The buses often leave early, which is terrible if you have to transfer. I recommend adding an extra 30 minutes to your travel time. Temperature control is poor. However, fares are reasonable for long distance and airport service. read more

Some drivers are terrible. She made us walk down the street to catch her, then fussed us out when we got on the bus today. 1:12 pm, Chapel Hill to Durham. Corner of Estes and Franklin Streets. When she stopped, she stopped up the street from the stop and made us walk up the street to the stop and then passed right by us walking. I tried to make a complaint as Ivecdone several timescin the past. They just ignored it and did not call me. Bus number 2020. Brown skin, heavy set woman with short curly hair. They charge more than any busses, but the service and drivers are the worst of all of the busses. Again, an unbelievable service from, once again. GO TRIANGLE. Terrible. read more

The bus route itself is great, but the website by UMO (umopass.com) is useless. I ordered a Go Triangle card, tried to register it online via umopass.com and wasn't able to log in. Reset the password 3 times, still nothing. Can't verify the username, no way to verify the username. Called 1-866-778-6824, "Press 2 to dial by directory", OK, how would I dial by Directory if I don't know anyone there? Finally got someone on the phone. "You have to go to the station and talk to them", I said, why do I need to go to the station? Fix your website. She puts me on hold for 15 minutes and then hangs up. So bad. Went to the 'Go Raleigh' downtown, the response was: "Oh you need to go to 'Go Triangle'......... Go Raleigh, Go Triangle....................too many names, too many gimmicks, a website that doesn't work, a card I can't use, and phone support that sucks. Who came up with all these ideas? If Raleigh, Cary, Durham and all these places are part of the Triangle, why not just create ONE card called 'Go Triangle' ? Why complicate things? Next step would be to fix the useless/worthless website. read more

Go triangle! Go square! Go octagon! Oh wait. Durham's Go Triangle bus network is a good service, but not nearly extensive enough considering how many students are in these parts, and how many people don't need to be driving around. It's still pretty cheap, the buses are shiny and new, but the schedules and routes could be expanded, and don't even try and get around anywhere late at night without a taxi. It's the same story in Chapel Hill, and to some degree in Raleigh. But when you live in one of the loveliest areas in the country, I guess a bad bus service is not really going to bother you. What bothers me though is when the bus comes way early and is long gone by the time you get there. The bus drivers are ridiculously friendly though. And so am I, if we're in my bedroom. Today the 300 Bus in Raliegh just blew past the Bus Stop, I honestly think he saw me in a wheelchair and couldn't be bothered. I had two bags of groceries and was in the sun. December 18, 2022 11:25am bus 2117 the bus driver waited for the passengers to load and then swept the bus causing dust and dirt to fly in the passengers faces! I don't want any of this dirt on my clothes! This was very unprofessional and rude in my opinion. I hope that this bus driver is given a customer service class here in the near future. read more

The TTA, short for Triangle Transit Authority runs a regional route around the 3 major districts here in the area. It goes to Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill. There's also an express route to and from Hillsborough for those people who might work in Chapel Hill. Much like most of the M-F express routes they run on mornings and in the latter part of the afternoon-- when people are getting off work. The buses are fairly comfortable, but since they got these new colorful buses, my butt hurts sitting in those thinly cushioned seats for my sweet buns. Ouch! I just don't like the seats on these new buses at all-- the backs are shorter and less comfy. I prefer the old busses on the inside since the back of the chair is high and cushioned like it should be-- end to end. The general fare is $2.00 each way or you can get an all day pass for $4 or $5 and ride all over the 3 districts as you please for the day. I ride this bus to work, it's less dramatic than dealing with some of the people around here with non-driving skills. Some of the buses start running pretty early around 5:30am or 5:45am-- depends on the bus line. The buses are typically very clean and most of the drivers are very friendly and helpful. read more

TTA has its advantages and disadvantages. Advantages -Much cheaper than taking a cab from RDU (though slower). If you're trying to get to Chapel Hill, it's $4 to get from RDU to Franklin Street, a much better deal than the close to $50 you could spend based on where you are in CH. -Clean, decent buses. They're structured similar to the Chapel Hill buses. -If you're going to the UNC Hospitals or UNC area or Franklin St, you're good to go. -Drivers are quite good too. Disadvantages -If you're in a hurry, it's not an option. Simply put, it takes awhile to get from Point A to Point B, with all that waiting and whatnot. -The buses from RDU to the TTA Terminal are not conducive to large bags. So if you're in a hurry, it's not an option, but if you want some money from RDU to Chapel Hill, Durham, etc, it's definitely a good option. read more

