This made me commit. We've also taken this class with multiple instructors and every one of them are so kind and amazing. They are so great with kids and I love them all so much! My girl enjoys this class and it's nice parents can sit in the class to watch. Towards the end, they have you interact with your child in helping them develop their skills which is a nice way to bond. Vitality charges four times (quadruple) what our old dojo charges AND if you want to quit, you can just inform them and be done. They force you to pay for an entire additional month - really awful anti-customer policy. Additionally, the instruction was supervised closely enough and our daughter was injured because another student was overly aggressive. Finally, the place smells terrible, like feet wrapped in dirty diapers. We've moved on to a new dojo and are much happier - and back to paying a quarter of what Vitality charges.

He teaches my "cane-fu" class, which is more like practical self-defense for older people (who might happen to have a cane handy.) He and his son and another sensei teach my daughter's kenpo class, where they do learn kata and forms, but they always make sure you know what the moves are a response to. In fact, that's Stan's first question almost every time: "why are you doing this?" Hard to believe this quality of martial arts instruction exists in small-town Galt.

I really appreciated how different it was compared to the usual karate place, where you can see yourself doing forms in the mirrored walls, he emphasized body control- knowing where your foot is(without looking) so that you don't screw up the technique for example. I don't know how his classes are currently, but I think he provided great real world tactical self defense back then and have no doubts that he's still a great teacher. I like that they're attentive to the kids, teach them to be disciplined, and teach them other important values.
