Visited for a class while on vacation and will definitely be back. Friendly, no ego environment and the level of coaching and students' skill are phenomenal. Got some great rolls in here, and the owner and his wife were kind enough to give us a bunch of recommendations for seeing the island. 10/10 would recommend!

Great gym! I'm in town for vacation and everybody was hella chill. Great technique and great rolls! I definitely recommend this gym if you are ever in the area.

Lots of people come here to train

They are flexible with their lessons. I told them that I only can come in one day a week and they said I can come here whenever they offer the lessons which is awesome. It's not a set schedule which is good for my rotating shift at work. They have discounts for multiple kids. 25% for the second kid and 50% for the 3rd kid. Lessons are around $140 Gi: you can buy it from them which range about $90-$120 depending on the size. ... or you can buy your own special one. You need to remove your shoes before entering the room. No AC... just fans. So bring cold water... if not they sell water for $1.

Just started training and attending the intro to jujitsu classes. I've only been in three classes so far with technics but I've already learned so much within that small amount of time. Sebastian is an awesome teacher, Down to earth guy that really cares for the students. Whenever I have a question or have trouble with understanding certain drills/moves. he gladly guides me in the right direction and teaches me first hand on how to improve. All while being patient and understanding especially if I don't get something right the first time. Solid instructor. Matt was also really helpful and welcoming. provided me with all my questions and concerns in a timely manner over the phone and in person. He kindly let me sit in on the advanced classes to check it out and made me feel excited about jujitsu. The people in the technics community are down to earth and make me feel right at home. Great school. 100% would recommend coming here if you're interested in jujitsu.

I'm on holiday for a week and wanted to train a bit during my time here. I came to the No Gi advanced sparring session Monday and had a blast. Everyone was friendly, a good training partner, and very skilled. Definitely would come here again when I come back to Honolulu. Matt was also super chill and welcoming. If you're thinking of training here you should.

    Proud of his new stripe.

Just wanted to give a little shoutout for the kids classes at Technics! My 4 year old son has been coming here for about a year now. He is in the Ju-Jitsu Games class and he loves it. The kids have lots of fun while learning moves and making new friends. I love that this place is super legit in case my boys end up truly loving the sport. But for now, I think it's great that they are in touch with the FUN factor as they teach the kids...Everyone there is great and it's awesome how they even organize awesome family events (like Trunk or Treat on Halloween!). This place is pretty special!

While visiting from Arizona I was looking for somewhere to train, and everyone here was very welcoming. Learned some great techniques and got some great rolls in as well. I highly recommend checking out this academy if you are in the area. Thanks again Rylan and Matt!

This was my first ever barre class I've taken, and wow - what a workout. It is a total body workout which includes brief stretching before transitioning to the next muscle group. I love how Sweat+Soul barre really targets the smaller muscles to help me feel strong and toned. I can attest that the workouts WILL stay challenging, even after working out here several times per week for years. Instead of getting "easier" with time, your form will slowly improve (which I think also helps to improve your posture!). If it's starting to feel easy, you're not properly engaging your muscles :) The teachers and the owner are all so friendly and know how to kick your ass in the best way. I also love how CLEAN it feels in the studio. Pretty much all other fitness studios I've tried out feel noticeably grosser compared to here. (I can understand that it's also probably due to the nature of the workout for other studios though.) The studio recently moved to Ward Village Center (Genki sushi, Kids City, etc.), on the side of the structure where Roger Dunn Golf is located. This new location doesn't have a water refill station yet, so be sure to fill up your flask before heading here.