We missed our plane and had to stay for an unplanned night in A hotel nearby. We weren't looking to pay too much for anything, but were bored so I googled local transit. We were very new to public transportation and had NO CLUE what we were doing but the bus drivers and customer service lines were very helpful. read more

You would think the one job of busses would be to come when they're scheduled. But unfortunately you would be mistaken if you're dealing with GoTriangle. Don't even bother trying to catch one of these after 5pm - you'd be better off hitchiking. It's not even that they're just late, they straight up don't show up at all half of the time. Over the years I've made as little use of TTA as humanly possible, simply because the system carries with it a heart-pounding sense of danger. Will we make it to our destination in one piece? Will we be able to make it back? Only god knows. The buses themselves are in pretty good shape, and the drivers tend to know their stuff pretty well. I hate paying for buses (even when I'm riding a bus that demands it I try to get away without paying, usually with success), so that grates on me, even if it is only a couple of bucks per trip. Their scheduling, however, is a little off. The majority of the time I check the bus schedule, only to get to the stop on time and find out that the bus rolled through 10 minutes early, leaving me stranded for god knows how long. Either that or it will be running incredibly late, same effect. That's a big problem, especially when your schedule is tight and you're trying to catch the last bus of the day. read more

The Triangle Transit is a great way to get around town, but will somebody explain to me why they don't run on Sunday or later at night. Folks from the various cities do work late shifts and on the weekend. Just saying let's really be a progressive state. GoTriangle is my first consistent experience with public transit in North Carolina. In general, public transit isn't really a thing in the south, and since I grew up here, I've always been really car-minded. Last summer I got a job at UNC and decided that I'd give riding the bus to work a shot, since my apartment is literally right across the street from the main Durham transit hub. Plus UNC pays for a free bus pass for all employees who ride public transit instead of driving in. After six months, I'm officially sold. The buses are all pretty clean and run on time. I walk to the bus station, but there's a parking deck right next to it for folks who have to drive in. And the drivers are all really pleasant. Ms. Rose on the 405 from Durham to Chapel Hill is my all time favorite!! Every now and then traffic or something will hold the bus up, and in those cases, it would be nice for GoTriangle to put an update on the Rider app (which tells you in RealTime where the buses are). Sometimes the buses look "stuck" at a particular stop when the driver is on a break, and there's no way to know if they're actually on a break or if the bus is broken down. Aside from that, I love riding the bus. It saves SO much money and headache not having to drive. I actually get annoyed with myself when I oversleep and miss the bus lol. Definitely give GoTriangle a shot! read more

I, too, avoid taking the TTA whenever possible. It's not that it's a bad service - in fact it's a generally well-maintained and smoothly operating asset to the Triangle area. Most of my TTA trips were attempted excursions from UNC's campus to Wal-Mart on 15-501 (like 4-5 miles?), but on one occasion my friend and I actually ended up stuck at one of the main terminals in downtown Durham with no clue how to get back. Luckily, the station employees were very friendly and helpful. Of course, I find it difficult to figure out the Chapel Hill Transit routes so trying to plan a multi-stop trip on the TTA is pretty tough. If you're reasonably savvy about public transit it shouldn't be a problem, and at $2 per trip it's definitely a bargain. read more

My roommate in college dated a guy who went to NC State. After watching her bravely board the TTA and make something like 5 connections to get to his campus, I decided that I was safe and savvy enough to also take the plunge. The mission? South Square Mall, Durham. (For those of you who haven't been around long enough, South Square used to be where the spanking new Target, etc. now stands. And it was pretty close to pitiful. But they had an Express store, and I was no doubt in need of some clubbin' clothes!). The trip from UNC to that area of 15-501 took around 30 minutes with all the stops, but it was pretty smooth and not at all crowded. Cheap, too. And I made it to and fro on two occasions without getting stranded in the bowels of Durham or anything! read more

