the lack of compassion that was shown, making me pick him up right after surgery and additionally, have very short, unsympathetic answers when calling out of total concern. I have never left a bad review for any small business, or in general, but this has had our entire family so upset that I felt compelled to possibly warn others. I believe he was over drugged after talking to a different veterinarian and not able to handle the amount of drugs that were put into his system. Plus, we even had blood work done the week before to make sure that he would handle the anesthesia well but I think in combination, everything was overdosed. Luckily, he is now drinking water and eating better but it's been several days and our dog just does not seem the same. It's Saturday and he doesn't come when we call him and just stares. We want our perky baby boy back and are praying so hard that this is just an unfortunate phase. On top of all of this, It feels like an assembly line there, often with long waits and quick ins and outs for appointments. We will no longer be going to Beechmont pet Hospital, which is very disappointing after being a customer there for many many years. We are only hoping that our dog gets back to normal with each day. If they were too busy to take the proper care of my dog, I wish they would have told me to come back another day. We understand that some of the surgeries for other animals may have been life-threatening, and that they needed to prioritize. I had no idea, absolutely no idea, that this would all happen like it did. Beyond upset and heartbroken that our poor baby has been put through this, us too. Just a nightmare. read more

Been having some issues with my current vet and noticed that Beechmont Pet Hospital always gets a ton of love from our community. When my daughter and then my husband and I got new kittens, we decided to register them with Beechmont Pet Hospital for their follow-up care. We've been very impressed. My daughter's kitten had a number of health issues and they treated her compassionately and well, informing us about what they were doIng every step of the way and why, providing clear estimates and recommendations. She's made a full recovery and is a very happy, healthy girl these days. Luckily our new kitten has been healthy and over two visits for vaccines, we have seen how the techs and the vets treat her with genuine affection. We will be transitioning our other pets here as they need their shots, etc. Bonus -- Beechmont Pet Hospital uses its social media following to help lost pets get home. read more

Katie Larson and Lori Whitacre for their always above and beyond service. My entire family has been coming here since it first opened and we've never been put off. Dr. Larson and Dr. Lori are the most honest yet compassionate vets you will meet. I bet my fur babies on it. I lived in Lexington for almost 7 years , but when something serious was going on , I always made the trip home to have my animals seen. Well worth the drive. This veterinary practice is such a letdown. Not only are they hyper-expensive, the front desk can be EXTREMELY rude. When people don't have any compassion or empathy, they definitely should NOT be in a animal environment. They should find something else they're suited to. Never known a practice that has the client go through a recording and then have to pick a number to speak to someone, only having to wait again. This practice is so old and absolutely so 90's mentality. When you have 3 or 2 receptionists sitting at the counter & no one is on the phone, what is going on??? Why are we forced into this cycle of recordings, when we should be able to contact the receptionists directly from the start? Plus whatever number you push, 1, 2, 3 it all goes to the same people at the front desk. You are not getting specialized info from a certain dept. You are ending up with the same receptionists that will 9x out of 10, will put you on hold, yet again. The prices on nail trims & anal glands are atrocious. . I have been told from 9 people, I will say that again, that will never return to Beechmont Pet because of their practices. And the lack of sympathy with many of the receptionists. read more

I took my cat in for a hygiene shave, and the technician shaved her entire body. When I called to express my dismay, the technician lied and said they asked me if I wanted her a full body shave and I had said yes. You can't trust them. read more

Dr. Larson is AMAZING! Go see her, she is very thorough. This doctor takes her time and really cares. I've seen a few vets there and they're.... Okay... One misdiagnosed my cat ( ear mites).... He had gotten it from our kitten that we adopted. Dr. Larson was quick to treat all my cats and made sure their ears were clean. I work in health care and I know how important bed side manner affects a person or cat...LOL! She's great and she will be the one to get to the root of a problem. read more

We have been taking our two dogs here for a number of years and have been very happy with all the staff at Beechmont Pet Hospital (BHP). Contrary to the name it is not on Beechmont road but off of Salem not too far from Beechmont. Recently our little dog had a fall that caused her some issues and one of the vets came out to take her in for a checkup. Luckily our little one was not in too bad of shape and just needed some medicine and a bland diet until she heals. They even gave us an easy to make recipe for our dogs bland diet which is very helpful. With the COVID situation their process is a little different and BHP is handling it very well to make sure the humans as well as the pets stay healthy. Would highly recommend BHP! read more

