She not only loves the classes, her skills improve with every thoughtfully-planned lesson and we feel that she is becoming both stronger and more confident over time. Steve Rodness obviously has an extensive knowledge of martial arts and is skilled at connecting with children, welcoming each student warmly while also being firm enough to control a large class. Our younger daughter will join his classes soon as well. Specific class details can be found in other reviews, so I wanted to mention that my husband and I put a lot of thought into selecting a dojo/dojang here in Davis. While we both have experience in different Japanese martial art styles, we were specifically looking for martial arts taught with a connection to culture and character development along with a friendly and supportive community. In addition to physical techniques, Steve Rodness at RMAC emphasizes guiding principles that are essential not only for martial arts as self-defense and a physical art form, but for living life as a strong and dedicated human being. We're lucky to have found such a positive place for our family.

Mr. Rodness has a teaching style that really connects with kids. He manages to balance discipline and encouragement in a way that keeps students motivated. What we appreciate most is that it is not just a martial arts school. The classes consistently reinforced focus, perseverance, accountability, and respect. Those lessons have carried over into school and every day life for our son. If you're looking for a place that develops confidence and character in addition to excellent martial arts skills, this is a fantastic environment. We're grateful to be part of the program and highly recommend it.

(The other person's membership charge was even more than my own.) Once I noticed, I contacted Fabio and let him know. He acted like he would do something about it but did not. So I waited then asked him again. If I remember correctly, he still did not refund my money. After asking repeatedly, I eventually got some of the money back...but it was NOT the full amount and it was only for ONE month. He never paid me back for the rest. I lost over $100. I wanted to be nice and give Fabio time, but in doing so, the window passed for me to file a complaint with my bank. I have never heard from Fabio since. Additionally, this gym needs to pay more attention to who is in their gym during sparring. This gym has an unsafe environment. I was a beginner white belt and I was once paired with a Napoleon complex hothead who was also named Austin (coincidence), and he was a higher belt than me. During sparring he quickly slammed me on my head. This is extremely dangerous and shows a complete lack of sense. He had no respect and showed no remorse. It was 100% intentional. One black belt here would not wash his gi and smelled like urine and feces (this is a known tactic for actual competitions, but I was amazed that someone would do this for simple practice against white belts). This is not a good gym. There is a lack of supervision and safety, and I had money taken that has still never been returned.

Excellent place to train. The absolute best…read more This school has decades of experience teaching effective, proven self defense for use on the street. From day one, the emphasis is on teaching "Real" movements using a "hands on" approach. Lots of hitting pads and doing things on the teacher to make sure you understand how it works. For the sport fighting (MMA) enthusiast, they teach "Shootfighting", a combination of Muay Thai Kickboxing, Jujitsu, Russian Sambo, and Catch wrestling. Not just 'Stand Up' and 'Ground' in separate classes, the "Shootfighting" integrates the two creating a much more well rounded fighter. The instructors are professional, courteous, and knowledgeable. THERE ARE NO "KID" TEACHERS. All of the instructors are adults, and the adults and kids are taught separately in the group classes. If you are looking to train as a family or for training for you son/daughter, you will not find a better place. Instead of focusing on 'point fighting' and playing a 'game'. Kids build up their self esteem and confidence while learning real physical skills that will need if they are attacked. There is nothing worse than if a kid thinks he can defend his or herself only to get beat up (OR WORSE), because what they learned doesn't really work. I do know that there are quite a few CHP officers, Police, SWAT, as well as Correctional Officers from CMF training here as well as some of the other locations (and they are some of the coolest people to train with) If it is good enough for them an their families, it is good enough for mine.

I simply walked off the field and shrugged my shoulders. No bad attitude, no rude remark, just a shrug and I moved on. I choose to have fun on the sports field regardless of how terrible I'm doing. I know I will get better if I keep going. I'd like to credit Kuk Sool Won with this as well as Justin Bunn. Vitality charges four times (quadruple) what our old dojo charges AND if you want to quit, you can just inform them and be done. They force you to pay for an entire additional month - really awful anti-customer policy. Additionally, the instruction was supervised closely enough and our daughter was injured because another student was overly aggressive. Finally, the place smells terrible, like feet wrapped in dirty diapers. We've moved on to a new dojo and are much happier - and back to paying a quarter of what Vitality charges.
