This has got to be one of the best Gould's in the city! I scheduled an appointment for a facial with Cary and a massage with Katherine. This time I remembered to complete the required forms beforehand, which gave me more time to relax in the waiting area. I arrived about 10 minutes prior to my appointment. Cary came out right on time and escorted me to the back. Cary did an amazing job with my facial. She was thorough and any time she placed anything on my skin, she explained the benefits before moving forward. She was gentle and very nice to talk to. She provided me with recommendations on things I could do to make my skin even better. From there, I went on to my deep tissue massage with Katherine. Typically, I go for relaxation massages, but this time I decided to go with a deep tissue due to the soreness in my back. I gave her a heads-up on my trouble areas and then she went to work. She told me to just let her know if she hit a sensitive area or if she was using too much pressure. Oooooh, It hurt so good!! I had to breathe through the pain at times, but once I loosened up, I actually fell asleep. I was in a daze by the time she was done. Once I left the salon, I was so much looser and felt amazing. I'm glad I finally took the step to go for a deep tissue massage. At this point, there is no turning back! read more

Will not go back. Not deserving of 1 star. Had an appointment, when I got there waited over 10 minutes. Then found out that someone had just walked into the Stylist chair that I had an appointment with. They got me in. Stylist was the rudest person I've ever dealt with. Seemed irritated with me before I even sat down. I got up and walked out. A master stylist who wants to thin your hair with thinning shears does not meet the criteria of a master stylist. Would give 0 starts if I could! Don't try your luck with Cindy unless you want to pay another stylist to fix it. I've seen children cut their own hair better than the choppy "face framing" she gave me. I literally had natural face framing, just the ends needed to be trimmed so how she messed it up this badly is beyond me. Even after asking her to blend it in she didn't. She just kept cutting more away and making it worse until I told her that was enough! No toner was used on my highlights and they were bleached until they were starting to turn orange. While speaking about what the length should be, I said it should be longer and she stated she would "show me" what it looked like shorter and proceeded to CUT THE HAIR at the length SHE WANTED. I'm sorry, but when you're going to SHOW a client what it would look like if you cut it to a different length you don't go ahead and cut it off! She really showed her "skill" while drying my hair as she practically petted my hair flat to my head with the palm of her hand rather than using a brush and clips like any normal stylist. There was no point-cutting done on my ends either so they also look weird too. If you want someone to totally screw up your hair, go see Cindy! Shame on whoever gave her a license to do hair, this is by far the WORST work I've had. read more

