It's been over a year now and I still remember that bowl of delicious fried Okra I had the first…read moretime I ate here. It was very significant to me because as I was growing up I learned to eat Okra from my grandmother's home cooking. And I can't think of no better way to describe this place as this. After being awarded the Triad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, I decided that it would be appropriate this year to go back to this restaurant and write a follow-up review, since my initial review was one of my reviews that contributed to me obtaining this highly esteemed Award. Pok-E-Joe's has become one of the most loved BBQ restaurants in Vinton, Roanoke, and nearby cities and towns. And key to its success is their quality meats and slow smoking cooking process that lasts for hours, turning their meats into award-wining Southern culinary masterpieces. Today, when I arrived a friendly young lady greeted me at the Host's station and after giving me a warm welcome, and inquiring as to where I wanted to be seated, took me to a comfortable booth next to the window. There I enjoyed looking over the menu with all the unique and delicious Southern BBQ foods such as the Pulled Pork, the USDA Prime Brisket, the Smoked Sliced Turkey, and others. Not long afterwards, my very friendly server, Jessica, came by with a big smile to greet me and take my order. I ordered an Iced Lemonade to drink. And to eat I ordered the Build Your Tray. I first asked for the Brisket Tips, which I had heard so much of, but they didn't have any today. So I picked my meats for the tray 1/4 lb of Pulled Pork and 1/4 lb of USDA Prime Brisket. For my sides I ordered Fried Okra, a Side Salad with Blue Cheese dressing, and Straight Cut Fries. The tray also included 3 Hushpuppies. I also wanted to include in this review their Pok-E-Cuban Sandwich, so I also ordered this with the idea of taking home the leftovers to eat tomorrow. My server Jessica did an excellent job taking my order, seeing that it was delivered, and checking on me at the right times. Everything was to good to the point of being exquisite. The flavor of the meats were out of this world, and they were so tender and juicy. The Salad was made with fresh ingredients and tasted refreshing with the Blue Cheese dressing. The Fried Okra and Hushpuppies were magnificent. And the Fries were the perfect cut and fried to perfection. As to the Pok-E-Cuban Sandwich, it surpassed all the others that I have had, with the slow smoked Ham and Pulled Pork, pickles, Swiss Cheese, and their house-made Spicy Mustard. All this, and at a very reasonable price. The ambiance of the restaurant was clean, warm, and relaxed. And contributed to the amazing diving experience. For dessert I had a Chocolate Chip Cookie Bowl Sundae. It was the dessert of the day and tasted amazing. Even the quality of the Vanilla Ice-cream was tops and creamy. This restaurant is very detail oriented, with fine food, cooked the right way, and provided with excellent customer service. And this makes for an extraordinary dining experience.

After watching many, short but to the point, Bojangles TV commercials, I decided it was time for me…read moreto go visit one of their restaurants and try them out. After all, their official slogan is "It's Bo Time" Although the Bojangles southern chicken franchise began serving food in 1977 in North Carolina, this Bojangles is located on Hardy Road in Vinton, Virginia and opened in 2012. One of the first things I noticed when I arrived at this restaurant in Vinton was the simple but fun architectural design of their building and the use of the color yellow on the awnings of the building and on their outside parking lot sign with their logo. Yellow is the most attractive of all colors, and so each time one drives by the restaurant, your eyes can't help it but to gravitate to the restaurant and read the red fonts with their name Bojangles. Also interesting to mention is that the name of Vinton is found written on the logo itself, detail that brings out that the company emphasizes giving back to the communities they serve. Once inside, the interior design was in the minimalist style with a huge open-space dining room with many large windows to bring in the light and the few walls were covered with placks giving recognition to local sports teams with their Team group picture on them. Another sign of the company's commitment to the communities for which they serve. Then what also caught my attention was the short wall labyrinth to help large number of customers line up in front of the ordering counter to wait for their turn to order. As soon as I reached the ordering counter, one of their friendly employees, wearing their red t-shirt uniform, warmly greeted me, answering all my questions about the menu, and taking my order. I ordered the #10, Bojangles' Chicken Sandwich Combo. With the Season Fries and a drink. And two Blueberry Cookies for dessert. I paid with my credit card and was given my receipt. I didn't have to wait much for my order to be served at the pick-up counter. The first thing I noticed was the bun so soft and fresh, a little thing but a sign of a good restaurant. The chicken inside was so plumpy and crunchy with just the right seasoning. The fries had just the right cut to help bring out their flavor. And the cookies tasted homemade and delicious. Even the drink from the machine was very refreshing. I ended having a refill. As I was eating I noticed other customers coming in and dining feeling like at home, many cars being served at the drive-thru, the employees showing teamwork and providing exceptional customer service, and even taking the time to dine themselves before the rush time arrived. I was so impressed with the food and service that I received, dining at a Bojangles for the first time, that I did my research and found out that Bojangles considers its people to be their number one asset. They emphasize developing and training their team members, recognizing their importance to the company's success.

