My point is: I've seen this place upgrade & change so much--from a white shed, single serving window, and maybe a bench or two (2)--to what it is now. There isn't much to say: it's your typical snow cone place with chips & cheese, and some options of ice cream for the kiddos (who am I kidding, this is mostly for kiddos). I do prefer this place more or less for their add-ins--it tastes better from here for some nostalgic reason. They also have fruit cups, nachos, hot dogs, limonadas, and a variety of shaved ice flavors. $10 funnel cakes in plain, strawberry, Oreo, or half and half. They were very friendly and got our order out to us quickly. Outdoor seating is aplenty, both in the sun and in the shade. The breeze in the shade was nice. Now that I live in Austin I cannot wait to go back home (San Antonio) to not only visit and see my parents but go to Gorilla Shaved Ice. This place is amazing! Here's the thing though - you need to know what to order before you get there otherwise you can spend 20-30 minutes just reading all of the signs, specials,and flavors they have here. Luckily for you - I am going to give you a run down on what things mean for those who are not savvy enough or ever had any of the items below. Chango - a change is a "sour" snow cone made with shaved ice, pickle juice, chamoy, and Lucas (red chili powder with salt). Sometimes green apple is added depending on where you go. PickleDilly- a basic snow cone with shaved ice with a chopped dill pickle in the middle of the snowcone with Lucas on top (red chili powder and salt) and sometimes served with Chamoy. You can add any snowcone flavor you would like but I recommend Cherry. Bloody Gummy Bears - gummy bears with chamoy and chili that is usually added to your snowcone or mangonada. Mangonada - mangos sliced and served with chamoy on top and Lucas Now that you have the lingo down go for it! Try it ALL! You will not be disappointed. Oh, and don't forget to take your picture with the Gorilla and the King Kong size snowcone! Aye! SO SESSSSY! If you tag them on Instagram or FB and you're lucky the owner will choose you to get a gift certificate for your next visit. Parking never an issue but be sure to get in line as soon as you arrive. What a disappointed the Goliad location was this past Saturday Aug 3rd. Disappointed with lack of customer service AND product. The 2 Gorilla girls behind the counter lacked minimal common sense to allow my 3 year old daughter to use the "their" bathroom...they had to call their manager and ask. One of the girls proceeded to say they had a portable bathroom but a customer had knocked it over WEEKS ago??? The Gorilla girl still didn't allow my 3 year old in. Disappointed with a poor product. After i asked for my money back, by a snowball miracle, my less than full 8 cups of shaved ice were "ready". The syrup lacked taste almost as if diluted and the "shaved ice" had more of a texture of small raspa ice, NOT impressed. Gorilla was a complete waste of time and money. WIZARDS on the corner of Hillcrest and Babcock has set the standard so high that Gorilla can't reach in product and customer service. What I liked most about this spot was that it had a main trailer with plenty of room to sit in tables under tents and benches along the fence with a very spacious grassy area for kids to let out their sugar high. There was also a small truck close by to catch overflow customers. The main front had 3 windows to order from and plenty menus that were straightforward by flavors, sizes and add-ons. I got the Mangodilly and my bf got the Cucumberdilly. They were very filling and super sweet as it should be. $9 for both. No bad!! read more

We came to this place late Saturday night. We were craving raspas, and this place was the only one open at about 9/10pm. The parking situation is kind of weird, you're basically parking on the grass part of a highway. I'm not sure how to explain it. They take cash only, but there's an atm right next to the line. The prices are not too bad. 2.75 for a Large raspa. The mangonadas were so good! It was full of chamoy and lucas, just the way I like them. There was a good sitting space and even had some picnic tables inside an enclosed area. During the night time, they probably should add a bit more lighting though. After doing some looking around on Yelp, I decided to give this place a try. Unfortunately, I think I came during peak hours (showed up around 7:50pm, leaving at 8:50pm) This place seems to be a neighborhood favorite, so I'm sure it has more peaks during the day. Top 20 flavors are listed when you get in as well as their specialties and prices. Parking is small but a lot of people use the skate land parking on the other side of the fence. I tried tigers blood & my brother had a Piccadilly. His was better than a lot of other places that I've tried in town and will come here again to get my own :) Girls taking orders and making treats had smiles the whole time and call you when your order is ready. I would have to say that Gorilla has a better mangonada than Wizard up the street. I'd even go as far to say as they're one of the best. I still have to try the mangonadas from Big Daddy's, Snowcone Addiction and many other shaved ice places in town before making a final judgement though. As far as the piccadilly I give Gorilla's mad props. You have an entire smorgasboard of flavor selections to choose from. Others won't give you many choices. I ordered grape instead of cherry but it had a lot of pickles in it but little shaved ice. I guess some of the shaved ice had already melted. So I wouldn't recommend getting the piccadilly unless you don't mind a lot of pickles and little shaved ice in it. Now if you like pickle juice instead of pickles mixed with with chamoy and chili powder then get their chango. I took a few bites when I ordered a chango but didn't like it so I threw it in the garbage. Sour mixed with spicy just don't cut it with me. Gorilla's prices are cheap and there's 3 windows to order from. There are no crowds or long lines and the girls are friendly and won't try to upsell you anything. My family and I have been here several times. I would say about 5 of the times we went we tried to order the candy apples and we were always told they don't have any. Even right after they advertise it on facebook. So why advertise when you don't have any? Or make enough to meet demands if your employees say "they run out quick". So they advertise on Facebook and my husband comments saying every time we go they don't have any, another lady said the same thing. They blocked my husband, which is ridiculous because a good business keeps all comments and good or bad reviews. This was my first time ever going to Gorilla shaved ice & I really wanted to like this place. I went to this place with high expectations based off all the great reviews. I took my 4 kids & sister for a late night (9:30) treat. The atmosphere is nice & clean. They have several benches & picnic tables to sit at. For a Saturday I was impressed with the lines, they weren't long. The employee that took our order was nice, but had poor eye contact & kinda rushed us. I ordered 5 small raspas & a Piccadilly, which came out to about $10. The price was very fair considering what we bought. Now my problem came with the actual raspas, they tasted horrible. The ice had a really weird taste that I can't explain. Sadly, no one was able to finish their raspas. My sister didn't even like her Piccadilly. We all ended up throwing it away. This was my first and last time coming here. I definitely wouldn't recommend coming here. read more
