I always drive out from LA to come to this barber shop. The atmosphere is very chill, very party rock. There is a huge widescreen in the middle of the establishment. The chairs are pointed towards the direction of the TV screen so you can watch music videos, movies, etc while getting your haircut. The stylists are often styling for various model hair shows. This is a definite local downtown La Puente hidden gem. Although, I think many of the locals flock to this place. One of the stylists even does LMFAO's hair on tour. In other news the price of a cut is now $15 which is still better than most shops and you cannot get nearly as good a cut as you do here. Went for the first time, they took my appointment after 6 with no problem. They did a design, cut, and dye job on my hair. I am extremely satisfied. My hair was done by Rich B, I HIGHLY recommend his services. He did a real nice masculine cut, that was still a lil crazy (its hard to get the right balance). GQ did an amazing design job on my hair. I've always come here for my brother never for myself& Ray loves what he does and has great energy, so for my spontaneous idea to get an undercut for the spring time, I decided to make an appointment with Ray. He calmed my nerves and got me all amped up and ready. He was very precise and careful. I never had clippers to my head being as I am a female and he made sure I was calm and wasn't irritated. I've been going to a barbershop in La Puente since 2005. After they moved to a different location and jacked up their prices a lot, I needed to find something else. My good friend from college recommended this place. It's a bit hard to find, but once you're on 1st St., it's that blue, two-story building. You have to sign in so everyone gets their haircuts in order (unless you have an appointment with one of the stylists). They just don't start cutting. They ask what you want and even offer ways to make your haircut/style even better. Gabe is the owner and takes care of his customers and employees. And that radiates with all the barbers/stylists. They offer you water or coffee and even go the distance with the small things. I usually get really hot once they put the little cape on me. Gabe offered to turn on the A/C for a little. Great place. And you are probably going to expect to be paying an entire back pocket (or purse) for a haircut, but that's not the case. $13 for a guy's haircut? Can't be beat. Found my new go-to place for haircuts. read more

I was browsing around yelp for a barber shop close to home when GQ Cuts popped up. I saw they had a good amount of reviews and a lot were from happy customers, so I gave this place a try. Marcy was who helped me out with the cut and she was very knowledgeable with how the cut I wanted should be done. After the cut I was offered a complementary scalp treatment to try out a formula they carry, which felt great. It gave my scalp a nice cool feeling(Literally) after the treatment. One of the reviews were right. Bull crap service. They have a tactic, they tell you in the sign in sheet that there is someone ahead of you and not help you at all to just shoot the crap with each other. Customer service is crap. They say that they have a lot of clientele but I believe that they only service the people that they know. I gave this place another try because i had a good experience the first time but this time it was really crap. I came in expecting that i would get a haircut within 25 min because i called prior to coming. A hour and 45 min later still waiting. I gave it 1 star because that first time was good when it was only the black guy. He is a good barber and doesn't belong in that craphole of a barbershop. My first time visit actually made me think that, this place would be a good place to go to again and again cause the cut is clean and good. But I guess they proved me wrong. Come on, there were barbers just bull craping with each other and not attending to their customers. Never going to come here again. Their system of customer service and business is not good. I've been to places with worse crappier service but I've never been to a place were i felt crappy and awkwarded with the vide that they had. I hope this review helps. read more