When taking orders in the store or in the drive-through, they are rude and short with their questions and responses. I would recommend going across the street to McDonald's, where the staff greets you professionally politely and courteously every time. Really don't have a review about the food. It's Bojangles. They do quite frequently mess up my order because I think they are not listening and have no care if customers truly come or go from their store.

That unique broil flavor is something else. Or maybe it is the toppings that come with it: the lettuce, the tomatoes, the onions, the pickles, the mayonnaise, and the ketchup, of course. But the Whopper wouldn't be that good if it weren't for the people behind the counter that prepare it our way. That is why I've been coming to this Burger King restaurant in Vinton for a while now, and it's one of my favorites. The employees there are always very welcoming and friendly. They cook the burgers and fries at the moment they are ordered so that they are hot and fresh. The hamburger buns are always soft and fresh, as well as all the tomatoes, pickles, and all the other ingredients inside. And the fries are always so fresh and hot. All these little things really make a big difference when it comes to eating in one place rather than another. And this place is also always so clean and organized. Everything is in its place. You feel relaxed to be here and therefore better enjoy the eating experience. The only improvement I would suggest to the management of this place is not to put less lettuce in the Whopper than they should nor any of the other ingredients that make the Whopper what it is. It is not worth it depriving a customer from a complete Whopper to save a few pennies. Follow this advice, and this restaurant surely deserves a five-star rating. I totally recommend this Burger King, and my congratulations to its employees for such good work they do to maintain the good quality and service that Burger King has always been known for.

A family-owned restaurant that has been serving locals, travelers, and late-night crowds from its classic 10-stool lunch counter since 1930, and continues to be strictly cash-only. A restaurant that not only has survived, but strived for 96 years, owned by the same local family, and is currently owned by fourth-generation owner Matt Bullington. Who has said that the key to its longevity has been sticking to what has made them successful since they opened. A restaurant that has never been remodeled and whose menu has never been expanded, but that in this lies its real charm. A restaurant that despite economic hardship, tries never to raise prices and remain affordable. A restaurant that many people go to it because of their food, others because of their prices, and others like me this morning, because of the experience to sit at its counter and appreciate its character and charm while enjoying a classic breakfast of three fried eggs over easy with bacon and white toast basted with butter. That restaurant was and continues to be the iconic Texas Tavern, located in the heart of Downtown Roanoke. This morning I drove my pearl white Lexus up to it and parked in front of the sidewalk at the parallel parking with a one-hour limit. There is so much history behind this place that the excitement of the moment made the breakfast experience more momentous. Once inside, a young gentleman who has been working there for over two years now greeted me and immediately made me feel at home. He took my order and almost at the same time started making my toast and frying my eggs. In no time at all I had my order in front of me. I noticed and made him aware that one egg was missing. He made it right by frying me another egg over easy and I didn't mind because of his positive attitude and very unique personality. He also asked me how I'd like my coffee and prepared it just as requested with two creams and three sugars. Every one of the three eggs were perfectly fried over easy and I sprinkled a salt and pepper mixture over them. The bread of the toast was so fresh and tasty braised in butter. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and the high-quality of their food. I'm looking forward to returning one day at lunch time to taste some of their menu items of which they are known for. Starting with their Cheesy Western, the tavern legendary trademark burger served with a fried egg, cheese, pickles, and a sweet-and-tangy homemade cabbage relish. Or maybe a bowl of their secret-recipe chili served with onions. Or their trademark hot dog served Coney Island-style with chili, relish, mustard, and unions. All comfort food that make you feel good and bring a sense of nostalgia, warmth, and satisfaction. I highly recommend this small, historic, eatery for a one-of-a-kind, memorable, dining experience. One that you'll cherish and hold dear forever.