What a great emergency vet practice! The only choice a pet owner had was Medvet. They are great but totally outrageous in fees. They also requested a high deposit to begin treatment. A deposit of at least 85%! Now you have a wonderful practice that will take the best care of your dog or cat and charge very reasonable fees. A big F U to this place. They broke my sisters Heart. Our sweet madre was diagnosed with a torn acl in September. The vet assured her she would be ok and it would fine to save and prepare for the cost of the surgery. A couple months go by we're ready and set for her surgery January 4th. Unfortunately December 26th her leg where we assumed the torn acl was became very swollen. Madre became weak and not herself she didn't want to eat or drink. She started to breath very heavy on December 31st we rushed madre to a 24/7 emergency vet. The vet there informed us she had bone cancer and it was very bad. He told us she has had it for probably a year. How did bph not see this ?! We were too late the cancer had spread so fast to her lungs and she was in so much pain. My sister was left with the most hurtful news any pet owner could find out. Watching her and madre in there last moments will never be anything I'll forget. Beechmont pet hospital should be ashamed of themselves. Beechmont pet hospital said they ran blood test and madre was good to go on surgery... they clearly didn't do any test and just scammed my sister for money. If they would have done proper care madre could still be with us today. She was only 10. She will be so missed. Please if you love your animal go anywhere else. Nobody deserves the pain my sister is going through. read more

It was a great hospital ~ I went there 23 years while it was owned by Stewart Smith DVM but now it is a corporation! A bad corporation that gave my animal (a living creature) the worse veterinary care possible. No antibiotics or pain meds after surgery. I am still dealing with an infection under the incision and drainage. Like an HMO you cannot ask for just one doctor to see your pet, you just get who ever is on duty. I cannot post a review unless I post a star ~ I give one star just because I had to. read more

First off we have been going to Beechmont Pet Hospital w/ our animals for decades and HIGHLY recommend them to everyone. Our 9 1/2 year old American Akita has separation anxiety problems. Frankly we were a bit hesitant about a visit during the Covid-19 protocols. (You can fill out the information form on-line in advance. Upon arrival they come to your vehicle, get your pet and take it in for the appointment.) It couldn't have gone smoother! We explained to the young lady getting him that we had to take him from the SUV due to his protective nature. She agreed and then led him in w/ no problems. Visit went off w/o a hitch.. the Doctor called us for current info, background, and suggestions for wellness care, etc... I have to admit we were more nervous about the visit than our dog appeared to be. ;-) 5 STARS!! read more

I'm néw to the area and haven't established my pets with a local vet. I also recently added a new English Bulldog puppy to my family. So one evening Daisy started to vomit uncontrollably which then turned into constant dry heaving so after 10 minutes I started googling "emergency vets" and came across Beechmont Pet Hospital. It was 7pm so I knew everything was closed but luckily BPH offers an emergency urgent care from 8-10pm, which help alleviate the worry of an absurd office fee. She was immediately checked in, X-ray and diagnosed in less than 30 minutes. They are super conscious of covid and have you wait in the car while your pet is seen. Luckily my dog didn't need surgery but the fact that they didn't just do the surgery for the $$$ was very impressive. The prices are very reasonable and the entire staff is friendly and professional. The entire situation was made a lot less stressful than it could have been and because of the fantastic experience, I' will permanently make BPH my Bulldogs vet. read more

The staff and doctors here were the most kind and compassionate people with my family and kids. Every fluffy dog person I stopped around here told me they went here to have their dog groomed. I decided to give it a try. I have a hard time finding someone who is patient with and kind to Yetta. The groomer said she wasn't any problem, but she let her sit on the floor and look out the window. And she took care not to put too much stress on Yetta's old legs. She didn't put a noose around her neck to make her stand up or choke, but used a harness to hold her in place. I'm very happy. The groomer even called me after getting Yetta mostly done to say that she hadn't been trouble and not to worry. Well, that's nice because Yetta can be a pain in the ass and I do worry. When Harvey got out of his cage, he ran to the groomer before he ran to me, so I guess it was a stress free groom for both of them! Plus, Harvey and Yetta both look spiffy. I'll definitely go back. read more

Cindy, the owner and groomer, is an absolute professional. She has been grooming for 20+ years, knows exactly what she's doing, and does it well. I have toy poodles and a maltipoo, and she does everything for them the professional "show groomers" do: Ear plucking, ear cleaning, dremmels the nails smooth, scissor blends the coat beautifully, scissor trims and blends the tails, and blends the legs and feet beautifully. She is a rare gem in that she is also incredibly sweet and friendly as well as being an excellent groomer. I have been to several other groomers in the Mt Lookout/ Anderson area, and she is by far the most experienced and talented. She is gentle with the dogs, and they come home from her with beautiful, shiny, blended coats. I cannot stress enough the importance of a groomer who knows how to blend well. They're hard to find. Most just either use a clipper and call it a day, or just scissor blend haphazardly. Also, her prices are very competitive for the area. This is hugely important to me as I have 3 babies that need to be consistently groomed every 6-8 weeks and it can get expensive. We will be using Cindy from now on, and I hope to have a long happy relationship with her as my family's groomer! read more
