Super fun experience with great, enthusiastic instructors in a safe environment. Was supposed to play 3 hours of volleyball and the game got cancelled last minute, had nothing better to do so I looked this up and went on a whim. Really glad I did, turned out to be a TON of fun. They have you do an intro class that lasts about an hour, from top to bottom. You get to choose between two bow models: the Compound bow or the Recurve bow. Both have their strengths and both are accessible to beginners. A hyper-friendly instructor gives you safety tips and sets you up with a target 5 yards away. You're taught about proper stance, aiming technique and overall etiquette (to make sure you don't accidentally shoot someone, or yourself). And they even take your photo upon request (they get that all the time). At the end of class, they usually round up with a fun competition between students, and the winner gets a little prize! Anyone who tells you they think that's silly is either lame or just lying because they lost. Afterwards, you can work on your new skills by purchasing some lane-time. Usually they bump you up to 10 yards. It's harder than it looks but you start to get the feel for it pretty quick. Can't wait to go back! read more

Helpful staff, good vibes, 20 yard indoor range, Cons: you can't live here, at some point you have to go home I discovered this place while searching online for archery ranges around NYC, and I'm so glad I did. This place is great to get your introduction into archery, or to make it a group thing (birthdays, corporate, etc). There are range safety officers to control when to put bows up and when to put bows down to retrieve arrows, and they'll give you small tips and help you with your form too! As per their policy, if it's the first time you come to them, you have to join their intro class (mandatory for safety). Intro classes last about an hour and they are very fun. I've been coming to this location every weekend for the past month and I've never had a problem renting lane space. However, if you are planning on going to their location in Manhattan, I'll advise to call ahead first because it's a smaller place and sometimes they are busy with events. read more

This place definitely got an upgrade! I remember coming here a couple of years ago and they only had archery. I came here a couple of times for archery and it was pretty fun. The instructor was great and made the class enjoyable. My siblings took me here for a surprise birthday gift and I thought we were going for archery. Little did I know that this place now have knife and axe throwing! I was very intimidated at first because it looked dangerous but with the help of the instructor I was able to strike a knife in the wood. The instructor is very helpful. They help you with your form and give you advice for better throwing. There was a told of 9 of us (including people we don't know) in the room. The instructor tells us when we can throw. Once everyone threw their knives the instructor tell us when we can go pick it up. We each have a total of 5 knifes. (5 silver or 5 black) remember to make sure that you take the knives off the Wall first before you pick up the ones on the ground! We threw knives for about 20 mins and we moved on the axes. (It was pretty awesome throwing axes) After about another 20 mins the instructor told us to go to the room next door. There we met the other party that was throwing knives and axes. They told us we will be playing a team game consist of knife and axe throwing. The most important thing is to pop the balloon in the middle! In the end my team won!!!!! Yay! Axe throwing is pretty cool but knife throwing is much easier. The axes are kinda heavy for me so it was harder for me. There is also 2 ways of throwing the knife. Backward throwing and forward throwing. Backward is hold the knife by the top and forward throwing is holding the knife at the bottom (or the handle) Forward throwing is much easier for me. Had a great experience here with the intro archery class. Class is fun, hands-on and interactive. Shooting a bow and arrow actually takes a lot of arm strength and motor skills as you work to aim at the targeted bulleye. I was lucky enough to hang with a few of my fellow Yelp Ladies and we had a blast. The instructors were very patient with us and gave us pointers to improve our stance and aim. At the end of the session we did a "hunger-game-" esq friendly competition with the rest of the class. Popping colored balloons is a lot harder than it sounds. Will def be back one day. read more

The staff showing the class the ropes were enthusiastic, knowledgeable and hands on with each of us over the course of the instruction. I started off squeezing my hand that was holding the bow making all my arrows hit the targets as if I was firing from the other side of the room. Once my turn for one on one instruction came we tweeked my bow, stance and handling of the bow till my shots were landing like I'd been at it for months. I even ended up winning the end of class challenge. Lots of couples, groups of friends, even a father son duo...I may have been the only loner. I LOVE Gotham Archery. I have gone with friend and taken the intro class several times for the last couple of years. I can attest each person teaching the class has a lot of patience and work well with a different range of ages and learning abilities. Saw an video on Facebook and decided I had to go. I made a booking for 2 for the 8PM TO 9PM Introductory Archery Class the day of. They recommend arriving there a little early so you can deal with all the safety waivers and such but if you already filled this out from the link in your email, you're all set. The class itself was very engaging and super fun. Had Russell and Cliffton as our instructors. They were constantly giving us pointers on our posture, readjusting our sight and just super great overall! We ended the class with a little fun competition and I ended up winning a awesome bag! Already told my friends to come by so 11/10 would recommend and I'm scheduling my next visit soon! read more

Fun and such a lovely place/staffing! It was my first time every doing archery, and to be honest, I was a bit nervous but the very cool idea of becoming Katniss was tempting. The location is in Gowanus/Cobble Hill, so it's a bit of a trek to get to if you're depending on public transportation. I was surprised by the large space when you walked in. There are a handful of sections (check-in, training, and the actual archery range) and even a waiting area full of board games. I was bummed to find out I was late for the 1 hour introductory training class by 20 minutes (which is mandatory for your first time), but one of the workers was kind enough to do a 1:1 lesson with me. Score! There were about 10 other people already shooting, pretty empty apparently as it was pouring outside and a weekday evening. Staff is superb here! Very friendly and accommodating. They also have a great range of bows and arrows to choose from. It definitely seems that many of the people who come here are regulars. Fun experience, and excited to come back! read more

My coworkers and I somehow decided that we should do a knife-throwing team outing, and Gotham Archery offered it. The class was taught by the Great Throwdini, who holds several world records. Sadly, he wasn't decked out in his performance garb, but his accuracy and precision were both something to behold. We started out with individual lessons (there were 11 of us, so it took a little bit of time), and then we each got 5 knives apiece and went at it with the 5 lanes). At some point, they also offered us hatchets, which was waaay easier (and more fun, in my opinion). We played some "games", which weren't incredibly organized or structured, but overall it was a great time. Not sure how much it cost, but I'm sure I'm glad I didn't have to pay. The staff member from GA who was also instructing us was a great guy and was super helpful. Fun times all around! read more

So much fun!! I took the intro class, and our instructor Nathaniel was lively, funny, and extremely knowledgeable. He played the Game of Thrones theme music during a competition amongst the other beginners, which made me like him even more!! Safety is this company's top priority--if you follow the instructions you will not get hurt, you'll enjoy yourself, and you'll learn a lot. If you haven't been to Gotham Archery, you are missing out. Archery is so much fun but even more so at Gotham. The atmosphere is fun and the staff are all energetic and so amazing. Call me RobinHood Gotham archery is the best! I've been to other archery places before but none of them even come close to Gotham. If you've never done archery before , I highly recommend starting. They offer intro classes the first week of every month and instructors here are amazing. Super enthusiastic and they really take the time to teach you proper technique and safety. That's one of the things I really liked about Gotham. A very friendly/ comical and helpful staff. I took the training course with my SO and I would say we qualify as archers now. This class was a lot of fun. You start with regular targets to the hang of things and then you move onto this 3D shooting range where you are shooting at various "real" targets like animals and fruits! It was quite the experience. The class was overall an hour long but your instructors are super conscious about the time so they make sure you maximize the time you have shooting with your bow and arrow. Gotham also offers a shooting range for the more experienced shooters and you can BYOB (bring your own bow) or rent one theirs. After trying the training course here I am definitely itching to come back! read more