Today I was about to go to this Pizza Hut in Vinton but I called ahead of time and found out that they only do Take Out or Delivery, so I placed an order through Door Dash from home for a large 14" Supreme Pizza. It included pepperoni, seasoned pork, beef, mushrooms, green bell peppers and onions. It was set at Hand-Tossed Pizza Crust, with Classic Marinara Sauce, and Regular amount of cheese. And had it hand delivered. While I waited I noticed that they had other options of crust such as the Original Pan Pizza, the Original Stuff Crust, their Thin 'N Crispy, and their Tavern Pizza. They also had their Personal Pan Pizza. When the pizza arrived, it was delivered in a modern design box that was sealed with a sticky label up front. It arrived hot and had a lot of ingredients but lacked cheese and sauce, and I found the crust to be on the sweet side. Once at one of their now extinct Taco Bell / Pizza Hunt restaurants I had a Pepperoni Personal Pan Pizza (the only one in the menu) and I seemed to like it better than this one because the crust was not so sweet and it had more cheese and sauce and this made the spicy taste of the pepperoni stand out better. In conclusion, this pizza from this Pizza Hut in Vinton was good, but not as enjoyable, and I think I would have preferred their Original Pan Pizza.

After all, hot dogs are deeply embedded in America's food culture. After hearing so much about this local family restaurant and the important role it has played in the lives of the people of Roanoke and its visitors throughout the years, I decided to go visit for myself, explore the restaurant, taste its food, study its interior design and ambiance, and experience for myself a taste of the famous Roanoke Weiner that everyone is talking about. First of all, I was very impressed by the cleanliness of the restaurant and how it managed to mix the old with the new in its contemporary interior design, furnished with new but furniture design from the restaurants of the 60's, and souranded with artworks and photographs relevant to the long successful history of the restaurant and it's founder. Branded as the Hot Dog King and Roanoke's Oldest Restaurant, customers of all ages will have memories of the time when they visited their old location and soon to be new customers as they visit this new location with a historic resilience. All focused on one simple but delicious American cuisine item: the hot dog. When I entered the restaurant for a late lunch it was already full of customers eating there; some arriving and others leaving. Some even mentioning how they have been customers of the place for years. Above the ordering counter was a large menu for one to study while the customers in front ordered their food. When my time came up to order, a young lady greeted me and took my order. I ordered a hot dog. A sloppy Joe, french fries, homemade banana pudding and a small drink of Iced Dr. Pepper. As the lady took the order, a gentleman prepared and brought it to the counter. I went to sit down at a table where I could see the inside of the restaurant and at the same time view through the front window the Historic Market Building. The hot dog was a quality yet simple hot dog served in a fresh and soft bun with mustard, chili, and onions. The French Fries were crinkle cut. The Sloppy Joe Sandwich was served on a Hotdog bun. The hot dog and fries were delicious. The chili was a bit too salty for me as well as the sloppy Joe. I would also have appreciated it in a burger bun. The Banana Pudding could have used more sugar. But the dining experience was very unique and worthwhile. And I discovered a great place to enjoy some time alone or with others.