The TTA gets public funds, but like most "services" in Durham, you get the real impression that the employees aren't screened, have no training in public service, and basically feel bullet-proof when it comes to their job performance. Case in point . . . It's 6:15am . . . cold, rainy the bus is scheduled to arrive at one of it's first stops on it's first run of the day at 6:18am. The schedule posted at the stop suggests you arrive 5 minutes early because they can't promise when the bus will actually arrive. From experience I have learned that the bus usually arrives around 6:22am. Did I mention it was cold and raining? Not for the first time the bus did not arrive by 6:18 or 6:22 or even 6:48... the buses are supposedly 30 minutes apart. The bus arrived at 6:58am. I waited in the cold rain for nearly 45 minutes. As the bus pulled up, I told another man waiting who was grumbling, "Watch, there will be no apology or explanation." I was right . . . again. Out of perhaps 10 bus drivers I have experienced, two have been pleasant. This one was not one of them. After 'punching' my ticket, I told her, "Thanks for the apology." as I walked to my seat. Her response, dripping with attitude, was, "For what?" She knew the previous bus hadn't arrived, and therefore, she was aware that a lot of people had been left standing in the cold rain for quite some time. But she felt no obligation to make people feel a little better by greeting those stranded with a warm smile and an apology. Was it here fault? Maybe not, but she represents the company. Rather than smooth things over, she chose to take an attitude and make things worse. She informed me that a bus had broken down and things happen. That's true. Unavoidable things happen sometimes. But a well-trained employee with a public service emphasis expect people to be upset and attempts to defuse the situation. Not most TTA drivers. I pointed out that she was also late. Her bus was at least 10 minutes late. Her snotty reply was that she was late because she was helping out. Helping who? The customers who had already stood in the rain for at least 30 minutes? If TTA thought about public service, that second bus wouldn't have been delayed. Find someone else to "help out". Don't keep your customers stranded even longer. Who's making these decisions? Given the manner in which this driver handled the situation, I addressed the other passengers and told them that they should contact the TTA and complain about things or service would never improve. The driver's response was to call into the station and inform them that she had a disgruntled passenger. Blah blah. We are in hard economic times. People are losing their jobs. People with jobs are falling behind the cost of living. When I pointed out to this terrible driver the fact that there are a lot of out of work people who would love to have her job, she said in no uncertain terms that she wasn't worried in the least about her job. Why would a bus driver feel so confident that she could act in any way and not have her job threatened? Is there no supervision to speak of? No accountability? The TTA bus service in general is pretty good. When I went to the station to buy tickets, the woman there was very helpful. The buses don't stick to their schedules but generally you can count on them within a 10-15 min block of time. Things do happen, and passengers would be a little bit more understanding if they thought the delays were unavoidable. But when faced with so many drivers with obvious attitudes and no people skills, you begin to wonder . . . . TTA, your drivers are out of control and clearly feel unaccountable to their customers. Not everyone who rides the bus has to. I think there is a perception that we have no choices so we have to put up with lousy service. We don't. Please start training your drivers better! I rode with triangle transit for about 4 years. The last year has seen service go down the tubes. This is regarding the morning run on the 405--Buses are always breaking down, Drivers are not always on time. and the past year I have been stranded in the cold and rain and late for work as result. This has happened so many times, that I no longer use the service. I just don't trust TTA anymore. While many of the drivers are professional, there have been a few lately that don't seem to care about the passengers much. When you try to call they complain they will not do anything but take your number so that someone else can call you later. Try calling it and see for yourself. read more

I will first say that the majority of driver's are very friendly and helpful. Although, the bus is not option if you need to be anywhere on time, or plan to get home in time to sleep. I understand everyone needs to train, and things happen. It does seem the majority of the time, driver's have no regard for people's time. I would think if a bus is running late it would be courtesy to hold the next bus. Also, the routes take way too long, and don't run to the rural areas where transit is needed most. My suggestion, have the folks who design the routes ride every bus for several weeks. That way, they will know how it feels to have 16 hour day; that should have only been 12. read more

service has been cut on the 805 route. now no buses run from woodcroft after 9:26 a.m till after 3 pm..yes almost 6 hours with no way to get to UNC! and on the way from UNC to Durham it is the same..no way to get home..so have a 10 o'clock appointment at the university...? you wont be able to try to get home till after 3 in the afternoon. hows that for service??? the explanation is lack of need and ridership during those times. but when u do not own a car and HAVE to get to UNC on a regualr basis at non-peak times you are now with NO, i repeat no options..thanks TTA read more