Extremely disappointing visit, booked a wash, cut and blow dry for my mother in laws funeral and left with short damaged hair with having to go back for a senior stylist to try to fix it. I cannot believe that such an expensive salon can hire a hairdresser who has no idea what she is doing. Thanks to her now I have to grow my hair out. What a bitter experience, I do not recommend this salon or any other in the chain. Quite shocking experience... Karon or Kerry? person - luck of knowledge replaced with cockiness! I should have read reviews prior letting her touch my hair. Came for a great cause, hair donation but left feeling awful. First, she would not even recognize henna as a plant but believes it is chemical. Than, after putting to the the chair, would move me to wash hair, then, again to wash... and again off to cut... What in the world? Moreover, she is extremely rough with your head when washes but when I slightly objected madly stated "Nobody ever told me that!" Well, I highly doubt that, unless, she just dislikes girls with long hair? I have never experienced such a hard hair wash, still hurts! It had always used to be most pleasant part, defiantly not by her. lastly, she would stand you up to straiten your hair, as "it is impossible to do in the chair in a sitting position" per her opinion???!!! Perplexing! The worst part, I had advised several times to make hair longer in front but shorter on the back... Complete opposite occurred, WHY?! After washing my hair she did not towel my hair or give me a towel then she cut very little off my hair. I didn't say anything because I'm not one too complain. 45.00 dollar cut left her a ten dollar tip. Will never again go back to this salon. After going home I actually had to cut some hair off. My first appointment with Gypsy I walked in and told her to faux hawk my hair. She had no problem coming at me with the clippers and doing something extreme. She does my amazing color. I love that I can come in with some pictures and ideas and she works with me to make them happen. she isn't afraid to take risks. I love that because I don't want boring hair. Okay, never had a facial or been to Gould's. When you first walk in it looks pretty nice. I was taken back for my facial. Tanya did a good job. Although I wish I would of been asked or had an opportunity to give some history on my skin in person- so my facial was more personalized. Anyways after leaving Tanya who was lovely. I was taken back to get my nails done. I asked for tips and was told she couldn't do tips and I had to book that in advance okay that is fair but when I called to book my appt I wasn't told I had to specify tips. And I was VERY CLEAR I HAD NEVER BEEN TO A GOULDS. The manager got called back. It was awkward and unnecessary. I said I wasn't upset but I was not informed of this and asked if could come back to get my nails done together another day. I was told no... or I would lose the gift certificate. So I proceeded with my pedicure. Someone else offered to do my tips. While speaking with her I told her I was considering dip- she said "dip is bad for your nails" That should of been my sign. Then I said I wanted gel on the acrylics... she said "no you don't want to do that"... I was so confused but also I felt forced into using what was left on my gift card. So I proceeded. Worst nails ever. I was kind. Believe me I was not rude to her. I tipped her and left nicely. But my thumb had a huge chip from her slamming the file into my nail... and there were no dryers for my nails to cure. Just some "dry spray" and a tiny fan. My polish melted off as soon as I walked outside. I paid, left, and went to straight to the nail bar. I'm appreciative of my gift and did enjoy the facial. Made a last minute appointment this morning to get a much needed trim. I was paired with Ms. Phyllis. She was amazing. I had previously seen my hair stylist friend a few months ago and got a cute pixie cut. It has now grown out and almost resembled a mix between a bob and mullet. So definitely needing a trim to even out my hair as it grows out, I saw Ms. Phyllis. You can definitely see her calm confidence radiating from her as she explained how she was going to cut your hair and proceeded to cut my hair. Throughout the whole process she explains what she is doing and why she is doing it. My stick straight, course Asian hair has been tamed. I can't wait to see her in 2 months for another trim as I go on the journey of growing out my hair into a lob. read more

This spa was very well done. The separation between the services and rooms was clear, the ambiance was relaxing and luxurious, and the ladies are an absolute hoot. I enjoyed spending the afternoon there with the bridal party I was with. The services were a little more basic for the price you may pay elsewhere, but I am happy that all the girls seemed happy to be there. I hope they get paid well! read more

I had my nails done here and hair cut and dye. Nail was ok but they had no cold water for my feet so it was boiling hot and the tech had to continuously poor cold water with a tiny cup a million times. And then there was my hair, the dye job was fine but the cut was horrible and she didn't ask if I wanted layers or not until it was too late and then I asked for curls and she made my hair like a 10 year old girl for Sunday church. Oh and when it came to washing my hair they had no hot water so she washed my hair dye out with cold water and also did a sloppy job splashing my eyes. Horrible. read more

