They do business by appointment, so you are the only customer in the store, getting individual attention. They make their products, so everything is individual. They take the time to educate you, so you understand exactly what you buy. They provide an independent appraisal so you know you got what you paid for. And their work is top notch so there is outstanding value, both in what you buy and in the workmanship of their work. They sell gold by weight so a fair price is guaranteed. The best part? You leave there feeling like you made new friends. Thank you Richard and Isabel... you guys rock. I would never go anywhere else.

When my fiancé and I (at the time not yet engaged) decided we wanted to make the next big step in our relationship, the thought of meeting with a jeweler was daunting. Although we knew nothing about diamonds, we *did* know that we wanted to shop together, and we wanted to give our business to somewhere family-owned instead of a big box store. So we committed probably every faux pas known to jewelry-kind and walked into Elyse Jewelers without making any appointment, completely on whim. Richard and Christine were outstanding in every possible way. Not only were we completely clueless (AND had no prior appointment), but we really hadn't done any research or scoped out other jewelry stores. They took the time to sit with us and give us the best Introduction to Diamonds 101 primer we could've asked for. Everything from the grading scale to cost to distribution was highlighted. Richard was open and transparent, and not once did we feel rushed or pressured into making any purchases. Richard was open about how diamonds were priced and where Elyse Jewelers stood in the diamond-buying hierarchy. He took samples out to show us the differences in size and color and emphasized the importance of cut. By the time we were done being thoroughly educated, we were both positive we would be coming back to make our future purchases here (with a proper appointment of course). During our next visit Richard discussed designs and styles. I knew I wanted a particular look, but I was struggling to articulate it -- Richard was able to translate my idea into a custom design that perfectly fit what I had in mind! Each step of the process was really fun and exciting. Being able to see a paper sketch transform into a 3D rendered model and then into a wax replica was admittedly way cooler than my fiancé and I anticipated. Richard was very upfront during each step and reminded us that if we wanted changes or adjustments we shouldn't be afraid to speak up! My fiancé's proposal was wonderful and memorable to me -- at the same time, I think the experience of creating the ring together from start to finish was something really special for both of us. Knowing we had something designed specifically to complement the stone we selected and fit well with my hand goes beyond any expectations I had at the beginning. I felt like we were collaborating with an artisan instead of just another customer. We can't wait to go back and look at wedding bands!

It had 6 prongs that were too high, snagging on to everything. Overtime the prongs moved. It was awful. My white gold ring was horrible, needing to be re-rhodiumed, dull/lack luster. Not only that. It was a size 4, needing to be resized. I could barely take it off for repair. I trusted my ring to Longs. It is a family owned business th stunning at takes pride in their quality offerings and workmanshift. Update, the mounting is going strong, no bent prongs. I am very glad I switched from 6 prong to 4. The diamond is more visible and the prong is very sturdy.

When I asked about the appraisal, the first questions from the Long's representative was "did you buy it here?" When I said no, their entire attitude changed. I was persona non grata. I was nobody. They could have cared less about my business or interacting with me. They told me I could go to the website and schedule an appointment in late January Before I left I asked where their watches were as I thought I'd take a look. The representative pointed towards them. I walked over and there were 2 salespersons there, neither of which asked if they could help me. I just left. Won't go back. I buy 2-3 watches a year but it won't be from Longs. They might want to watch "Pretty Woman"....mistake...huge mistake.

The woman who unsuccessfully tried to help us made it a difficulty and awkward experience. The cleaned the ring after correcting us on the fact it wasn't getting polished. Then I tried to ask a few basic questions about another piece and she kind of refused to give me any specifics about size and price. I tried asking 5 different ways how I could gauge price and clarity of diamonds and she just fumbled around and said someone else might be able to tell us. Almost forgot, I asked her to check the size of a ring and even that wasn't easy. Not sure I trust her measurement. She managed to make a complicated process even more confusing. I won't be back!!!

Recently, we decided to upgrade to a larger stone and revisited DeScenza. The color of my diamond was classififed as an E on my original appraisal. When I took the same diamond back to them without bringing the appraisal and asked them to appraise it for trade in value, they classified the color as G. What a joke. We visited a gemologist who actually classified it as an I. Feels like fraud to me. Buyer beware. I would also recommend if you're in the market for a diamond to buy one from a jeweler who will provide you a GIA appraisal so you don't get screwed like I did by DeScenza. Updated to respond to the business's comment below. We had the diamond taken out of the setting at a legitimate gemologist who provides GIA certified appraisals. The stone when taken out of the setting is 100% an I classification in color according to the experts. When we purchased the diamond 10 years ago the appraisal was done with the diamond not in the setting and it was classified as an E in color by DeScenza. The comment from the business is irrelevant regarding they couldn't properly appraise it while still in the setting at the recent visit. I had it taken out of the setting and it is an I rating not an E. This is not a slight variation to go from an E rating to an I. So either they need to hire new appraisers or they are KNOWINGLY upscaling appraisals to charge more money for stones that ARE NOT of the quality they are stating. I'm writing this to warn others and for no other purpose. I just traded in my DeScenza diamond at a legit business that provides GIA certified appraisals and now have the diamond of my dreams. Please do yourself a favor and find a jeweler that will provide you with a GIA certified appraisal so you don't get hoodwinked.
