I've been having weekly massages with Kate for 6 weeks or so now, and I cannot recommend her…read moreenough. Massage is critical for my health, as I've got a disabling chronic illness that keeps me quite sedentary (and with a hyper-sensitive nervous system and low pain tolerance). I've had monthly massage as part of physical therapy, for years- but since March 2020 I hadn't had a single one. So I was in pretty bad shape when I first went to Kate. And by the end of my 60-minute session, my chronic pain was so far reduced by her skill, I almost wept with relief. She's not the cheapest massage therapist I've ever had- but she's by far the best, and worth every penny. Even days when I'm not in pain, I can feel the difference after her massage. And she varies her technique and focus based on how I'm feeling as well as her own expertise. Every massage with her has made a noticeable difference in my body, for the better. She's also very personable and calm, doesn't try to chat at me during the massage, and has created a calming, welcoming environment with her studio (from the electric fireplace to the music, to the warming massage table, the cleanliness of the space, the plants and crystals, etc.) Her cupping machine is interesting, and her massage lotion is great for my dry, sensitive skin. She's a very positive, kind person (as well as being observant) and clearly is continuing to develop her considerable skill. It was pleasant and freeing to remain clothed in my comfiest yoga pants & T-shirt, so that she could gently stretch and pull my limbs. I am not from the Roanoke area. I am in town doing some physical work that requires much lifting…read moreand bending. Given that I have significant back issues with stenosis, spondylolithiasis, disc degeneration, a sizable bone spur, and arthritis in the L1 and sacrum area, massage is a therapeutic modality that I require on a regular basis. My particular situation is somewhat dire in that most people would probably have capitulated and had surgical intervention. However, I don't see that in my future. Chiropractic ART, pharmacology, yoga, physical therapy, acupuncture, etc. are all arrows in my quiver that I use routinely. In addition I receive spinal injections every three months that cost $9000 per shot. Fortunately I have insurance. I was reluctant to try to get a massage here it as I don't have familiarity with local businesses nor have I heard any recommendations for who is good. Fortunately, I did make an appointment and had what can only be described as the best massage of my life!!! My masseuse was a delightful woman named Lulu. She is remarkable. She seems to have a keen understanding of physiology and an intuitive sense for those problem areas that plague me. Prior to my injury, I saw massage as an indulgence. Now it is a requirement. I have had countless massages since my injury in 2015, but none has ever approached the skill and insight that Lulu demonstrated. And compared to the cost of the spinal injections this seems almost a bargain. There is no way I can thank her enough. The relief I feel is nothing short of remarkable. I have not had a massage of this caliber in YEARS, and now all I can do is lament that I don't live closer (got this massage on a visit to Roanoke). I got the Swedish/Deep Tissue combo because I wanted something familiar and the barefoot thing sounded odd... I wasn't sure how it would work. Now I am 100% confident that I will see Melanie every time I go to Roanoke (partner's parents live there). Next time I am going to try the barefoot work.