I went to this salon because of the previous review that was written. It told of FeFe and how great the was. I booked my appointment with her. Being new to town, I rely on YELP for everything. I booked my appointment with Phee Phee Green. She was a true delight, and is very knowledgeable and listens to what you have to say regarding your hair. I felt like I'd found a new friend. I only had my color touched up, but will definitely go back to Phee Phee again in a heart beat. She matched my color perfectly...if you need "hair help" or a new style....definitely call Phee Phee. Never again! I took my daughter there for a prom half-up do. They charged me $75!!!! For less than 30 minutes of work? Are you kidding me? There were no intricate braids, just a quick curl and pin it up. Goulds salon employees seem to have the mindset that they are better than everyone else in town. I was told that my hair stylist had curly hair and knew how to cut curly hair, including how to do a deva cut. The girl on the phone warned me that she was Russian and therefore "had problems with English." Because I'm not sure what to do with my hair, I booked a consultation, to be *potentially* followed by a trim or cut. Apparently Natalia wasn't aware that I booked first a consultation? She led me to her chair and curtly asked what I wanted, so I started saying what I had planned (I've cut my own hair for 6 years due to past damage and bad experiences, it's uneven, needs layers, I just want it to be healthy) and she seemed really not to care, or even listen, and told me my hair was totally even, and if it wasn't, no one could tell due to the curls, and all the shorter previously damaged bits are just layers (even though in 6 years I never cut layers into my hair). She seemed really exasperated and like she didn't want to cut my hair at all. I left after like 3 minutes of her arguing with me. She didn't have curly hair, she clearly has no idea how to cut curly hair, and her problem with English seems to be that she's a bit rude--I speak Russian and know lots of Russians, it's not a cultural thing. I didn't have the greatest experience the time before this; the stylist was really rough with the comb during a blowout, I was so sore! So I think this place is primarily concerned about making money, and less so about actually helping you care for your hair. And especially if your hair is really curly, or very damaged, just don't go. read more

Gypsy is really awesome. Always go to this location with the daughter and she works with both of us. From bleaching to drastically cut hair, Gypsy is our go-to girl. Very inconsistent. If you call to see if can get a hair cut that day, don't expect to get one. If they tell you can come at a certain time, they do NOT hold that spot for you. I live a little ways from this location. I was told on the phone that If I arrived by a certain time, I could get my hair cut there today. When I moved to this area I was flying back to the west coast to get them done. i found Goulds in Collierville, stylist, JoAnn Riggs and woohoo, five years later I am getting then done every six or so weeks. If you wear extensions or want extensions (for just volume or length) make an appointment with JoAnn. She is the best! First of all, I should mention that I'm actually from Austin, TX and am only here for the month while I am waiting for my lease to start on my new place in New York. So in the mean time, I'm staying in Collierville with family and needed to get my hair done. After checking out all the reviews on Yelp, I decided to try Gould's since the reviews sounded so good. So I made an appointment for highlighted, a trim, eyebrows wax and a manicure and a pedicure....you know, the whole shebang. Boy am I glad I did. I absolutely love the results and I had a great time there. My stylist was Debbie and she is real fun to talk with and she knows what she is doing. I love the way she trimmed my hair and I love how my color turned out. If she makes a suggestion, you should trust her because she knows what she is talking about. Anyway, when ever I'm in town I will definitely go back to see her. She is now my regular stylist here in Collierville. read more

Okay... This is my second review. After speaking to the receptionist today, she was very understanding about me not getting the style I wanted and scheduled me with someone else for tomorrow morning and said that they would fix it for free! That is great, because mine was supposed to be free in the first place, due to the fact that I donated 10 inches of my hair to Locks of Love, however they charged me $30 for it and I got a not so good hair cut in return for my 10 inches of hair and $30. So I will give them 3 stars for fixing the hair for me and not re-charging me again. Everyone was nice, but it should have been right from the beginning. I am hoping that I will get a good cut tomorrow. We will see how it goes and "if" I will remain a customer or not. Tomorrow's cut will be the game changer! Wish me luck! read more

I love Gould's. More... I love Shawn. I went/have been going here since 2005 and Shawn has never failed me. Or my mom, sister, and brother. Now, one thing I wish all hair reviews would have is what type of hair people have so I know what a stylist is good at working with. My hair is straight as a pin, baby fine in texture, and thick as all get out. That being said, I don't think there is any type that Shawn can't work with as all of my family members have different types of hair. Shawn is also a color genius. Another great thing about Shawn is he will be honest and tell you if he doesn't think something is a good idea. He always seems to get what I'm going for, whether I'm describing it or showing him eight pictures from my phone. I moved away from Memphis in 2012 and yet every time I boo a flight back, the very next thing I do is book a hair appointment. Shawn is very, very popular though so book early! read more