I joined about two years ago for kickboxing (PJ, Chris, and Justin are incredible), but really appreciated that the membership allows you to divide up your classes however you like. I ended up taking up jiu jitsu and recently started kali escrima with Ian - my only regret is that I didn't start sooner. Marital arts is such a humbling experience, and walking into a new gym can be so intimidating. O2 is perfect for every experience level from the individual who has only seen action movies to the high level grappler and those who spar regularly. As a whole, they call it the O2 fam and it truly feels like it! The gym is actually owned by Mike and Chris, two brothers, who truly give it a family feel. They, and all the coaches, are amazing at what they do and lead their classes with expertise and a lot of humor. And as another reviewer mentioned, this is definitely somewhere where you have to check your ego at the door because it's a fam and we have to take care of each other. O2 is on the second floor above Goodwill along Kamehameha. There's plenty of parking and the lot entrance is on Hekaha. During the pandemic they kept the gym open and prioritized membership safety with online classes then grappling with dummies and working in pods. They offer times throughout the day and on weekends. The schedule is a little modified because of COVID but definitely check them out!

People don't go full force to knock you out so don't be scared. All I can say is don't quit and stick in there if you want to learn; your body just needs time to adjust. Everyone is cool and goes to local mma events together, just like one big family. Most martial arts places don't give out prices on their websites, but I can assure you HMC has some really good ones. As for the cost, Leandro's BJJ is $70 I think and around $95 for monthly classes at HMC. If you are a student it's $80 which is what I pay monthly. There is a $50 initiation fee (every mma place has this). Drop in fee is $20 I think. It's a good deal compared to other places if you ask me; training on the mainland ranges from $100-$210 monthly. You can pay by cash, check, or monthly bank deposit. No BS contracts. The no gi BJJ comes with the price so you can learn grappling in addition to kickboxing if you want to do mma. I know some people who've just done this and have been successful in the ring. I prefer more instruction so I take gi jiujitsu. The schedule on the website hasn't been updated so check my picture for an updated version. HMC also has a branch in Kaimuki operated by Chris on Sunday only which you can pay a drop in fee if you're signed up with HMC Kalihi. They have grappling and kickboxing classes. There is also a Branch in Wahiawa operated by Haru that meets MWF at noon and evening and has Leandro Nyza BJJ on Tues/Thurs. They teach boxing, kickboxing/muaythai, and mma classes. Haru is also a native Japanese speaker and frequently has students from Japan coming down to learn from him. People are still signing up even though the new UFC BJ Penn Gym opened! The UFC Gym might offer all the mma classes you will need, but I still come here because the boxing/kickboxing instruction is more advanced for my level and the quality of training partners and instructors are much better, taking my game to the next level.

For a long time, I wanted to get him involved in jiu-jitsu, but I kept finding reasons to put it off. Eventually, I decided it was time to stop making excuses and find a place where we could start training. We tried a different academy first, but from the moment we walked through the doors, my son and I felt like outsiders. It just wasn't the right fit for us. My mother recommended Grappling Unlimited since she knows Enson, and I'm grateful she did. From the very beginning, Rei was incredibly welcoming and helpful. She answered all of our questions, made the process easy, and helped my son and me get started. Walking into a new gym can be intimidating, especially when you don't know anyone, but we immediately felt comfortable and welcomed. What started as something I wanted for my son ended up becoming a journey for our entire family. Not only did my son and I begin training, but even my mom eventually started her own jiu-jitsu journey in September 2025. Being able to share this experience with three generations of our family has been something really special. Since I started training, I've come to appreciate what makes Grappling Unlimited different. The instruction is outstanding, the coaches are knowledgeable, and the training partners are always willing to help. The gym has a culture where people work hard, support each other, and genuinely want to see everyone improve. Like most white belts, I've spent plenty of time learning the hard way, but every coach and training partner has played a role in helping me grow. I've gained confidence, improved my fitness, challenged myself in competition, and learned lessons that carry over into everyday life. Recently, I competed at NAGA. Stepping onto the competition mats was something I never thought I'd do when I first started training, and I know I wouldn't have had the confidence to do it without the coaching, support, and encouragement I've received at Grappling Unlimited. Most importantly, Grappling Unlimited gave my family a place where we felt welcomed from day one. Looking back, walking through those doors was one of the best decisions I've made. I'm proud to be part of this gym and truly grateful for everyone who has helped my family along the way. If you're considering trying jiu-jitsu--whether for yourself, your kids, fitness, self-defense, competition, or personal growth--I highly recommend giving Grappling Unlimited a try.