I have been coming to GQ Cuts on and off since 2009. I took a short break when I moved to Texas for a few years! I'm back now and loyal to GQ family. It is more than just a haircut when I come in I know I come to see my family or at least that's how I feel! :-) Gabriel "GQ" is an incredible business owner. I have always felt comfortable walking in and being greeted by not only him but his whole team. He is a friendly, kind and extremely hard working barber and hair stylist. He is also working with the Johnny B hair products and flys all over the country doing hair shows often. It's very inspiring to walk into a shop where I know the owner is always striving for his best in his professional career and to give the best to his employees and clients. I love GQs haircuts! I've been going here for about two years now and I'm finally giving my review. IF YOU LIKE DESIGNS YOU NEED TO CHECK THIS PLACE OUT. Wait: Think about it like this. When you see Asians lining up at an Asian restaurant you know it's legit. Be prepared because it is a long wait. Call ahead and schedule something so I never have a problem. Grab coffee at Starbucks or go CrossFit down the street. Otherwise be prepared to wait like an hour or two... especially if it's the weekend. Atmosphere: So as an Asian who loves hip hop, this is your spot. Music is always on point. As soon as you walk in, you get that local barbershop but without the Worldstar hip hop fights. Place is clean and there's a bunch of couches that you can just lounge around in. Cuts: I typically always get a fauxhawk with designs on the side. If you want a design make sure you see Ray. Raul also does designs too. They're always friendly. To end things, I'm very happy with my barbers and even though I moved I currently drive from ktown to here. It's hard to find a good barber. This place runs on the buddy system: you'll get your hair cut if you're the stylists' buddy. Otherwise, you get sent to the end of the line until their friends get their hair done first. I walked in and found two guys waiting for two barbers; I was told it'd be 30-45 minutes. I had 45 minutes, so I sat down. One of the barbers was with a lady and the other was with a boy. Shortly after I sat down, a girl walks in and was told she'd have to wait 20 minutes, which I found odd since I was _just_ told it'd be 45 minutes. As soon as the barber cutting the lady's hair finished, he took the girl and started cutting her hair. This was the first red flag; unless this particular barber works on women _only_ (which I've never heard of, anyone can cut men's hair), there's no reason he should have taken her before the rest of us -- she was the last one to walk in. Anyway, it still hadn't been 45 minutes, and maybe he really only does women's hair. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and waited. Fast-forward an hour; this guy was taking ridiculously long on the next customer. I would have gotten up to leave earlier but I did need a hair cut and the guy in the chair apparently needed a 30-minute shave. I was frustrated but waited patiently. Finally, an hour and a half after I'd first walked in the door, the barber's done with the guy before me. The barber calls my name and, with a sheepish grin, tells me this: "There's this other guy, he's been coming in and out of the store and he's around the corner. I have to cut his hair, so it'll be another 20 minutes." Are you out of your damn mind?! You CANNOT first tell me it'll be 45 minutes, then make me wait twice that long only to tell me to wait 20 minutes more because you have to cut your buddy's hair. That's crap. Don't just make me wait more just because your buddy showed up and you HAVE to cut his hair. And don't grin while you're giving me the shaft, asshole. That just tells me you know you fucked up. Clearly the 5-star reviews are written by the owner's friends. Maybe it's my fault for expecting more from 20-year-olds. Next time I'll go someplace that isn't run by children. read more

I usually go to D2 hair salon, but since that place is kind of pricey, I found GQ Cuts here on Yelp. After reading a few awesome reviews, I decided to go in and give it a go. Its a really small shop. Kind of hard to find. The signs could be bigger. It was pretty clean inside. I did feel a bit awkward when I walked in. When I think "GQ", I think "clean cut"... ehhh not here. Shop owner greeted me, really nice guy. I told him how I like my hair to be cut. He cut my hair, and I think it kind of looked like complete shit. It's pretty safe to say that I will never go in here again. I wouldn't recommend any of friends to come here, UNLESS they wanted to go bald. By the way, their motto is: "We fix $5 hair cuts" Which is totally fine, BUT where should I go to fix a $15 hair cut from GQ. So yeah, I pay $30 for a hair cut somewhere else... but I'm always happy when leaving there. I have been a long time patron of GQ Cuts and always look forward to my visits and leave feeling like a million bucks... that did not change when being glammed up for a special occasion. The shop was made available after hours to my (now) Husband and his groomsmen the night before the big day for haircuts, facial shaves and good convo. The boys had a blast getting the royal treatment in such an upscale yet comfortable environment. The next morning myself and all 6 of my bridesmaids took over the shop for hair and makeup. I've been coming here 6 months now with no problems at all. Every time I come in I ask for something different a different style and each time I came out happy with exactly what I asked for. They also give good feedback on what style I should go for. I used to pay 50$ for the same cut here except it's only 12-15$ plus tip. This shop is kinda tailored to a specific genre and style.
